Kunika Lal
Actress-activist Kunika Lal enters late night Star Plus thriller K Street Pali Hill, to play the character of the conniving Ketaki. Sunday was day one of her shoot for the Balaji serial.

"It is a homecoming of sorts, as I was part of the Balaji show Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii a while back," she says. "My character of Ketaki is sensuous and voluptuous; she is an extremely sexy woman who is attired in chic, Western wear."

It is learnt that Ketaki has been introduced to provide a jolt to the daily's main troublemaker, Gayatri Kaul. GK's sharp tongue and shady dealings put K Street Pali Hill in a tizzy.

"All this while, GK called the shots in the Kaul business and household; now she has someone putting a spanner in her works. Ketaki takes on GK, who is left shell-shocked," says creative director Sandiip Sickand of the new entry on the show.

In an interesting twist, Ketaki will later turn out to be Bikram's (Vikram Kapadia) flame, causing uproar in the household. Kunika was earlier seen as Sasha's (Chetan Hansraj) mother Garima in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, before she disappeared from the track.

"I want to get back to acting now, post my personal trauma (she is divorcing husband Vinay Lal); there are also some film offers on hand," she adds when asked about her current assignments.

Kunika's other side

"I have divided my life in such a manner that for 15 days I work to pay my bills, while the rest I devote to the causes I care about," says Kunika. Her latest cause is the battle for a playground in an area taken over by MHADA, on the Lokhandwala back road. "We owe this to our children," says the actress.

Kunika is part of the National Corporation of Political Reforms (NCPR), which aims to cleanse politics and make life easier for the common man. She is also involved with AIDS awareness campaigns and the Children in Pain (CHIP) organisation.
