As for the second part, if this maxim were to be implemented, a good percentage of marriages the world over would end up as 'immoral'. Trust, caring and mutual respect are be far more important in a marriage than romantic love, which is any case an overrated sentiment which often does not last. Otherwise the divorce rate in the West would not be so high.

Love is moral without legal marriage, but marriage is IMMORAL with out love...👏

Some say that love is over rated in a relationship but I feel that marriage itself is highly over rated. But I certainly feel that only a few lucky ones find their "soulmate" and married or not, being with that person gives one ultimate fulfillment.

I just fine some fans are over sensitive and they get too emotional that they cant be objective... That is for immature people not knowing how to be diplomatic and respecting everyones opinion regardelss if it is for or against a ccast..I love purvi/arjun pair but im not offended by the author of the post actually I admire the person's courage and honesty...Kudos to u... D rest who are offended needs to check urselves..

Anyway Arjun never tell Ovi to sacrifice anything, the bimbo just decided she going to give up modelling to be with Arjun...so we cant blame arjun for that..If dummie Ovi wanted to throw away her career for a man who only considered her a friend and never showed an once of actual love for her the whose fault is that??? Only that Ovi fault...ewww how i dislike OVI
Arjun shouldnt insult her he should box her square in the face and knock some sens into her and the sick obssession out...

Dear dolce,

As for the portion in bold, I agree completely with you. This is what the French call le grand amour, a magnificent obsession between two persons who are part of a whole. It is, by its very nature, quite rare, and I can think of examples readily only from literature - Lara and Zhivago, Laila and Majnu, to start with - and somehow these seem to mostly end in tragedy.

The problem is that with so much middle level or corny romantic novels floating around, not to speak of Yash Chopra films, people, especially young girls, are being conditioned to believe that romantic love is a given, and you just have to wait till Mr. Right turns up. So they meet someone halfway pleasing, decide that he is Mr.Right, and they either have an affair with him or marry him. When Mr.Right is revealed to be, if not Mr.Wrong, at least Mr. Average, disillusionment sets in, and it ends in a painful break up or a divorce, often within 6 months of the marriage.

They do not have the patience to build up a relationship, and caring and respect count for nothing in the face of expensive gifts (at the courting stage) and partying with the boyfriend.

Moreover, with so many young people financially and socially independent, the wise counsel and moderating effect of parents is missing. Even in PR, see the mess Arjun, Purvi and Ovi have created just because they did NOT consult their parents!

As for "married or not, being with that person gives one ultimate fulfillment", I would add a rider. In the long run, flying in the face of society does not work, especially for the women. The men get off more lightly, partly because any society is always far more lenient to men.

One classic example of the above was Anna Karenina. Even in real life, such a feminist and superb artist like Smita Patil, when she got into an affair with the married Raj Babbar, was not content with living with him without marriage. She wanted the social cachet of matrimony, or being invited for haldi kumkum by her neighbours!

Even if such problems are not there, in the long run, this 'immortal love' at times becomes an exploitative relationship, where it is often the woman who struggles to keep her end up and at times to hold the man as well. One of the most striking examples of this was the relationship between the great writer Jean-Paul Sartre, and the equally famous if not equally rated feminist writer Simone de Beauvoir. It enslaved her and chained her for life to a selfish man who used her and used her..

So you see, my dear, there are no pat solutions, and while I agree that marriage is overrated, women have always known that. The truth, however is that, marriage is like democracy - it is the best of a bad lot!

Nothing of the above applies to those who are perfectly satisfied being single, absorbed by a professional or artistic passion that takes over all their mind and soul, like great singers or dancers. They are sufficient unto themselves, and truly blessed!
