CONCERN:
chotiMaa -an aptly named character. She is definitely the "Meanoo" of the Shekhar parivaar. But, like it or lump it she has a valid point and perspective. She wants the best for Shiv - a mate who loves and appreciates him. Didn't we ourselves crib about Anandi's seemingly thoughtless proposal to Shiv? Her inability to accept him "dil se" as he hoped? chotMaa's CONCERN for Shiv as such is understandable. (It maybe, however, be a little overprotective - he's a mature man with a clear perspective not a lovestruck teenager though he does moon over his Ajee and her pics/video like one!). Still she is a mother even if a "small" one entitled to protect her ladlaa from emotional hurt that she believes he is hurtling toward. As such, I don't begrudge her proactive approach and questioning of Anandi directly. My issue is with her Execution and her Comparative (herself).
CRUELTY:
While I understood her justifiable concern over Shiv. I detest her means - she clearly knew what she was doing was wrong - otherwise she would have done it khule aam not behind her laadla's back. Moreover, I don't appreciate her "insensitivity"... the question needed asking, but what need was there for accusing Anandi? If she is near as sensitive and astute as she thinks she is then she should have realized from Anandi's demeanor and mood:
1) She did not know about Jugdeesh's arrival in Jaitsar and/or
2) Jugdeesh's return to Jaitsar had no impact on Anandi;
Beyond her accusation/disbelief that Anandi did not know is her implication that Anandi will ruin Shiv's life with her memories of the past especially after Anandi's answer that Shiv is her present and future. Again it was an attack on Anandi's integrity without knowing her. Also, utter thoughtless immaturity. Anandi grew up in Jaitsar...is there a place anywhere in Jaitsar that does not hold memories for Anandi? Her in-laws whom she lives with are Jagya's family...yet Anandi flourishes and is cherished by one and all in Jaitsar. So, she has obviously managed a way to cope with her memories of Jugya, which theoretically inundate her everywhere in Jaitsar including her very home. So, why can she not continue to do so post marriage to Shiv? chotiMaa is sensitive and introspective, but not sufficiently so. Because her MIND is CLOSED and her big city perspective sadly limited by her own widowed circumstance.
CLOSED MIND:
chotiMaa could not move on with her own life because she could not give her husband's place to another. But, she is not every woman. As Shiv succinctly noted Anandi is not stuck in her past...if she was then she would never have accomplished as much as she has. The past does trip her up, but when it does Anandi gets up and continues on. She is not sitting in kotri crying her heart out over jogiya, she is the Sarpanch of Jaitsar...teaching children and taking care of an entire village. She turned her pain into Prerna. Instead of admiring the strength and courage that Anandi has, chotiMaa sees her own limitations her own yaadeiin.
Her family (Ira and Shiv) have obviously failed to make her open her narrow perspective just as her sasuralwale failed to convince her to remarry... let's hope Anandi through her actions enlightens and opens her closed mind. Because for now, despite her "progressive" attire, she is more backward then jaitsarwasis - who have embraced & blessed AnSh's union as they did Asha's remarriage, and accepted Sugna's.
I look forward to her enlightenment and reform as she interacts with Anandi more and meets some of the widows of Jaitsar: Sugna, Phooli, and Asha. One cannot control memories, but that does not mean one lives in the past.
Thank you CVs for complex multi-layered characters...especially ones that make you pause and think. Its easy to do black and white, but gray is hard to portray. Yet, you make it seem easy.
