Ajay assures to remove objectionable contents from 'Son of Sardar'
The understanding on the issue was brokered by Punjab Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia, who was present in the meeting with a five member committee of SGPC and complainant Karnail Singh Peermohamad in a local hotel.
Stating that he discussed the issue in detail with Majithia, Devgan announced that at first place there was no intention at all to ridicule Punjabi or Sikh community and rather Sardar was hero of the film and it showed the Punjabis in good light. "When film is focussing on Punjabis and Sikhs how can I hurt their sentiments," he held.
"I have cleared the objections and explained everything about the film and the context of the portions about which there were objections. We shall remove the portions which needed to be removed to clear the objections," he said.
He held that from the promos the points on which objections were raised would be completely removed which would be released later but about the promos already released on Youtube he had no control.
Bollywood actor, who was also accompanied by a few of his crew members, said that he himself is a Punjabi and if anything in the film would hurt the community then he would be hurting his own family.
Devgan said that he was very conscious about that nothing wrong should be showed in the film and even engaged a person from Punjab to tie the turbans. "In Bollywood films the turbans don't reflect the original style. We flew the turban expert from here over 20 times for the job so that the turbans of characters should have a true style," he said. 👏
Majithia eulogized Devgan for showing great sensitivity and coming all the way from Hyderabad to Amritsar to address the issue. "Now all the objections have been addressed and Devgan deserves all praise for that. I am sure it will be a good movie which every Punjabi would watch," he said.
Complainant Peermohammad said that he was satisfied with Devgan's explanations and assurance to remove or amend the objectionable portions. However he held that he would report to the Akal Takht Jathedar and final decision would be taken by the Jathedar.
SGPC appointed committee did not attend the press conference which was addressed by Majithia and Devgan even as the minister spoke very high about Devgan and his film. Speaking separately to the media SGPC member Rajinder Singh Mehta, in the presence of other members of the committee, said that they had been assured by Devgan to remove the objections and he had been asked to send a copy of the film to SGPC before releasing the film.
