Out of three finalists, two come from this wonderful city, that is Vipul and Amit.
The holy city of Amritsar has great importance in Indian history. Who can forget the massacre of innocent people at Jallian Wala Bagh on April 13, 1919 by General Dyar.
This city has given us very talented and world class artists. Mohamed Rafi Sahab also comes from a small villege near Amritsar. Great sinegr Who sang mere desh ki dhart soona uglee, uglee here moti - Mr. Mehindera Kapoor sahab was also born in Amritsar. Rajeash Khanna, Jeetinder, Aksey Kumar, Vinod Mehra, Dara Singh and Geeta Bali were born in Amritsar.
Here is how the city of Amritsar was founded:
In the year 1569 the King Akbar came to Punjab to see Guru Amardass ji in the city of Goindwal near Tarantaran. It is written that Akbar along with Raja of Haripur walked few hunderd yards to goindwal, leaving his horse behind. He was very impressed to see guru ka Langer (free food) which was open to poor people and travellers day and night. He asked guru ji how the langer is run day and night for common people? Guru ji said that the money comes from common devoties and members of Sikh religion. King Akbar offerd a few acres land for guru ka langer. Guru Amardass ji refused to accept the land. But King insisted then Guru ji suggested that if he reallly wanted to do something for his people then King must stop the travellers Tax calle Jazzia( Hindu pilgrims were charged this Tax to visit their holy places, just to discourage them so that they would adopt Islam) and ban the tradition of Sati ( newly widowed burning herself on their husbands funeral pyre) Akbar agreed and banned those two practices. But before he left he donated land of Jhabaal region (now Amritsar) to his elder daughter Bibi Bhani ji. Later the fourth Guru Ramdass ji who got married to Bibi Bhani ji bought adjacent land for 700 rupees from the governor of Lahor. Guru Ramdass ji is the one who developed the city of Amritsar bringing in the technicians, buliders and business people from Rajastan, UP and MP. He aslo constructed the holy tank or sarover called ramdass sarover. Later his son and fifth guru Arjun Dev ji got the Golden temple constructed inside this holy sarover. This area used to have jungel of Ber trees or Indian berry trees. We still have at least 3 very old Ber trees in Golden temple complex which are said to be more than 1000 years old.
Bibi bhani ji happened to be mother of 5th guru Arjan dev ji, Grand mother of sixth Guru har Gobind ji and great grand mother of ninth Guru Teg Bahadur ji and great great grand mother of sahib shri Guru Gobibnd singh ji.
Lots of people may be wondering that Sikh gurus had their preaching and teaching area in Punjab then how come 10th Guru Gobind Singh ji was bron in Patna Bihar? To make the long story short, when Teg Bahadur ji was kept in prison in Delhi by King Aurangzeb for the changes of Anti Islamic preachings and teachings, the king of Jaipur raja Ram Sing bailed him out of prison on his guarantee saying that Guru ji is a preacher of one God just like Islam thus can not say anything agaist Muslim religion. On Raja ram Singh's advice Aurangzeb agreed to release Teg Bahuder ji. But unfortunately on August 19, 1666 king Ram Singh got in trouble. He was charged in helping the escape of King of Maharashtra Shivaji and his son Shambhu from the prison of Aurangzeb at the residence of King Ram Singh in Delhi. The emperor suspected that Shivaji had fled with the connivance of Raja Ram Singh.
Aurangzeb demoted King Ram Singh and seized his property and yearly pay and ordered him to lead an expedition for the conquest of Asam. This expedition was agaist raja Sug Deo Chakradwaja of Asam/Bangal. Aurangzeb wanted ram Singh to die of Malaria as his previous Warrior Mir Jumla died on march 31, 1663.
King Ram Sing knew that Guru Teg Bahuder ji was a religios personality who had some followers in Asam and Bangal. Thus he requested him to give him company and act as a mediator between him and Raja Chakradwaj. Guru ji agreed and met him in Patna, Bihar with his family and few followers/sewaks. But mata Gujri ji was expecting a baby and could not travel any further. Guru ji left her in Patna along with his best man and sewaks Diyal Dass, kirpal chand and gurdita ji. It was that time when two famous land loards of Patna Karim Bakesh and Rahim Bakesh
donated one garden and land of one villege to Guru Teg Bahur ji. Guru Gobind Singh ji was born on the same land on 22 December 1666 when his father was in bangal with Raja Ram Singh. With Guru ji's efforts the war was avoided and an agreement was signed between the two kings. Guruji spent 3 years in bangal with Ram Singh in Kamroop.

Beautiful Post👏
I am proud to be a Sikh and a Punjabi. Before anything else, I am these two things. There is no doubt about that.
Amritsar is indeed holy, but I feel the whole Punjab region (Pakistan Punjab, India Punjab(Punjab,Haryana & Himachal Pradesh)) is Holy and indeed blessed
Punjab is beautiful and may Waheguruji bless it every moment

Tx P Bassi ji for your encoraging words. I believe the entire land of Indian Sub-continent is holy. Its a land of Lord Rama, Krishna, Budha, Ganesha, Guru Nanak, Muyudin Chisti, Hazret Nizzamudin, Baba Bulle Shah, Netaji Bose, Bhagat Singh and Udham Singh For us punjabis, the land of Punjab eastern or western (Pakistan) has tremandous importance. Of course Guru Nanak Dev ji's birth place is in Nankana sahab, Pakistan.
Last time when I visited Golden temple it was Aarti time and they were singing Gurunanak sahab's famous composition in Raag Dhanashri, "Gagan mai thaal ravi chander deepak banee, tareka mandal janak moti." composed at Jagan nath puri in Orrisa. The atmosphere was so devine peaceful that tears started flowing from my eyes.
Later when we all 8 people came out of the temple and claimed our shoes from volunteers who had put them in a synthetic bag all together. I complaint to my Paaji, Ranjinder Singh (from Agra), and said, "Look paaji what they have done! They have ruined my new shoes." Paaji replied, " Jas you are lucky that they put your shoes with ours in this bag. Do you know how many times this bag has been re- used? Millions of people bring holy dust from all over the world and you will take this holy dust back to Canada in your home. I realized that I had made a wrong comment. Immidiately I appolozised to him. When I came back home, I made sure that I walk to each and every room of all three floors of our house. I stll love those lucky shoes of mine.

Jas, i love this post, it just touched my heart. I am not a Sikh but but i have the utmost respect for the faith and its teachings. Thanks for your post on Amritsar, i would love to visit Amritsar some day. I feel the more that the people of faith, all faiths, come together and share as you have done, we will be taking a few more steps closer to world harmony. Whether you pray in a Gurdwara, Mandir, Masjid, Church or Synagogue, or anywhere else, understanding the faiths and beliefs of your friends and neighbors, and appreciating worship of divinity in all its forms is what life is really about for me. Keep up the great work. 😊
