Chapter 3

Teddy Bears

"Hmmm…did you notice something fishy between our siblings today" Geet raised an eyebrow at Maan, wanting his opinion. They were lying down on the carpet with chips and chocolate between them. "It was very…interesting"

"I did" Maan nodded with a frown, "You don't think there is something between them?"

They shared a horrified glance as they considered Rahul and Naina together. Geet shuddered, "Please no! Can you imagine them together? They would be one of those sickly happy couples and they would try to stop our fight!" She conveniently ignored the fact that there really wasn't a fight.

Maan laughed, "But at least it would make the mothers happy. They would be ecstatic"

"Geet!" Naina's voice from outside surprised them both, "Open the door!"

"Get under the covers" Geet whispered to Maan, who then jumped into the bed and hid under the covers. Geet smirked as she saw the lump on the bed but then quickly went to open the door.

"Hi sis" she stood in front of the door, trying to stop Naina from getting in.

"Took you long enough" Naina retorted but frowned as she saw the big lump on the bed, "What's that on the bed?"

"My teddy bear" Geet spoke without thinking, not thinking of any other excuse.

"Teddy bear?" Naina looked sceptical, "Really?"

"Yeah, my cuddly bear" Geet made innocent eyes.

"You sleep with a bear?" Naina frowned. "You didn't sleep with bears when you were a little kid. In fact you dissected and destroyed the only teddy you had. I distinctly remember you telling me that you thought it was stupid because bears were dangerous creatures"

"I was young and nave" Geet tried to make sense but failed colossally, "Now I know better"

"You know better now? That teddies are good?" This time Naina knew something was wrong, "Bullshit Geet! I know you and no way is that true"

"Let me have a look at your teddy bear" Naina cajoled.

"No, I am quite possessive about my teddy, its only mine" Geet rolled her eyes and walked towards her bed. She then proceeded to jump on the lump (ie Maan) who then grunted.

"Did someone make a sound?" Naina frowned.

"What sound? Di you are going insane." She laughed as she squeezed the lump. "See it is my cuddly bear!"

"Fine" Naina shook her head at her sister's weird behaviour but then again Geet had always been slightly crazy. "I came in to say that we are going out for dinner with Khurana's. You can go back to your cuddly bear...or what ever it is"

"Sure" Geet responded quickly, so that Naina would leave the room.

Once the door was closed, Maan jumped out from the covers. "What one earth was that about!" He half yelled, "You nearly killed me!"

Geet rolled her eyes, "Big deal, buster. Toughen up!"

"Big deal? Maan grimaced, "You aren't a light feather, you weigh a ton and nearly squished me to death!"

"I don't weight a ton!" Geet got angry at his comment and took her pillow to hit him with it but Maan plucked it away in a second and then lifted her up to hold her upside down.

"Let me go!" Geet yelled as she swung in his hands.

"Fine" Maan laughed and then unceremoniously dropped her flat on the floor.

"Oh you'll pay for that!" Geet promised and then ran towards him to tickle him. Within moments both of them were cracking up laughing.

"I am your cuddly bear" Maan smirked as he ruffled Geet's hair, "Such love! Come on, give me a cuddle!"

"Pfft…more like stinky bear" Geet sniggered and fell over laughing.

The next day, Geet went about her usual routine; breakfast, drive and then locker. As she was unpacking her things into her locker, someone coughed behind her.

Turning around, she rolled her eyes at the sight that met her eyes, it was the Maan fan club.

The club consisted of three girls, who were all beautiful and hopelessly dumb. They were all ardently in love with Maan and had been since the first day of their high school. Even their names matched; Lia, Tia and Ria.

"If it isn't bimbo parade" Geet muttered darkly but spoke to them in a more neutral tone, "Hi girls. Need any help?"

"We, like, want you to do favour for us" Lia spoke in her high pitch tone, "Like, leave Maan alone for a while, so he can like have some peace." Geet rolled her eyes and wondered how many times one person could say "like".

"He is looking a bit stressed, so we want him to relax" Tia spoke sincerely, showing her fanatic craze for Maan.

"Oh bother" Geet mumbled, "Why do you three fawn over him so much?"

"Because he is so handsome...and charming" Ria sighed with joy, "He is like perfect!"

"Girls why don't you use all this energy on something more worthwhile, than that useless boy. Save the trees or adopt a kid but get an actual hobby!" Geet retorted, amused despite herself.

"Trying to join my Fan Club" Maan's amused voice spoke from behind her, causing her to shake her head. "Finally succumbing to my charms...but then again you aren't attractive enough to join"

Maan didn't really care about his fan club, in fact he found them a bit annoying but as a teenage boy he wasn't going to complain about having beautiful girls swoon over him.

The three girls sighed together, mesmerised at the sight of their favourite person, while Geet snorted.

"Oh yeah, I wouldn't fit in" Geet pretended to be sincere, "After all I do have a brain….which clearly none of your fans have and that makes sense, considering you are brainless yourself"

The three silly girls didn't even realise they were being insulted as they were so engrossed in looking at Maan.

Maan on the other hand was very amused by her comment but as always had to make fun of her in return, "Well, seems like someone is a bit envious. Don't worry, you can always have plastic surgery" He gave a small wink at Geet, whose eyes were twinkling with amusement but pretended to be insulted.

With that he left her and had the trio following after him.

The boy's locker room after soccer practise was always crowded and filled with the disgusting aroma of sweat as well as dirt.

But it was also the place for bonding. As a team, it was essential to bond with your team mates and as the team captain, Maan had to make sure that this happened. In particular he had to help the new recruits fit in and be part of the team.

Nick was one of the new transfers and Maan had made sure that everyone was speaking to him. He showed him around and also made sure that he was comfortable others.

But Nick ruined all goodwill when he made the mistake of saying, "By the way, that girl Geet is one hot babe. Absolutely stunning! Is she dating anyone?"

His question effectively caught everyone's attention. All the other boys stayed silent because they all knew about Maan's enmity with Geet. Over the last few years no one had dated Geet and Maan had made sure that everyone knew about this.

Maan just turned to Nick and said, "No one dates Geet"

"What do you mean?" Nick was obviously confused. "Why doesn't anyone date her?"

"She is out of bounds" was Maan's simple answer, not wanting to expand on any reason. But most people assumed it was because of the fact he "hated" Geet and didn't want anyone on his team to date Geet.

"Ummm….she doesn't date" Vicky stepped in and tried to explain, "She isn't interested in dating in high school. Everyone knows that because a lot of guys tried asking her out"

It was the truth but the truth was that Maan didn't want Geet to date anyone. He knew that it was selfish and hypocritical, especially considering all the girls after him, but he wasn't willing to share his best friend with anyone.

So he had always discouraged others from liking Geet or dating her. It was done under the guise of their quarrel, so everyone willingly accepted it

"Guys, its time for the dance competition" Maan reminded everyone, effectively changing the topic.

As always for any competition, there was a large crowd of students in the field, including all of the senior students.

The dance competition had received a lot of publicity amongst the students, so everyone was eager to participate or observe. Tensions were particularly high because of the close score between the houses.

And as always, the competition began with words between the duo.

"Handa prepare to lose" Maan taunted.

"Oh yeah, cause I am not winning the house competition" Geet pretended to be concerned then smirked, "Wait a second, I am! So I guess you should be the one getting ready to lose"
