Rajaji's marvelous work is particular favorite of mine, too. I would also recommend you check out the book 'Jaya' by Dr Devdutt Pattanaik, which explores some of the lesser known tales in the epic.

Any modern serial or novel can only aspire to emulate part of the epic's grandeur. To start off I just wish the makers of IPKKND could do justice to the interesting characters they have created! You are right, they have reduced Khushi's character to an absolute caricature now, similarly to what they have done to Anjali's portrayal. Similarly Arnav is sometimes reduced to being a one dimensional, delusional jerk!

Lets hope the plot and characterization improve!!

I shall certainly read 'Jaya'...shall order it on Amazon straight away!

The makers of IPK, of their own admission have no such lofty ambitions! They strive neither towards literary and artistic merit and success, nor to explore and leave a lasting impression on social, cultural and moral values...They seem to be happy with mediocrity going on absurdity in the name of entertainment..

Lets hope for a miracle!

And as of today, Khushi has another excuse for self sacrifice, another soul to placate, God somebody really hates her!

This is what happens when I don't check my PMs on time...I'm here 11 pages in! Loved your post RamnVij and you have created a great discussion.

Will we respect Khushi more, or less, if she stands up for her rights and insists on a course of action which makes her happy? Is it wrong to think of your own happiness at least some of the time?

I think we ALL would respect Khushi more if she did something that made her happy for a change...that showed she still had respect for herself as a person, The show would be far more enjoyable and real if they showed her thinking of her own happiness for some time.

I'm waiting for that day...I don't think it will ever come. I think this show started losing its touch the day it got confused about Khushi's character and started showing inconsistencies in her. Forget the inane comedy they made her do for months. Its much worse now...I just can't see her as a doormat who will let others treat her like crap...be it Anjali, Nani, Dadi, Akash, Mami or whoever has a problem with her these days. The old Khushi would find a way to shut them up without being rude. Now, she just continues to get humiliated without speaking up or showing any respect for herself.

I'm probably the only one but I'd be more excited if she stood up for HERSELF in front of Dadi, instead of Arnav standing up for her. Anyways. The show is very ordinary right now, it feels like a typical cliched Star Plus drama. I don't see the ratings rising until they fix Khushi.

My like button is broken hence writing to thank u for such an informative n insightful post! completely agree...that giving too much of urself all the time...even without being asked to do so...is often useless n goes against the person sacrificing. The consequences though not apparent initially can be quite devastating. But human nature is such that when one hears such incidents, you tend to glorify them. Worse still, if u receive the benefits of someone else's sacrifices all the time, u tend to take the other person for granted. Khushi is already in the doormat category...n she is not opening her eyes or learning from mistakes. sad...
