Gender Bias

My dear friends, I do not wish to bore you with my rant. But I guess this thought has been haunting me for a while now. Being a woman, I feel more strongly about it. Do tell me how you guys feel. Lets us not make this into a bashing session. This is a universal problem and I guess many of us may have faced it somewhere or the other in our lives.

Case Study One: Mohammed Nazim :

1) Doing a Punjabi movie.

Gets time off for shooting and openly talk about it. SP, PH have no problem with his image in the Punjabi movie.

2) Obscene photo's get released

What happens - nothing. He continues to be part of the great serial.

His image is not affected at all. Punjabi movie nor obscene photos make a difference to his image.

Case Study two: Barun Sobti:

1) Doing a movie (Not sure bollywood or whatever)

Goes away from shooting for more than a month. What is done, the track is adjusted to accommodate his shooting schedule.

Case Study three : Giaa Manek

1) Is caught in Hookah incident:

Neither the PH nor SP stood by her. No formal statement by either of them supporting their actress.

2) Wants to do a reality show:

Gets replaced on the pretext of being unprofessional. In the 2.5 years we have never had reports saying that Giaa Manek was unprofessional, suddenly one fine day we hear of the actress being replaced on the pretext of un-professionalism.



SP talks about NAYI SOCH - but sorry to they are still have a long way to go before walking their talk. SP just do not talk but please walk your talk too.

Your male leads are given permission to do what they want and female leads are axed when they want to follow their dreams.

Ladies we face gender bias in all walks of our lives. Recognize it, only then we will be able to fight this daemon. Today it may have happened to Giaa Manek, but (GOD FORBID) you could be the next Giaa Manek in your job.

I do not want taunts and sarcasm, on this thread. Its a relevant topic both to SNS and our own lives. If you wish to be sarcastic, pls do not reply.

Great post anna.Not only tv this happens everyday as well. Just read an article where a really famous producer said the female lead has to look like the girl next door while the guy has to look handsome blah blah blah. Tv industry being dominated by women is a myth...i know loads of people who gave up watching ipk when barun was missing and they returned once he was back.. This world sadly till now is male dominated.

I am not trying to be sarcastic or not trying to bash anyone.. i would highlight the differences between three cases

Case 1: Mohd Nazim:

he is doing a punjabi movie.. not any TV reality show in a rival channel and his obscene photos .. i think no one would make a comment on those and highlight them.,. instead they would let them die their natural death .. people almost forgot ..


Case 2: Barun Sobti:

He was once again doing a movie and not a show on the rival channel...so they adjusted his dates and changed the script.. it solely depends on the relation between the PH and the actor ..there were many actors who did movies ..while acting in a serial.. Prerna.,.Parvati ,. they all acted in movies by still being the lead role in their shows..

Case 3:

well we have discussed this many many many times .. i have nothing to say here...

the only thing is each actor will be given a separate set of clauses in their contract . there will be a clause for bollywood movies.. a clause for regional movies and a clause for the actor's participation in a reality shows on the channels of the SAME consortium and also a clause for the actor's participation in a reality shows on the channels of the RIVAL consortium

Vibha this happens in our homes too. The male child is preferred over the female child. Baring a few countries in the world, this is a world wide phenomenon.

Gd analysis dear. N u r ryt... Barun s doin a bollywood movie... Ofcourse dis cn b considerd as gender discrimination. Wah kya naya soch laya he SP... Y only girls hv to mind der image?

what i dont get is rs is 2 faced she drops giaa because she going to a rival channel but from what i hear she has a show on colors how 2 faced is that ..but anyway they had to make someone a scapegoat

Munni, you have decided long ago that GIAA is wrong in this whole scenario and that is your opinion and I am not gonna change it.

I feel that this is Gender Bias and that is my opinion. Gender bias happens all the time, and this time it has happened to GIAA MANEK. Its easier to twist a female compared to a male due to various reason.. Also most views are females and if you replace a handsome male lead, the risk of loosing the female viewers is much higher. Replace a female lead and females will continue watching because that male actor is still around.

Dear RS is a great producer, GiAA is a mere actress. 😉 New to the industry, no godfathers etc...

may be more than Gender biased i would say it is MEDIUM biased😆 ..they are deciding on the medium in which the actor is taking part.. is it a movie or a reality show on a channel. there is a lot of difference between the two medium , movies and reality shows..

anyways.. no one can change other's views.. as views are conceived in our own brain 😊

I am sure if Nazim wanted to do a reality show on a rival channel, the situation would have been handled very differently. After all, we all know its A MAN's WORLD.
