I don't understand!?

Ok, so when Siddhuji came, he said that Nimmo and Kunu's marriage certificate is gone so they need to sign a new one and it will take 6 months to get registered right?

So, why couldn't Nimmo and Kunu just say NO and say that they are not married anymore since there are no documents to say they are married and then Nimmo could just go to her house?!? Why didn't they do that?
