I enjoyed the debate too, Of course we will agree to disagree.

Just a small point, I do believe TJ fancied her, but there was never any respect or love if she had to be paid only for her services and he never supported his daughter. Even if he was a victim of his culture and a coward, there still was no excuse for him not to care how his daughter ate, for 8yrs. I believe that is why Gulabiya is so bitter, because she probably believed in him, but he let her down big time.

I really believe some women bring out the lust in some men more than others, just like the other Thakurs wanted Sugni, but they never seemed to be in love with her. Lusting is a powerful thing, and men can do that to the point of seeming to be in love. Then again, maybe I am talking about Western men 😆Just my POV.

No I agree, I think men lusting for women happens everywhere in the world…what I mean was I wasn't sure if Indian men can be that forward with their lust – I feel they could probably hide it under love – if you know what I mean…

I believe you that is why I said maybe it is western men I am thinking about, their lust is straight in your face. 😔 This feels like old times, I get to debate with you on a forum again.😃

Before starting off with my thoughts, I see some familiar faces here. Hi Hillydee and kalapi 😃 🤗

Now coming to the post, I think Gulabiya's problem is more that Sugni is being cheated than about her being the second wife. After all, she has always known that being a bedni is a very real possibility for Sugni though both Gulabiya and Sugni have tried their best to stop/delay it. Gulabiya went so far as to do a second sardhakayi herself so that she could provide for her family without involving Sugni into it. When they were both ready to leave town, TVS confessed his love for Sugni and implored her to stay. And though Gulabiya was naturally apprehensive about Vikram loving Sugni, she eased up once he promised to marry her and that he was not just fooling around. The initial hesitance was natural coz in the world she knew, thakurs did not accept people like her as wives even if they loved them. Right now, Gulabiya's stance is totally justified. TVS may love Sugni with all his heart and be able to stand up for her; but ultimately he is doing the same thing the other thakurs are doing. Bedding Sugni when she won't be getting the legal status of a wife. In fact, what he's doing is worse because Sugni trusts him to death and she will be crushed to know she ultimately became the second wife, even if he did it for her love. Atleast with the sardhakayi, if she agrees to do it, she goes with the knowledge of what she's getting into and what it entails and what she can expect.
Vikram is betraying Sugni in the worst way possible knowing how important this issue is to her. His excuse for not telling Sugni is weak, if not baseless. She knows he's always helped her; stood up for her when nobody else did. If he told her that he didn't know Reva was alive when he fell in love with her, but now that he knows she is, he will divorce her and then come for Sugni. She would respect him more. Even if she didn't and she wanted to break ties with him, what would she do? Nobody else is going to marry her and she won't go for the option of Sardhakayi. He could divorce Reva and then try and woo Sugni again. Whether gulabiya accepts that or not is a moot point.

Right now, Sugni doesn't know the whole truth, so she's not equipped to take the right decision. If TVS tells her everything and she still decides to go ahead with the marriage, Gulabiya should stay out of it irrespective of whether she likes it or not. But Sugni doesn't know the truth and gulabiya has every right to make sure her daughter isn't betrayed, whatever methods she has to employ. After all, she's severely outpowered by TVS and has absolutely nobody on her side - the only thing she has to convince Sugni of anything is her emotional bond with Sugni.

Hi Sowmya, nice meeting you in this forum🤗…I guess the interesting storyline of PSH has got us all out of hibernation😃….and you know me, always ready to play the devil's advocate at a drop of a hat…😆🤗

After all, she has always known that being a bedni is a very real possibility for Sugni though both Gulabiya and Sugni have tried their best to stop/delay it. I think it might be both, Sugni being the second wife and being cheated - of not knowing her actual status. Don't know what you think, women in some of these remote areas may not know about the legal aspects of divorce. I mean courts, lawyers, the judiciary system all are foreign and Greek to some people esp. in some remote areas. I mean thakurs do control their life to a huge extent. And being illiterate doesn't help either, so are easily manipulated. Even these days, there are villagers who mortgage their land to dishonest moneylenders to just keep exploiting them. Besides, Golu said something like – I know what is to be a second wife – in some sense they do some ritual with the man before starting their 'relationship'. She knows being a second is equivalent to nothing….

I keep wondering if Gulo knows about the divorce thingy, maybe Cvs are not clear themselves how they want to proceed, so leaving a loophole in the storyline.

I agree with the underlined. In our society a girl left stranded on their wedding day for whatever reason, is often considered unlucky (putting it mildly) and in all probability never finds a suitable groom…so that is a distinct possibility…

Right now, Sugni doesn't know the whole truth, so she's not equipped to take the right decision. If TVS tells her everything and she still decides to go ahead with the marriage, Gulabiya should stay out of it irrespective of whether she likes it or not. Absolutely right….

Loving the brilliant discussion going on in this thread, although I don't have time right now to read the last couple of pages. Just wanted to say that I feel Vikram is not completely wrong. He was forced to marry a woman of her sister's choice, why does he have to live with that woman all his life? He mentioned that Reva was mentally unstable from a long time, and it's a loveless relationship. It's unfair for him really, especially now when he truly loves Sugni and wishes to marry her! 😕

I like Adi with Amrita, although some of you here mentioned Amrita might have some secrets of her own. I think that's possible!

About Dhanumma - clearly she is hiding a lot from the family. She is so heartless that she doesn't care if Sugni dies right here right now, as long as her aim is achieved. She can do anything, maybe even harm her master Vikram Singh indirectly!
