Thief breaks into Amitabh's house, steals RS 8000!

A 20-year-old youth broke into actor Amitabh Bachchan's bungalow Jalsa in Juhu on Friday. While was escaping with the cash, the actor's domestic help caught him and the thief was handed over to the Juhu police.

The police said the accused has been identified as Deepak Kewat, who is from Madhya Pradesh and had come to Mumbai around a month ago.

Kewat climbed the Gulmohar tree adjacent to Jalsa, jumped on the rain shed and entered a top-floor bedroom through the balcony.

"Kewat found Rs8,000 in a drawer and pocketed it. When he was escaping, a domestic help saw him and raised an alarm. The security guard immediately nabbed Kewat," said a police officer of the Juhu police station.

The police are verifying Kewat's criminal records.

"Kewat has been arrested for house break-in, produced in the court and remanded in police custody for 14 days," said deputy commissioner of police, Pratap Dighavkar of (Zone IX).

"During interrogation, Kewat told us that he entered the house to see the Bachchan family," said Dighavkar.

Amitabh Bachchan wrote on his blog on Saturday: "Spent some anxious moments yesterday since we had a break in! The guy was caught and is with the police now under investigation. Seems like a professional, for he had entered the most sensitive area of the house, Jalsa. Cops and security are in over drive now. In the end nothing is secure, irrespective of how much precaution one takes".

Amitabh's two houses, Jalsa and Prateeksha, are a kilometre apart. Amitabh lives in Jalsa with wife Jaya, son Abhishek and daughter-in-law Aishwarya.
