Not Ash, I was the first choice to play Umrao Jaan: Kareena

When JP Dutta broke the news that he had signed Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan for Umrao Jaan, it became the talk of the town. Then when the 'Ash–Abhishek' special friendship grew stronger, everyone thought that Dutta was cashing in on Bollywood's most envied pair. But few know that Dutta had other plans to begin with. Abhishek was his first choice, alright; ever since he launched him in Refugee he's been one of Dutta's favourite boys. Dutta also has a softspot for Kareena Kapoor who started her career with his Refugee. Recently, when BT asked Kareena if she wanted to be a part of Dutta's Umrao Jaan, after a moment's hesitation, she replied, "If I may say so, I was offered Umrao Jaan, but I think there was some sort of miscommunication between JP uncle and me. I met him at a function in Amsterdam. I was a little tied up due to something, and by the time I could return JP uncle's call, he got a little irritated with me, and went ahead with someone else. So, it's okay, it happens." In showbiz you win some, you lose some. Who better than the modernday Desdemona to vouch for that!
