A Ray Of Hope

That one fateful night

Chapter 43

Anjali woke up first that morning. She got out of bed and moved out of Nani's room to go check on Shyam. She walked in to her room to see Shyam still sleeping like a baby. She walked round to him, sat down next to him and caressed his hair. He looks so peaceful while he's sleeping she thought. Last night's events started playing in her mind. She then thought about why Shyam didn't want to get the sleeping injection. It was only for his benefit she muttered to herself. As far as she knew he wasn't afraid of injections. She put the thought out of mind as she would talk to him later about him. She got up and headed towards the washroom to get ready. Once she was ready she headed out to go down to get ready for morning prayers.

She headed along the corridor and just happened to glance outside towards the pool. She had to do a double take when she thought she saw red petals. She peered closer and indeed she saw red rose petals everywhere. Her gaze following the path. She could only make out the petals up to the end of the back stairs. Wait those stairs lead to the back entrance towards the terrace her eyes opening wide as the thought entered her mind. Out of curiosity she headed up to the terrace.

As she got to the door she opened it to see the gazebo in the middle of the terrace. Her expression nothing less than being in shock. She walked towards the gazebo to see a red rose on the floor which she picked up only to notice a bag and something else splattered over the floor. She picked up the bag as well and placed them on the table. She moved towards whatever else was on the floor to notice it was a cake. As it was all over the terrace she couldn't tell who it was for. She turned around and looked inside the bag to find a jewellery box left open inside with nothing in it. As she searched further she found an envelope with Khushi's name on it. She recognised the handwriting straight away.

'Chote' she said out loud with a wide grin on her face. She slightly moved to see the arch of balloons still standing upright even though it had rained last night. Her mind working overtime knowing full well her brother was never a romantic man. You may be the number one businessman in India but you also are the number one most unromantic man as well she had said once to him. She knew all too well when this had happened and who has made him become like this. Khushi the person responsible for bringing her brother back from the darkness he use to surround himself in. She had to go tell nani.

Nani had gotten up to find no Anjali next to her. She got up to look around only for Anjali to head back to her room dressed and ready.

Nani: Anjali bitiya. Everything alright? I was worried when I didn't find you in here but why are smiling so much? Is damadji up and ok?

Anjali: No nani. He is still asleep. I am fine I had to go back to my room to change but nani I have to tell you something.

She explained everything about what she saw. On hearing this Nani was also grinning.

Nani: That means Arnav bitwa made an excuse to come back here to celebrate Khushi's birthday on his own with her without any of us. You know what that means. He was lying.

Anjali: I know Nani but in a way it was very sweet. He wanted to spend time with his wife. I have never known Chote to be like this or to do anything like this.

Nani: Anjali bitiya he didn't need to lie to any of us. He could have told us he wanted to spend time alone with Khushi bitiya and we would have left them alone just like we do when damadji wants to spend time with you.

Anjali blushed at this remembering the times that she actually was left alone with Shyam. Of course Shyam organising things most of the time.

Nani: Anjali bitiya I think we should punish Arnav bitwa for lying.

Anjali: Nani?

Nani then explained what she wanted them to do. As Anjali heard a playful smile came on her lips.

Anjali: That's brilliant Nani. That would teach him not to lie again.

Nani headed to get ready while Anjali left to go downstairs.

After the beautiful night Khushi had she really didn't want to wake up but as Arnav was stirring her eyes opened and she looked up at him. She couldn't fathom how and when her luck had changed to have such a husband. She lifted her hand and started tracing his jaw with her fingers. Arnav felt her fingers and couldn't help but smirked. He opened his eyes looked directly at her and before she could move he kissed her making her gasp in shock at his suddenness allowing his tongue to roam around her mouth eventually making her moan in his mouth. Arnav pulled back when they were both out of breath.

Arnav: Good morning Khushi.

Khushi: Good morning Arnavji.

Arnav: What the…? Khushi how many times…..

Khushi: Sorry. Sorry. Sorry. Good morning Arnav.

Arnav: That's better. Now don't you think we should get up or do you plan we stay in bed all day.

Khushi: But Arnav what would we do in bed all day. We both have to go to work.

Arnav smirking: Well I can think of a few things we could do in bed.

Arnav couldn't help but look at her with a twinkle in his eye. She saw this and blushed crimson. She was still in his tight grip which by now grew tighter as she struggled to get out. She wanted to get away while Arnav knew how innocent his wife was as she was still blushing avoiding looking up at him. He let her go after a while. She got up and ran into the washroom as she could feel her heart racing just hearing him say that. Imagines of the previous night flashing in her mind with a smile on her face. Arnav just put his hands under his head, staring up at the ceiling with a huge grin on his face.

As if suddenly last night's events came into his mind and he remembered Shyam. He sat bolt upright anger burning up inside him and his fists clenching up. He needed to do something about him now but he couldn't let anyone at home know what he was up to even Khushi because he knew if she found out the real reason behind their marriage she would be devastated. He got out of the bed and changed into his joggers and t-shirt. He picked up a notepad of the side table wrote something on it left it on the bed and left to go jogging. He would freshen up when he got back he thought. He needed to clear his mind and get rid of the unwanted temper he was feeling bubbling up inside of him.

After a while Khushi got out to find Arnav not in the room. She knew he would gone jogging. She saw the pad on the bed, picked it up and read it.

Khushi

Gone for a run be back in a while. Please can you not tell anyone what I did for you yesterday as they all think I had a headache and came home to sleep.

P.S Look in the draw under your dressing table.

Khushi couldn't help but smile but she could hardly bring herself to tell anyone what happened last night. She walked over to the dressing table opened the draw and saw a small box. She picked it up to find a pair of long diamond earing's with ruby hearts at the bottom matching her necklace which she had placed with all the expensive jewellery she had already received from Arnav in the draw in the cupboard. She opened the cupboard, opened the draw inside and placed the earings in there with the necklace. She knew he loved her but the expensive gifts were a bit much. She just wasn't use to them. She knew she had to speak to him about this. Once she was read she went downstairs.

Shyam woke up feeling very relaxed as he stretched his arms the nights events flashed in his mind. He sat up bolt upright mad as hell. Arnav Singh Raizada I will get you for you did to me last night he thought. A feeling of nauseousness at the pit of his stomach wondering what had happened after he was forced to take the sleeping injection. He hated the thought that Khushi his Khushi was now more possibly completely Arnav's wife in every sense of the word as what he had seen on the terrace came back to him. No it's impossible he thought. He knew he had to speak to Khushi himself to relinquish his fears. He got up and went to the washroom with that in mind.

Arnav had come back gotten ready for work and headed downstairs to breakfast to find most of the family at the dining table. He walked to his seat and sat down. Khushi and Payal were serving everyone. Khushi saw Arnav sit down and went to serve him breakfast. Nani and Anjali were observing them the whole time trying hard not to laugh.

Nani: Anjali bitiya you know something I miss NK bitwa.

Anjali: Yeah I miss NK bhai as well.

As soon as NK's name was mentioned Arnav was growling knowing full well how close Khushi and NK had become before they got married. Khushi didn't know what to think. NK was Nanheji for her. Her friend but she also knew how Arnav felt about him. She carried on buttering the toast in her hand.

Nani: Yeah I was just thinking how you and I wanted Khushi bitiya to marry him.

Khushi dropped the toast and knife in her hand both falling on the floor while Arnav was sipping his tea started chocking. Khushi poured water from the jug into a glass, handing it to Arnav and started rubbing his back while he drank the water.

Nani: Arnav bitwa are you ok?

Mami: Sasuma how could you have thought that that NK bitwa would marry phatti….I mean Khushi bitiya.

Nani: Manorama if you did not notice back then then let me tell you. NK bitwa and Khushi bitya are very much alike. Both making everyone smile and laugh and they got on very well as soon as NK bitwa had come. It was hard not to notice this.

Two men on the table were boiling mad by then.

Anjali: Yes mami. I noticed it as well. Nani and I thought back then to Khushiji and Payalji's parents and ask them if they would consent.

Everyone except Arnav, Khushi and Shyam were shocked at this. The other three being in their own thoughts.

Nani: They would have made such a nice couple. NK bitwa would have made sure Khushi bitiya was very happy. I mean he would have certainly planned something very big for her birthday. I remember when your Nanaji was alive and he always wished me happy birthday first. I am sure Manorama; Mahendra must have done things for you on your birthday.

Manorama couldn't help but feel awkward at this statement as she remembered her birthdays.

Anjali: Yeah come to think of it I am sure Akash bhai here must know when Payalji's birthday is and maybe already planning something.

Akash and Payal were blushing as well as smiling avoiding everyone's gaze.

Nani: NK bitwa would have surely thrown a grand party or something just to bring a smile on Khushi bitiya's face.

Arnav was mad as hell. And when he's mad…..

Arnav: WHAT THE…..? WHAT ARE YOU ALL ON ABOUT? NK WOULDN'T KNOW THE FIRST THING ABOUT KHUSHI. HE DIDN'T EVEN KNOW HER WRIST SIZE WHEN THE FOOL BROUGHT HER THOSE BANGLES AND WHO SAYS I DIDN'T CELEBRATE HER BIRTHDAY. IN FACT WE CELEBRATED HER BIRTHDAY LAST NIGHT…….

Khushi quickly placed her hand over his mouth before he said anything else. Apart from Nani, Anjali and Shyam everyone else looked at Arnav in shock. Anjali couldn't help it. She burst out laughing followed by Nani. Khushi took her hand away and she and Arnav looked from Nani to Anjali.

Anjali still laughing: I'm sorry…Chote…but…your..face…is a picture.

Arnav: Wait di. You knew?

Anjali: Well you should have cleaned up last night if you didn't want any of us to find out.

Khushi couldn't help but blush. She excused herself and headed towards the kitchen. Arnav's eyes followed her but couldn't move at first nor eat. His appetite gone out the window as he just had been caught by his sister and gran in lying.

Anjali: Chote. Next time don't lie.

Arnav: Di please.

Saying this he got up and headed to his room. Anjali felt a pang of guilt that he had not eaten anything and left the table. She was about to get up and put some breakfast on a tray to take up to him when Nani stopped her.

Nani: Anjali bitiya look.

They all turned to see Khushi carry a tray with food on it and was heading upstairs. Nani and Anjali couldn't help but smile.

Khushi had got to her room to find Arnav not inside. She went and placed the tray on the table and heard someone cutting. She knew Arnav was outside cutting his plants. She walked out of the french doors and made her way towards him. She went up behind him and placed a hand on his shoulder. He stopped what he was doing turned his head to look at her. Just looking into those beautiful eyes of hers he forgot what he was angry about. He turned back to put his shears down. He fully turned to look at Khushi.

Khushi: Arnav please have something to eat. I have brought you some food.

Arnav: You haven't eaten either have you?

Khushi nodded a no. He took her hand in his and headed inside but instead of stopping at the recliner he headed into the washroom with Khushi in tow. Khushi looked confused.

Khushi: Arnav why we in here?

Arnav: Well I do have to wash my hands and as I held your hand my guess is you will have to as well.

Her mouth opened in the shape of an 'o'. Arnav couldn't help but look at her and her lips. He had tasted those lips. His gaze getting intense. Khushi started to feel very warm around Arnav. She saw him looking at her and heart started beating fast. He moved closer to her as she moved back. He couldn't help but smirk. He grabbed her wrist and pulled her towards him, his arm going round her waist as his other arm supped her cheek. His thumb circling her cheek as he started kissing her softly before his emotions took over and his kiss became more passionate. Khushi couldn't help but respond. Her hands going up his chest, around his neck and into his hair as he deepened the kiss his other arm also going around her waist. They didn't how long they stayed like that and didn't care only pulling apart to breathe.

Arnav: I love you Khushi Kumari Gupta Singh Raizada.
