Anang Desai
Anang Desai, who plays the loveable Babuji in Instant Khichdi (Star One), dons emperor's robes for episodes of Princess Dollie aur Uska Magic Box (Star Plus) this week.

As King Kyoto, he has a weakness for chic clothes and a fetish for fashion shows.

This daily, which shows Dollie (Karishma Randeva) embarking on an Alice in Wonderland trip, has her touching base in Kyoto's kingdom.

Says Desai, "It's a light, funny character. Kyoto is an extremely foolish king. He is obsessed with clothes and Dollie finds him very amusing."

No time for films

After the popularity of Khichdi and Instant Khichdi, Desai finds himself doing more comic roles.

He will soon be seen in The Great Indian Comedy Show (Star One), as Babuji.

"It's just that the name is similar; he will not spoof the Instant Khichdi characters. Babuji will do the gags." However, the actor is also looking at other television offers. "TV does not leave time for films," he says.

Anang's roles

Anang Desai is a National School of Drama alumnus and made his small screen debut with Raj Se Swaraj (Doordarshan). On the big screen, he played the role of freedom fighter J B Kripalani in Richard Attenborough's film Gandhi.

And though the actor has done several serials and films, he is best remembered as Instant Khichdi's Babuji.

"My name is actually Tulsidas Parekh in the show, but now everyone refers to me as Babuji," he says
