Chapter 37: Good and Bad

"When you have good company, hiding out in dim corners can be a good thing."

Khushi had told him, the little witch. It had pissed him off even as he had heard Brianna laugh out loud.

"I like that. You're more feisty than you look." His date had told Khushi as if noticing her for the first time.

"What's the mystery if you always look the part that you are playing?" Khushi had asked Brianna, looking her up and down, surprising not just him, but also Rajeev, he had been able to tell, with how the man's eyebrow had tilted up in that barely perceptible way of his.

Evidently, Rajeev too didn't know that Khushi could be just as catty as the next girl.

That time when Brianna had laughed, it was in genuine amusement.

She had looked down at herself, her long form swathed in a micromini that showed her legs off to perfection, before looking back up at Khushi to say, "You're right, of course. What's the mystery if you always look the part that you're playing?"

Something about that statement had made him look at Brianna differently. Kingfisher model she maybe, but she was also proving to be smart as hell and shrewder than most of the corporate sharks that he met on a daily basis.

And she was attracted to confidence like moth to a flame... which had proven true a bit later when V had joined them and set off a bit of a verbal warfare between him and Rajeev. When Rajeev and Khushi had walked away, Brianna had run the nail of her index finger down his back as she said, "He's seriously hot to take you on."

He had laughed, at a loss for any other response in the moment. The woman was from a different world indeed if she could admit to being turned on by two different men simultaneously. Good thing he could handle that sort of stuff. She was exactly what he needed. Not a goody-two-shoes like Khushi.

"Are you lusting after him now?" He had asked her then. She had turned to him and had given him her signature half-lidded look before saying, "Come on, dear. Having you both in bed at the same time would be more than what any sane girl could handle."

"I don't think you are all that sane, love." He had answered and she had thrown her head back and laughed. Afterwards, she had tsked in mock disappointment as she had looked back at Rajeev's retreating form. "Alas, he is a good boy. And he likes good girls. And I am not a good girl, Arnav."

"Don't I know it..." he had told her as he let her lead him to the dance floor.

She was proving to be a more interesting distraction than he had initially given her credit for.

A few minutes into their dance, she spoke again. "You're also not a good boy, Arnav. I would recommend that you get over your little itch for that girl, and rather quickly too."

He looked at her, now in surprise, and before he could offer a response she continued, "She may think she can take you on, but she is still a bit too green around the edges to do that."

"Maybe that's what I need." He remarked off-handedly and Brianna laughed mockingly. "Have you been reading trashy romances? The real world doesn't quite work that way."

It made him angry enough to retort. "No, evidently in the real world you take two men to bed at the same time. Is that it?"

She pulled back to look at him, one of her eye-brows arched in disdain now. "Poor shot, Arnav. What I shared in jest, now you are throwing back at me like a petulant boy."

God, sometimes women were so f**king confusing!

"What's the bloody point that you are trying to make?" he asked her, his agitation evident in his voice.

"It's in poor form to f**k your employee, Arnav. And in even poorer form to do so when the girl is a virginal little maiden. If her little snide comment to me is of any indication, you have already crossed your boundaries."

"You're a real witch, you know that?" he asked, still holding her to him.

"Yes, I have been told that occasionally, although it's usually when I turn men away who want to sleep with me. I think you may be the first one who said that who knows that I will share your bed."

He closed his eyes and laughed lightly before he opened them again. "You still want to share my bed? Even after all that..."

She paused as if she was seriously considering the issue and then looked back at him. "I am in a quandary, really. You're here already and warm and ready to go and I have already put some time and effort into you, but let's face it, you're easy to catch, Arnav. The challenge really is at the other end of the room where a very good boy is all ripe to be led astray."

He shook his head with a smile as he finally said, "Nicely played. A bit of gender-role reversal with a pinch of mockery sprinkled all over to bring home the point about the double-standards, I assume."

She laughed as well, but then said, "But seriously though, it's a waste for him to be with a girl who is lusting after you. He needs something else... Something like..."

"You?" he offered.

"Oh Arnav. If I ask you to back off from the girl, then don't I need to back off from the boy too?"

"Then?" he asked, once again confused.

He thought her eyes twinkled when she answered, "Vaibhavi."

"Come again?" he asked, his tone changing.

"Haven't you noticed? There's something very strong there... I thought I was merely picking up on the sexual tension between you and the girl, but then I saw the boy look at Vaibhavi, and believe me, there was enough undercurrents there to give me whiplash."

"Don't speak rubbish!"

"I have made you angry. You didn't seem this concerned when that drummer boy was hanging off of her." She remarked, now in true surprise.

"The drummer is silly. And she is not interested in him."

"Ah, so then you do know."

"Know what?" he asked, letting her go now.

"That there is something between her and Rajeev."

"There is nothing between her and Rajeev! She is my sister. Stop talking about her."

Brianna put her hands up in surrender. "Alright, fine fine. You were not ready for that one yet. Fine."

He remained angry still even afterwards and a few minutes later, she whispered in his ear.

"Maybe I will seduce the boy after all. That way your sister and the object of your affections will both be free from his clutches."

"Seriously, if you were a man, I would..." he started and she pulled him tightly against her.

"If were a man, Arnav, I would be trying to figure out whether I want to seduce the virgin or the spirited pixie. I certainly would not be here with you."

"Are you for real?" he asked, even as he laughed now, allowing her to draw him into the dance once more.

"For tonight I am." She winked.

So Arnav didnt do such a bad job, picking the girl... Though I found her to be a littls irritating at times... She laughs too much :S
thats a stronger denial than I expected from Arnav... Such refusal to see what is obvious?
I wonder how much of it Khushi has picked...

So this Babe of Arnav is also smart...she came to know a lot of things in just their first conversation...but i do not like her taking Arnav for granted...i want Arnav to be like he usually is...doesnt care a damn about anyone...but still people come running over to hhim...
