The only reason I think people have voted is the message behind the film. So many innocent female babies are killed every day. Its their need and birthright. If my message succeeds in making people aware of this huge evil and helps in abolishing it. I will consider myself successful.

The talented, vivacious and spirited Animator and Short Filmmaker 'Varun Mehta' who bagged the honours of 'Best Film' recently at 'Buzzgoo' International Short Film Competition at America, is here with a small candid chat with us. We asked him about his win, his experiences and Future plans ahead.

Congrats again on Your International Win! It was quick. Only few months left you won Green Go Competition at France?

Yes, it's unbelievable. Call it destiny, fate, miracle whatever. I am yet to face the title of winning this big contest.

How did this Competition happen to you?

Well I get Invitations via email regularly about International Film contests. And Usually I pick those which I find really interesting. The ones that gives me enough chance to show my skills. 'Buzzgoo' came my way incidentally. It was a great opportunity for filmmakers like me from all over the world to compete and participate. It was a completely newly launched website and it looked like a 'Brand'. Without thinking for a second, I jumped into it with my movie. Then I came to know that the competition shall run for five months. Where I submitted my movie in February, Everyday my patience was tested but I was happy that it was worth waiting at the end.

Who was your biggest competitor?

All the participants were really good and the quality of the movies was at par International Standards. I was myself astonished to see such great talent had arrived at the website. But my biggest Competitior would be a guy named 'Branden Stanley' Who gave me tough competition with his movie 'The Walk'. I personally liked his film a lot. He is very talented and I would like to wish him all the best for the future.

Were there any moments that made you nervous?

There was a time when I thought that this movie 'The Walk' could beat me because We both were quite close when It comes to Voting and gaining Views. But then, every competition makes you nervous at some point and there lies the excitement, the thrill and the motivation to move ahead.

How did it work out in all Five Months?

We are asked to upload our movies and they will be available online for people to view and vote until the final round comes up. The Competition holders made it more interesting by organizing 'Monthly honours' for the films. Like The Film achieving maximum votes shall receive a prize of 25 $ every month on the basis of Voting. I entered the competition in February Where it had already been scheduled in January. Then my film won the monthly prizes for February and March each as it got the highest votes. Then the final round arrived in April where 8 movies out of 50 were to be selected. This was the time that made me super nervous all over. But then I was happy like no one when I got into the finals. And Then I got the love from all over the world gaining more than 14,00 votes for my movie. It was unbelievable. The results were declared on 15th of May on the official website Buzzgoo.com. The award for the short film is 5000 USD Dollars. Not only this, My movie was the most viewed, most shared, highest voted and most liked of all. What more can a creator ask for ?

'You rose an Issue of' Female Foeticide' on an International Platform. An Issue that is considered quite critical in our country. Were you a little concerned before sending your film over this matter?

Certainly not! And Why Would I? All I am showing was the reality and before me many people have raised the same issue and won at many Festivals. At the end my movie raises hope and positivity. So there is no doubt of any concern.

Was it an effect from Aamir Khan's newly launched show 'Satyamev Jayate' which also rose the same issue against female foeticide?

Aamir sir's show came in 2012, where my movie has already made name at various places. It was awarded at PSA Video contest at DBICA theatres Chennai last year. But I am happy that Aamir Sir's show is doing so well and I would be very happy if he could make a difference on this matter through his show.

We have heard you are re-launching your studio. Is that true?

Yes, I am giving 'Varun Mehta Productions' a new name. It will be re-named as 'Wiz'. A short form of Wizard. From there, I will launch many projects.

Ok, so now what are your future plans?

Life is very short. I often complain that I have so many ideas that atleast my whole life would measure like just a thumb. So I just need to close my eyes and keep making movies that have soul and heart and they keep touching the positive nerves of the world.

THE UNKNOWN WORLD Wins International Short Film Contest Online!

Animation Filmmaker Varun Mehta, has recently won an award for his film The Unknown World at an International Film Competition held online on The 'Buzzgoo.com' at US.

The 'Buzzgoo.com' is the website designed by top class professionals from Columbia US. The site organised a Short Film Competition in January. The Website has been meant to honour the Artists around the world on the basis of skills and talent.

'The Unknown World' is a 2D Animated Short feature raising the issue over 'Female Foeticide'. The movie is presentation of a girl child in a mother's womb who is about to arrive in the new world. But before arriving in the new world, she has already formed a new world where she is happily waiting for her call. She plays, dances and sings. She knows that after all this waiting, she would finally see the new world. But everything gets short lived when people takes the decision to 'ABORT' the child. She can see herself being killed as well as her world. The film tells about the life of a female child destroyed inside her mother's womb.

Speaking to Animationxpress.com about winning the award Varun Mehta said,"Its magical and unbelievable. When you participate, you always have a dream that you might win but you don't know how brilliant could be your competitors. So your hope gets short-lived. But once you win it, It means like a dream come true. Especially when you come to know that you are the only one participating from your country and you have so many hopes to fall back on. The feeling of winning lives up with you till the end rather than the prize and recognition. It took full one day for me to realize that I won. So I can't really express in world. It's a delightful experience."

The Unknown World has also been screened at PSA (Public service announcement)Video Contest 2011 at DBICA theatres Chennai and at Pukar Foundations for children in October 2011.

Talking about the challenges faced Varun said,"The Film was a challenge in itself. Even a 2 min Animated film can take six months and especially when you have to work on it from 'A' to 'Z'. Challenge looks like a small word. I remember how much I scrapped the project when I couldn't get the things right. The expressions and emotions should work. I thought I won't be able to complete it but once when you dream, sky should be the limit. I took the project to a new medium. The movie took six months to be completed. Since I was alone working on it, I had to think on lot of things.I kept working through out six months with different softwares and tried to make it as simple as I could. At the end the result was far from what I had expected but still satisfactory. Although I work as a team for my other professional stuff, But when coming to make films from heart, its just I and me only."

Varun Mehta has also won at International Green Go Festival at France for his 3D animated film 'Save Trees'.Currently Varun is Working on an animated short film called Survivor. It is a story about a kid who watches his village in horror every year being washed by floods. Apart from that Varun is re-launching his studio and office with a new name called 'Wiz' which
stands for Wizard.
