I know I know I was supposed to update on Monday.. but I got the infamous writers block and I just couldn't write. This update is for IPKKND's first anniversary.. as you will see as you read on. Can't believe that its been a year already! Hope you'll like it :)
Khushi was in a sour mood as she tried to find her earrings. Murphy's law, hmph. She knew she had kept it somewhere safely, at that time deciding that it was the best place, but today when she wanted it, she couldn't find it. As she opened drawer after drawer in hers and Arnav's cupboard, a small wooden box caught her attention. Curious to know what resided inside it, for she hadn't noticed it in all her two years of married life with Arnav, she opened the box, the contents inside it making her eyes soften as tears threatened to overpower her. Her pearls, her jhumka, her broken bangle, her clip, a white napkin with a stain of her blood, his mannat ki chabbi that was with her for such a long time, and other things that belonged to her.
That was how Arnav found her.
"You .. you still have these?", she questioned him as soon as she saw him, and he nodded.
"Do you.. remember the first time we met?", she asked with a small voice, remembering the past. Again, he nodded as an affirmation and closed his eyes remembering the very first time she fell into his arms. The very first time he looked into her eyes. The very first time he hurt her. Ripped her innocence like he ripped those pearls.
"I never got to thank the guy who pushed me onto the stage," she suddenly said with a smile, "if it wasn't for him we wouldn't..wouldn't have met", her voice broke at the end, unable to imagine what her life would have been without him as she fingered with those pearls that he had so ruthlessly torn from her blouse. Arnav Singh Raizada was a man of few words, but this one lady had the ability to make him speechless more often than not, especially on the very rare occasions that they or rather she spoke about the past.
"Is..is this the jhumka that fell from my ear when I came here to give you my resignation?"
"Yes"
"Hayye Devi Maiyya, do you know how much I searched for it later on. All this while it was with you and I thought I had lost it." He smiled seeing her get annoyed as she played the jhumka in her hands, a smile soon playing on her lips too.
The smile remained as he saw the clip in her hand, the same clip that he had removed from her hair after they had danced together during Akash and Payal's sangeet. One of the last happy days before the storm that came into their lives. "It was the first time you complimented me", she softly spoke, "and you removed the clip from my hair as if you had all the right on me."
He eyed the piece of broken bangle as she removed it from the box," I was so scared when I saw this Khushi. I thou..i thought you had gotten into an accident. Someone out there told me that a girl was in the ambulance and a boy was also with her. I thought I had los..lost you. It killed me Khushi, even then. I..i couldn't even breathe properly. Khushi I..promise me that you will never leave me Khushi, promise me."
"Shhh, Arnav, I promise I won't ", trying to soothe him
In an attempt to take his mind off that incident, she took out the next item- his mannat ki chabbi. "Our second meeting, she started, you made me run so much. Only Devi Maiyya knows what a mess I made of the place. I banged into so many people and broke all those pots all because of you, and you wouldn't even take the chabbi. Typical Laad Governor. And then-"
"I insulted you, again. I've hurt you so much over that time Khushi, why did you have to go fall in love with a rakshas like me? Pagal ladki."
"Oh but you said it yourself. I am a pagal ladki, that too from childhood. How could I have fallen in love with a normal man?"
"I'm serious Khushi. Why did you fall in love with me? Why did you forgive me? Why didn't you just ha..hate me?"
She cupped his face in her tiny hands, wanting to crush all his insecurities. "I fell in love with the Arnav that hides behind Arnav Singh Raizada, but to love Arnav, I would have to accept ASR the way he was. I tried, I tried so hard to hate you, but I had seen the real you, and I had already fallen in love. I forgave you because it was never your fault Arnav. Yes, you should have asked me once before believing him, but you did what you did for your sister. When I realised the truth behind our marriage I was hurt, and I was angry Arnav. I thought you knew me better than that. But then..then you were genuinely sorry. You convinced me of your love. You made me trust you again. You..you made me fall in love with you all over again, Arnav. You even changed for the better. How could I not forgive you?"
"Thank you Khushi.", he replied in a chocked voice, pulling her into a hug.
"What, what's this"?, she asked pointed towards his handkerchief with a dot of blood as she broke the hug.
He smiled lightly, not a genuine one but one filled with pain. "Do you remember when I pushed you and you got hurt so I followed you to the mandir to clean your wound?"
"And I refused to let you do it, yes."
"But I insisted so you gave in. I.. the blood on the hanky is yours from that day. "
"You kept it all this while? You know it stinks don't you." , she said making a face as she tried to lighten the tense atmosphere. Suddenly, as if her mind lit up like a bulb, she exclaimed," Arnav! How many times do I have to remind you to not talk about the past?
"What the- Khushi. You started it."
"So. You could have reminded me right. Laad Governor. I don't want to talk to you".
"Khushi", he groaned. "How is it my fault if you forgot?" But she had already left the room. She was well into 5 months of her pregnancy but he could never get used to her mood swings. Now all he had to do was go behind her, give her a hug, smile at her and all would be forgotten.
