There she stood, a vision for his thirsty eyes. All he was ever hoping to see. Something he had started hallucinating about. Is this one of those weird dream states? She looked real enough. But she always looked real in those hallucinations. Except this one didn't vanish. Her eyes. He can't get enough of them, but they seem to scream so many questions that he doesn't quite know how to answer them all. He stood up at that wretched partition that separated them.
"Khushi...?" Just saying her name gave him a joy like no other and made him want hug her and hold her tight, never to let go for eternity. The fact that he could've accomplished this but the stupid wall before him that created a pathetic obstacle from attaining his object of life, filled him with anguish like never before.
Khushi said nothing. Not that she could, anyway. She was lost in his eyes. She felt weak. She'd seen this happen in movies. Something about swimming deep in the eyes of the person you love with your very soul. Even for a filmy girl like her, that thought had seemed impossible. But now she was living it. He was alive, he was safe, that's all that mattered. And when he said her name, hope, pain, anguish, longing, and above all, love coursed through her entire being. She heard his voice caress her name when he said it. She wanted to touch him, make sure he was real. It was driving her mad to be away from him.
She slowly put her hand over the mesh, without breaking her gaze trying to reach him.
He saw the emotions that flitted through her face. ASR was long buried. It was only Arnav now. Arnav who loved his Khushi, and Arnav who knew deep down in his heart this beautiful creatture in front of him loved him with every single fiber she possessed. When she put her hand on the mesh as if to reach him, his heart soared and broke at the same time.
He put forward his own hand, and when their hands met, they knew. Whatever chase-the-mouse game they played was all an elaborate cover up to how deeply they cared for each other and how much they loved each other. They grasped each others fingers as tightly as they could, trying to pour in all those unsaid things.
"Khushi main teek hoon, khushi don't cry... Please math ro... " His heart broke for the millionth time. He could not see her tears. He would let anything upset her.
"Aa-aapne humse jhoot kyun kaha ki aap teek hain? Pathahe hum kitne pareshaan hogaye the? Aap-"
"Khushi main teek hoon, please math ro khushi? Please?"
"Khushi... Khushi tum teek tho ho?" She nodded. He wanted nothing better than to break that mesh so he could protect his wife, his love, his Khushi.
"Pehle mujhe is mesh ko thodna padega, phir hum baitke discuss karsakthe hain, okay? Tum chahti ho na ki main tumhare paas aaon? Mujhe is mesh ko thodna padega..." He said with determination alight in his eyes.
He started tugging at it, trying to pull it open. Khushi wanted to help him so badly that she started tugging at the mesh too.
What if she got hurt?! NO! He couldn't let her get hurt!
"Khushi stop it! What if you hurt yourself?! Neeche uthro! Main karloonga!" He yelled. The look on her beautiful face hurt him like hell.
"Khushi please neeche utharjao. Aaraam se" he said softly. She took one long look at his face to last for few minutes and got down, with Arnav keeping track of her safety with every movement.
In the few minutes that passed, the guy who kidnapped Khushi came in and thretened her to eat her food. Arnav who had found a rope to tie across the mesh to pull it away, fumed as he heard the imbecile threaten her. How DARE he. No one talks to his Khushi like that. He felt murderous rage. But before he could do anything, the imbecile left and khushi came clambering up to see Arnav.
"Khushi tum teek ho??" On seeing her nod, he exhaled deeply, his anger melting.
They looked into eachother's eyes, findind nothing but concern. Every drop of tear bringing back memories of the moments in their own little world.
He then asked her the question that had been bugging him so much.
"Khushi? Tumhe kaise pata chala ki main khatre main hoon?" His gaze was so intent that she felt she ways being x-rayed. Like he was reaching out to her soul just with those potent chocolate brown eyes.
"Wo... Aapne humse ka-"
They stopped immediately as they heard some noise and Arnav immediately urged her to get off.
Khushi sat down on the floor as quickly as she could, as the 'goonda' walked back in.
He started teasing the helpless girl trying take an advantage. And when she tried to get away, he started advancing towards her, his intentions clearly etched on his face.
Arnav who witnessed this entire thing from behind yelled "DON'T YOU DARE TOUCH HER, YOU-" and then he could not hold it any longer. With one mighty pull he detached the window and in one swift motion he was in the opposite room. He took swing after swing at the guy who tried to torment his wife, and stopped only when khushi screamed and gained his attention.
"Khushi? Tum teek ho?" This time, she shook her head in a 'no'. And then she did wjhat she had been waiting to do for a lifetime, now. She ran to him and hugged him tight. Arnav slowly, but surely hugged her back, crushing her to him and making sure her feet never touched the ground. They were finally home, in the place were they belonged, in eachother's arms.
