The young lad got off to a flying start with his debut film Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu. And despite delivering a hit, Batra's struggle in Bollywood continues

Shakun Batra recently confessed in an interview that he's literally hounding people for work. And we are sure, after directing Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor right in his first film, the last thing Shakun expected was that he had to go knocking on people's doors for work. Seems like having a hit film on your resume and being Karan Johar's protg isn't enough to sustain you in a place like Bollywood and Shakun has realised this.

So what's the talented 29-year-old doing these days? It seems he's paying heed to mentor Karan Johar's precious pearls of wisdom. KJo has asked Batra to strike the iron when it's hot and keep his eyes open for his next project. Although Karan hasn't taken any real initiative in giving a much needed push to the rookie's career, he has been quite generous when it comes to doling out advice. So now that Mr Johar has left Shakun to his fate, we wonder what's next on this young director's agenda. We wait and watch!

Basically EMAET has been the biggest farce 'hit' of 2012. Dharma went all out to buy film critics to push this film. But the fate of the director is the proof of the so called hit status of the film.

How can a film's Hit/Flop status could predict the future of a Director?

EMAET is a HIT just coz of Media? If they have the power to hit the film, then i think SHAITAAN by Anurag Kashyap, films like I AM, Udaan, would have been BlockBuster hits, which were praised by Media like anything.

he needs to build contacts...contacts matter in bollywood talent doesn't.

one more director - abhinav kashyap director of dabangg is being jobless these days ...only becoz he doesn't know how to make contacts...this thing he said during the release of the movie...and he is paying the price now

I don't like EMAET, not even music, but it's a Hit among young crowds who loved Amit Trivedi's music & Theme of the film, may be Fresh Pairing...

1st time me seeing a new director talking like this, Whatever happening with him is nothing to do with Hit/Flop status of EMAET... Many directors Debut films are not big success, like imtiaz ali, sanjay bhansali... that didn't stop any work coming their way... so why wud this chap be left begging for work?? it must be some other reasons... who knows...

imtiaz had to struggle a lot after socha na tha...again he didn't have contacts...he had to push himself really hard till JWM came his way and i read one of his interviews tht he would have been finished if JWM had not worked..

second bhansali had always the support of Salman till guzzarish happened and they parted ways, bhansali always had contacts.

it is honest on his part to say tht he is being jobless...why to hide the reality when it actually happens with newbie directors who are talented.

@Nitu: I agree...connections are a factor. But this Shakun guy doesnt lack it given that he was lauched by KJo. And the Kashyap chap took panga with the Khaandaan. Everyone knows what happens when you do that.

@Billa: I think you are getting confused by media hyped critically acclaimed films with a small starcast like Shaitan whose only audience is critics and films like EMAET, Ishaqzaade which are pushed by big PH like Dharma but dont have all the usual commercial cinema elements. Dharma, YRF know how to smartly package and market their films. By the time you realize how crappy the film is the producer would have made a neat profit. Both Ishaqzaade and EMAET were initially tanking till critics spread the word on how awesome the films are. A smart campaign was carried out which made you feel taht your life would be incomplete if you dont watch the films. And as expected crowds landed up in the cinema hall in the first couple of weekends and producers laughed all the way to the bank.
