Liquor bribe probe team shunted out

NEW DELHI: The income-tax officers who exposed the bribery case in which liquor manufacturers of UP allegedly paid over Rs 300 crore to top politicians and bureaucrats as reported by TOI on Friday have been shunted out to small towns and nondescript postings.

I-T director (investigations) P K Kedia, who led the probe against the liquor manufacturers'association, has been taken off the case and moved to the appeals section, one of the toothless wings of the department.

His deputy, additional director P S Tomar, has been transferred to Mathura and given the job of supervising I-T filings in the range.

Another officer, Shravan Kumar Gotru, who sent a notice to the wife of a leading politician from UP, is now in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh. All in all, the investigation team, say I-T sources, has been dismantled and scattered.

Some I-T colleagues of these officers claim that the concerned taxmen were "instructed" to relinquish their posts before they could complete the 'appraisal report'in the payoffs case. Normally, the officer who conducts and supervises the raids, is responsible for finalising the 'appraisal report'.

Interestingly, Kedia had taken charge of the investigation wing of I-T in Delhi only six months before he was given marching orders.

Indeed, except Kedia, none of the officers on the case have completed eight years in Delhi, as they are supposed to under the transfer policy guidelines of the department.

This is sickening.😡 Is this the way to treat honest and upright officers?

I fully believe that unless there is a corruption charge against officer,no politician should have the power to remove any officer. In fact I think no politician should have the poer of transfers at all !!! 😡

What is the solution to all this? How can we get better good politicians/administrators? How can we reduce curruption? Politicians are looting public exchaquer with impunity, curruption is everywhere you see, in UP postings are decided on the basis of money one pays. Our foreign service officials, Armed Forces, Police, Intelligence, IASes...everything is in mess.

These politicians are surely the main obstacles in the progress of the country. Don't know when we would get to see some decent, educated and benevolent bunch of politicians.

In the movie 'rang de basanti', one message they tried to convey was very true. To change this system only way is to get politically involved into the system.

So, the middle class which always cribs about curruption is largly responsible itself. But that leads to another question, why is that there is very little currution in Private enterprises? Maybe reducing excessive Govt control/interference/powers is the answer?

Some of the most educated & decent politicians were also most inefficient and currupt ones.

Nahin, kam se kam mera to koi iraada nahin hai RDB karne kaa, mujhe goli se bahut darr lagta hai.😆

I know it's hard to get selfless people.

No...no..., I am not suggesting you to kill someone. Not the filmy act. With your thoughts and values you can inspire others, even a small group of people. That will surely inspire others to follow your example. The young India should rise against this rampant corrupted political system.

What really gets my goat is when these good-for-nothing poilticans and corrupt oficers are caught ( which in itself is a rarity),instead of resigning these 🤬 ers actually brazen it out have no shame in facing the public again!

In the morning I was digusted to see the rescue operation getting stopped bec'se hon'able Chief Minister of Harayana was on the spot, so he was being briefed on the situation. Why can't politicians keep away from such situations.😡

I know...I was disgusted too with all the random politicians trying to take mileage out of the situation 🤢
