Today's episode left me with a very bitter taste in my mouth. For the first time I am disappointed with what I saw and I shall pen down why.
I have time again mentioned that NBT is an unconventional story and have given my reasons for the same too.
As a woman what I admired and appreciated the most was the characterisation of the lead protagonist Megha, who despite being a widow with two kids, was portrayed in a completely different light unlike any other hindi television shows. She exhibited strength and will power to face life against all odds. She had a mind of her own. Irrespective of circumstances she always stood for what she believed in and never bowed down before anyone for wrong reasons atleast. She was never aggressive like Renu, but she was never submissive either. She always stood up for her honour and dignity come what may. She lived with her head held high and taught her kids the same. I am talking in past tense because today the creative team has marred her character which left me flabbergasted.
Kya pata kitne din rukna pad jaye? Raat ke kapde rakh liye? Kitne Jode rakhe ek ya do? Renu made these derogatory comments and posed a question on Megha's character while Megha stood there without giving any reactions or response. Why??? Even Jeeji Bua understood what Renu was hinting at but it had zero effect on Megha. I would not term it as Megha being indifferent, but it looked like as if she had given up on her self-respect.
Both Renu and Megha are daughter-in-laws of Vyas Parivar and therefore they both enjoy the same rights and status. So what gives Renu the audacity to humiliate and insult Megha in such a cheap manner? Renu as a character was always shown to have grey shades, but looks like to increase the drama quotient; the creative team have now turned her completely black and made Megha look like a dimwit in her presence.
I have no issues with the drama quotient as long as the characters act and react within their periphery and there is character consistency. Today I felt a disconnect with Megha's character and got very restless. Especially after Papaji having forgiven her, and also Megha's conscious being clear, there is absolutely no reason why she should silently listen to such derogatory comments when her honour and dignity is at stake.
I would have also appreciated if instead of Nanhi, Megha had opened her mouth and spoken the truth about the chit since she too was aware why and how Mohan got hold of that number. Making a promise to not be the cause of any trouble does not mean that one stops opening his or her mouth when needed. In this case it was all the more important for Megha to open her mouth and speak because Mohan was talking about Amar and proving him innocent matters the most to Megha.
Today I was unable to fathom her silence. It's my sincere and humble request to the Makers/Creative Team, to kindly analyse megha's character once again, since she is the lead protagonist of the show and is ideally suppose to inspire and be a role model for many in the real world.
I somehow had a strong feeling that Renu's comments would eventually prompt Papaji to accompany Megha, hence the precap did not surprise me. To be honest I am happy with Papaji's decision to tag along with them as this will help him to observe Mohan from close quarters. Its extremely important that he forms a positive opinion about Mohan inorder to support their relationship in the near future when rest of the world decides to go against them.
Finally the dialogue of the day...Unhe mein pa toh nahi sakta, lekin mein unhe khona bhi nahi chahta, uske liye toh mujhe chup hi rehna padega..."You are my life, you are the only thing it would hurt to lose." Mohan does not know if Megha will ever love him, but what he does know is that he will till his last breath.
