@bold : I don't think that would be the point at all of the show. The issue is the bednis being in a situation where they are not allowed any choice about their situation. First, they do not get married. A 40 year old marrying an 18 year old is different from a fifty year old doing sardhakai of a 15 year old. The issue is sardhakai, which takes away the choice of marriage from the girl. The issue of the show is NOT age-gap ! I'm sure Jwala's son, the way he is going, will bring in a bedia girl one of these days, will that be okay cos he is a young guy? No, it'll still be wrong. So age is not the main issue here, be good if we stop harping on it.
The story might go that Vikram does Sugni's sardhakai at the panchayat in a mistaken attempt to protect her, and Aditya then marries her because he mistakenly believes his bhola-bhala mamaji is being trapped by a bedni. Some on this forum also have suggested this storyline. In this scenario, Vik's sardhakai would not be good for Sugni especially if he is married obviously, but Adi's forced marriage would be okay, because they will learn to love each other? The issue is that either way Sugni's choice will be lost. Of course the writers may surprise me and come up with an entire new story, I'd love it if this were not the same old, same old, hate turned to love story.
Also I think its a little simplistic to think that whatever is shown on a show will affect rural society majorly. Yes people do get affected by movies etc. Not just rural but urban people too. So should rural people not see movies in case they get affected? There are plenty of other shows in which much much worse stuff is shown, forced marriage, rapists getting married to their victims, have the rural societies accordingly regressed in the last decade?
You are right the story is about marriage and sardakai. And Vik cannot giove sugni what taht becuase he is already married. I would be surprised if a 38-40 year old takur is not married yet.
