She made a number of documentaries and even made a few short films, but she never thought that she would became an actor. But Sandhya Janak, who entered movies by accident, is one of the busiest actors in Tollywood. She started off her career playing mom to the young Tamannaah in "Happy Days" and ever since, there has been no looking back. With "Dammu", Sandhya has completed 50 films now and is still the most popular choice to play mom to Tollywood's young actors.
"I first started off as a school teacher and then I became a journalist who reported on science-related matters," says Sandhya, who also did documentary features on women scientists for UGC, New Delhi. The actor has also made a film on women titled "Silent Sufferers", apart from a few educational films on children's behavior. In the year 2006, she met director Sekhar Kammula with her script for her new projects. "He liked the script and also gave me a few tips. We never met after that, but after a few months, he called me and offered me a character in his "Happy Days". I was surprised, but my husband and sons encouraged me to do it," says Sandhya.
The actress says her most memorable roles were in "Maryada Ramanna", "Vedam", "Kathi Kantharao", "Village Lo Vinayakudu", "Sri Rama Rajyam" and "Ishq". Talking about her upcoming projects, Sandhya says, "I'm playing an interesting role of a college principal in an untitled film that stars Srihari." She is also playing mom in Chandrashekhar Eleti's film starring Taapsee, Omkar's "Genius" and a new Varun Sandesh starrer among others.
