Note: I wholeheartedly apologize to my previous readers who were looking forward to reading "For Our Country" but I had to put it on hiatus for various reasons. The major one being that I couldn't think of a decent plot to write and how I would end it. Therefore as a substitution, I have started this one which I personally think will form into a much interesting story than "For Our Country"

Case One

An extract from a mysterious diary

13/04/12

The first time I did it, I felt bad. To see the blood oozing out of her chest while her lungs lay right beside her body was disgusting. It stank so bad that I covered it with my favorite rug. Too bad that she stained it and I had to throw it away.

But at least, I got what I wanted. I had once again proved that I was the dominant one. I proved it to her and the whole world. Now I must find another one. Another prey and another rug...

Present Day

Nafisa Hassan sighed as she stared down at the mess of another 17 year old girl with long brown hair. It was a horrifying sight and for the first time in her life, she worried for the girls living in Mumbai moreover, her own baby sister Aaliyah who was two days away from turning 17.

Aaliyah, her little baby sister who was anything but mature would be a threat to the serial killer who was striking every month on the thirteenth. How would she protect her from this when she couldn't do it for others?

She turned once more to glance at the remains of the dead girl before sitting in the car to drive back home. And as she drove there was only one thing set in her mind. To catch the serial killer.

***

The lonely man that sat on the grave running his long, lean fingers on the headstone was a great interest to Aaliyah as she merrily drew him in her sketchbook. She hoped he would keep still and sat a little longer so she could capture the grief painted on his exquisite features.

She drew him with ease and expertise but when it came to his grief-stricken eyes, she hesitated. How was she to draw the spirals with the sadness swimming in them. It was simply impossible not unless-

"Julia?" came a calm yet choked voice from above her head. Her eyes fell to the empty grave and then to the man who stood towering above her, his hand outstretched mere inches away from her face.

And then she saw his eyes clearly. Like forest green but sharp and observing past the sadness. He had long hair that fell to his shoulders and he wore a cross in his neck. Christian, she noted mentally wishing that she wasn't trapped in his manipulative gaze. She broke it instantly when she felt a soft yet manly hand touch her cheek. It was his hand which she had forgotten about.

"Julia," he sighed, closing his eyes in contentment. His hand stroked her cheek and she leaned back slowly. Despite being a 16 year old, she knew well about her surroundings. And this man was enchanting but equally dangerous.

Pushing his hand off her cheek, she rose and stepped away from him, fully aware as he watched her move like a predator.

"I'm not Julia," she said, brushing her school skirt out of no interest. It was then that he realized that the girl who he had thought was Julia was simply an impostor. She was a mere kid who had been blessed with his Julia's face.

"Who are you?" she asked inquisitively, ignoring his now fuming gaze. His gaze held such passion and hate that she wished the earth would open up and swallow her there and then. Nonetheless, to ease the situation, she smiled and introduced herself. "I'm Aaliyah!"

He stood there awed wondering how she was the first person to not back down from his gaze. Even Julia had told him that it scared her immensely and that she didn't want him to use it again on her and he didn't. But now it seemed like he was. His eyes softened immediately at the thought and naivety of the young girl.

"Joe," he said, looking away tiredly. Nature was playing it's own games on him. Torturing him the way he tortured girls every month. He couldn't believe it. He simply couldn't.

And as his eyes fell on the sketchbook that sat opened on his drawing, the monster in him roared. How dare this stupid girl capture his private moment with his Julia. She had tried to torture him and then she had captured him damn good on a mere piece of paper!

Grabbing the sketchbook before she could, he tore the paper out harshly, scrunching it into a ball. She had gasped at that and tears had pooled in her brown eyes while she sniffed childishly.

"You will never ever draw me again!" he hissed, grabbing her hand and thrusting the sketchbook at her. "And... you will never ever come here again."

He turned away and stomped to his car which stood behind the shrubbery. But before he drove away for good, he saw the distressed girl running away while the love of his life lay dead beneath a grave.

Note: Ranveer is not a villain in this story!!! Please. Please. Do not misinterpret the characters in this story. Yes, he is a dark character but he is definitely not the villain. And yes, I decided to name him Joe because even I can't imagine the tough cop to be a serial killer! Oops, did I give that away!? Nah, not really. ;) Coming up next is Case One - Continued.

Note: Thanks to everyone who commented and liked the first part! Here is the continued part as promised. (By the way, to new readers who are not aware of this - I unfortunately cannot send out PM's due to my annoyingly hectic life... and that's probably why every part is so minuscule!)

Case One: Continued

"Wow, what a cool pendant!" exclaimed Aaliyah, running her slim fingers on the onyx which was beautifully held inside a carved heart-shaped steel with diamonds twinkling here and there. It was truly beautiful and she had a strong urge to never let anyone touch it again.

Holding possessively to her heart, Aaliyah childishly hid it away from Rishi who was trying to sneak a peek from above her shoulder. After every failed attempt, he himself began to move her arm out of the way.

"Rishi, stop!" she cried, elbowing him in the rib while shoving the necklace in her pocket. "It's mine!" He pouted as she smiled in victory and stuck her tongue out at him. Despite being 17, Aaliyah had not changed her bubbly and refreshing behavior which made Rishi very fond of her. Nothing will ever change her, he thought, deeply. How ominously wrong he was...

***

Joe sighed as he wiped his dagger clean scrunching his nose slightly in disgust. He would've have to sterilize this again - he couldn't afford to become sick or catch something from their dirty blood. Soon I will hunt another prey, he thought glancing at the calender.

Pinned beside the calender was a creased paper with drawing of himself capturing his every detail. He was simply awed at the perfection of the drawing and moreover at the games God was playing with him. God was making him suffer, the way he had made those girls suffer. Karma was a bitch, indeed, he thought smirking devilishly.

But why was he even thinking about her? She was not his Julia - not even close. So why was he suddenly so attracted to this impostor? It must be the face... yes, that's what it was! Yet even he knew and had felt the strange spark of energy between them - something he had not even felt with Julia.

It was wrong - so wrong but on the contrary it seemed so right. Yes... he would've have to see her again... perhaps even talk to her...

***

"Catch the ball, Meghna!" laughed Aaliyah, joyfully throwing the tennis ball straight at her face. It smacked on her glasses, knocking her off her feet causing a loud commotion.

"Ow! Aaaliyah!" she groaned, fixing her glasses and hair. "It's not fair! I wasn't even ready!" She grabbed the tennis ball and threw it straight at her but she ducked in time.

"What kind of a picnic is this?" commented Nargis, pulling some grass out of the ground. She preferred to not involve in games but instead focused on her intellectual mind. "I mean... we should play Antakshari!"

"Bo-ring!" stated Aaliyah, yawning to emphasize her point. The others nodded in agreement while Nargis sighed, shaking her head and returning back to her calm posture. Meanwhile, an idea struck in the clever mind of the enthusiastic 17 year old.

"How about we play hide 'n' seek?" she asked, her eyes brightening like a child's. "But! To make it more interesting, let's play it in the forest!"

"You are crazy, Aaliyah," said Nargis, shaking her head in disappointment. "We are strictly not allowed to even -"

"Oh, come on, Nargis! Don't be such a bore..." interrupted Meghna, pulling her to her feet. "When do we even get to have such fun?"

"But the forest is so..."

"Beautiful," completed Aaliyah, dreamily eyeing the beautiful flowers she saw from far. "I'm sure it get's more pretty as we go deeper into it..." She stepped lightly towards it staring intently at the trees and tulips that bloomed in it. For a second, she thought someone watched her from afar but shook the thought out of her head.

"You girls, hide and I will seek," said Rishi turning away from them as he begun to count to 100. The other three dispersed into different directions, quickly moving as his count increased.

***

Aaliyah sighed frustratingly as she realized she was lost. Sitting down on the nearest object, she saw, she harshly typed in Rishi's number for the umpteenth time. Why did these stupid places never have a network, she thought, looking around the dense greenery. Despite everything being beautiful, she felt herself getting panicky. Too panicky... almost a familiar feeling.

She chewed on her bottom lip eyeing every corner of the forest around her, apprehensively. If a lion or a tiger was to jump out, she would have to run very fast. Surely, it wouldn't follow her, would it?

Suddenly, the bushes behind her moved and she felt her heartbeat increase. Her eyes filled with tears as she realized that she was to become a meal of a wild animal. Her friends, her Aapa would never see her again. Now I know how it feels to be eaten everyday, she thought gloomily. I will never eat meat again in my life, she promised herself.

But by the time the sound stopped, her cheeks were wet with big tears and she had succumbed to herself preparing for death while wailing loudly.

"Ahem..." came a voice from in front of her. She ignored it wondering how an animal could possess such a velvet and soft voice. The spark buzzed around her and strangely it calmed her nerves a little. But not enough to stop the loud wailing...

A small smile crept on Joe's face as he eyed the young girl who sat wailing in front of him. But the next second, he was concerned and inches away from her attracting and torturing face. Nudging her lightly on the shoulder, he expected her to stop crying but worst happened when she yelled quietening every sound of an animal nearby.

Clasping a hand on her mouth, he watched as she struggled futilely punching against his arm. He sighed removing his hand and shaking her back to reality.

Aaliyah opened her eyes to find the lion she expected to be seated beside her but her eyes widened as she came face to face with the familiar piercing eyes. It was the man whom... she had drawn.

"...I-I thought there was a lion..." she said uncertainly, dazed at the enchanting depth of his eyes.

Similarly, Joe was having a difficult time in keeping his emotions in check. Her innocent face was driving him crazy and he never wanted to see any other face apart from hers. He never wished to be parted from her again and so he decided...

"Your friends are looking for you," he lied expertly. "They are headed towards the shelter houses... there," he pointed far off in the distance where she couldn't exactly trace what he was telling her. However, she felt compelled to agree.

"Okay... thank you," she said, quickly, rising to her feet and moving away from him. She moved not a step further as a powerful hand clasped on her wrist.

Relishing at touching her, Joe felt a spark shoot through his entire body warming his heart. He knew she felt it too as her arm trembled a little and she confusedly stared at it. However, he knew this was not a time to dwell on it... it was time to recapture what was his.

Note: I'm extremely sorry if I am forming a rather weird character of Ranveer. And in further parts, there will be mild violence and a little harsh scenes. I will post a warning beforehand! Thanks for reading, once again! :D

Case One: Continued (2) Last Part

"You live here?" asked Aaliyah, scrunching her nose in pure disgust. True, she wasn't expecting the man to own a mansion with dozens of servants but this? There was something so off about this place... if only she could put her finger on it.

"Is there a problem?" he snapped, with coldness irking in his voice. Seeing her flinch, he immediately sighed and softly rephrased the question. "Is something wrong - I mean..."

"No, no! It's a lovely place," she fibbed, crossing her fingers in her pocket. Looking around the dark atmosphere of the house had freaked her but she was sure she could change it in a jiffy! As if an idea struck in her head, she walked to the window and examined the torn, purple curtains.

Being a profiler, he could identify people's behavior but this girl was an exception. It almost made him angry but he was able to cope with this. After all, she was just another one of those who would die at his hand at some point.

Suddenly, a gush of sunset light burst through the house leaving everything exposed. Leaving him exposed.

"It's such a wonderful day! If you'd only drop down these walls," she gestured to the curtains with her hand. "...I am sure this house would shine -"

Her eyes paused on the picture which hung on the wall and for her everything stopped. The woman who stared back at her should have scared her but the unfamiliar dress she knew she hadn't worn in her life told her that this woman was someone else. It was not her but her own long lost sister.

Tears poured down her creamy cheeks and for a second, Joe was worried. But when he followed her gaze, he wondered how much her reaction differed to something he had been expecting.

"You... Mehreen!" smiled Aaliyah, wiping the tears harshly and running to the massive portrait. She touched it again and again wishing her older sister stood before him. "Mehreen... Allah, Mehreen!" she exclaimed, again confusing Joe even more.

Stalking towards her, he firmly grabbed her arm and shook her till her attention was on him. Finally, in annoyance she glared at him.

"What?" she flared, sternly releasing her arm from the painful grip it was tied to. She had a lot of questions running in her mind but she was scared that everything she was seeing was simply a dream.

"Her name is Julia. Do. You. Get. That?" Joe was sick and tired of everything that had been happening in his life since many days. Since this girl suddenly appeared in his life looking identically like his own Julia. But everything about her infuriated her - especially when she referred his Julia as someone else.

Laughing lightly, Aaliyah shook her head while he watched her curls bounce lightly, mesmerized by such a simple act. "This is not Julia. Her name's Mehreen. Mehreen, my... my..."

"Shut up!" he interrupted, pulling out his revolver and aiming it straight at her head. She gasped, her mouth turning into a beautiful 'o' while the light and happiness disappeared from her eyes. For some reason, Joe found that irritating but he let that thought pass.

"I... I'm sorry..." she stammered backing to the wall, finding comfort with her sister's picture near her. "I... I w-was j-just so happ..y to see my sis-sis-ter..."

And then she burst into tears wailing like a baby right before his eyes. He couldn't believe what she had told him but he was 100% sure she was definitely mistaken. Or simply stupid. He glanced at her shaking form and wondered if she was actually serious about this.

"Are you... laughing at me?" he asked uncertainly not wanting to become a prey of a teenage girl's joke. "Are you playing a goddamn prank-"

"No!" she exclaimed, horrified. Her face looked grief-stricken and shocked and she wondered how this man could even think like that. Come to think of it, why does he have my sister's picture in his horrible house?, she wondered confusedly gazing up at his piercing, concerned eyes.

"She's my twin sister! Mehreen! I... can't believe it..." Her eyes returned back to the picture before glaring at him penetrating his soul. "But...but why...why do you have my sister's picture?"

"I met her two years ago... in a hospital..." he sighed lightly knowing it was his turn to explain as things began to make more sense to him. He wondered if she had figured it out yet. Probably not, he thought as he eyed the confused damsel that stood before him.

"I... was doing voluntary work there when I saw her..." His lean fingers ran through his long locks stopping often because of the tangles he never bothered to brush out. "She had severe case of amnesia... and -"

"Amnesia?" cried Aaliyah, her eyes turning severely concerned. "It's not some serious disease, is it? Tell me, please, she's alright, no?"

Exhaling deeply, he continued to explain her bypassing her last question. "Amnesia is a severe kind of concussion where the victim loses his, her memory."

She gasped, once again forming that beautiful 'o' shape he loved. "You... you are lying! LIAR!" she yelled, standing up and pointed an accusing finger at him. Fiery, he thought, smirking internally. "How could you say that?"

She raced towards him, her fists clenched and ready to pound at him. But he was quicker and had her pinned to the wall before she was even in his reach. Yes, he felt bad for this girl who had lost her sister but he wasn't going to simply take her nonsense. He didn't give a shit if it would pierce her soul for he had suffered more than her and she had lived in an act of ignorance somewhat hoping her sister was alive somewhere. Why didn't she try and find her, he thought angrily.

"Julia," he emphasized hard to make her understand his view. "...was very young when I saw her. I felt an immediate pull to her... just like I feel towards you..." The bold words which flowed out of his mouth didn't shock him for he was used to getting his way around people.

"She didn't know her name. Or her age," he watched her eyes drooping sadly which reminded him of when Julia would try to get her way with him by using the manipulative fake sadness. He found it cute. "She knew nothing... and that's when I took her into my care..."

"You... you kidnapped her!" she screamed, spitting at his face. "Let - let go! You abductor!" He wiped his face gingerly not wanting to lose his temper anymore.

The vivid images that swirled in his head with her every accusation was enough to set him off. But the sorrow and grief which she released through her tears softened his stone heart to melt.

Sighing, her released her arms and stepped away. "I didn't abduct her. We came friends at the hospital and... she wanted to go with me."

Several emotions flicked in her eyes; confusion, worry, trust but anger overtook it all.

"You liar! You abducted her and that's... that's..." she looked around the room frantically, sweat pouring down the side of her face. "...that's why you brought me here! As a substitute for my sister. You never loved her! You loved her face and that's what drew you to me!"

Placing his hands on his ears, he roared in pure agony and hatred. "Shut the hell up! SHUT UP! This world can never understand me! NEVER! No one deserves to live! NOT EVEN YOU!"

He pulled out his revolver once again aiming at her head while she stood there stationary. He knew he couldn't kill her but her accusations were forcing him to. Keeping her eyes fixed to hers, he placed it on the floor and kicked it to her.

"There. Pick it up. And. Shoot." He sat down on the chair - the one Julia had died on. "Kill me for loving your sister. Kill me for loving every bit of her," he sighed lightly before saying the next words which wrenched her heart out. "Kill me for falling in love with you..."

There was a moment of silence before she picked up the revolver and threw it out the window. She knew he was watching her every move but she felt as if she didn't care anymore.

Glancing at him, she saw the honesty shining in his sparkly spirals. "I... am sorry. Whatever happened with my sister..." she sighed, a few tears dropping out of her eyes. "... I don't want to know. I am not... as strong as you were... are."

She walked to the door, opening it while glancing one last time at the picture that hung on the wall. "I ... am sorry for causing any pain..."

And, then she walked out into the thundery rain feeling a new burden on her shoulders and a sense of grief which she had taken or shared with Joe.

Soon, she met up with Rishi who had immediately draped her in his coat.

"Aaliyah, where were you? We were worried sick... Aaliyah! Aaliyah, are you listening?" he asked, shaking her roughly. "What... what's wrong? You are so... not yourself. Look, let's go back to the tents and -"

She wiped her tears and managed a smile. "No, Rishi. This is me..."

He sighed lightly. "Look Aaliyah. Let's go and get some sleep. You are clearly not alright." He proceeded forward, picking up his bag, scanning the area. He muttered a few words to himself while Aaliyah turned to glance back for the last time at the small house she could still see.

"...Rishi, today I leave as a changed girl. As a changed woman."

And then night fell onto both their lives and they lived separately both remembering only one girl. Mehreen...

Note: Please excuse any punctuation, grammar or any other mistakes in this chapter. Extreme apologies for making it not so interesting but next is Case Two. No more changes in the characters from now on. They will be our favorite Ranveer and Aaliyah. :) Adios!

Note: Phew, I decided to cut Case One a little short but anyway, thanks for all the lovely comments - I enjoyed reading every single one. Here's Case Two.

Case Two

"This case is quite different from the others, Ranveer," stated Detective Mallika, sipping her hot chocolate earnestly in the early morning hours. Hot chocolate had always made her happy even in the tiresome hours of a new day. Ranveer was quite the opposite of her and lasted on the disgusting, bitter caffeine. "This guy seems like he has a strong hatred for foreigners. Perhaps, he suffers from xenophobia?"

Ranveer stared at the details of the murders and knew that was not the case. He had been profiling murderers for a long time and he didn't need his gut to tell him that the killer was interested in something more than just that. If only there was some sign...

"Hey, guys!" cried a familiar voice, enthusiastically. Ah yes, he thought with a grin, Hail Princess Aaliyah. He turned around to greet her wondering how someone could be so enthusiastic so early in the morning. Noticing her setting down a few bags, he immediately asked for the content.

Laughing melodiously she pulled out a teddy bear and threw it at him. "Happy birthday, tough cop!"

Groaning, he pinched the bridge of his nose. "Gosh, Aaliyah! There is absolutely no need for that. Or this..." he pointed at the brown teddy bear which held a cushion saying 'happy birthday'. He felt so small and embarrassed at even touching the thing but felt equally compelled to take it by an unusual force he was unaware of.

"Oh my god, Ranveer!" cried Mallika lunging towards him for a hug and finally wrapping his arms around his neck. "God, I forgot. Happy birthday."

Spluttering loudly, he ignored the mocking laughter fading away. "Mal-lika, hiccc! C-c-cho-kkking!"

"Crap!" she yelled, releasing him and sitting back down. Her love for him had made her attack him so savagely otherwise Mallika would never ever be soft enough to show him this side of her. Squeezing his hand, she muttered an apology while he smiled, shaking it away.

Picking up the teddy bear, he made his way into the laboratory to simply talk to Aaliyah for a bit. He didn't know why but she had changed him from the day she joined the force. Now it was impossible for him to stay away from her no matter how much he denied it.

***

"Special Agent Ranveer," acknowledged Aaliyah from behind the computers while her partner, Forensic Specialist Dhruv extracted another DNA genome from the victim as a hair. Her heartbeats quickened as he drew closer to her but she kept her personality professional and hidden.

"Aaliyah," he replied back waiting for her to make eye contact. He hated it that she would only show her bright side few times a day and behind the computers, she was a completely different person. Someone he was scared she would turn into.

Typing furiously and watching the images flicker past her eyes at quickening speed, she looked up annoyingly. "Something I can help you with, Agent?" Her mini outburst was cut short when she noted the teddy bear he held in his hands. "If you don't want it, throw it away!"

"Goddammit!" he exclaimed placing his hands angrily on the table making both Aaliyah and Dhruv jump. "What is with your attitude, Aaliyah? Seriously, you need to -"

"I do not need to anything, Agent," she replied back sternly but rather grievously. "I am simply doing my work."

"Indeed," said a sinister voice in the background. All three eyes turned to the man who stood boldly and with a stiff attitude. Aaliyah and Dhruv both continued their tasks leaving Ranveer to fight the battle alone. He hid the beloved teddy bear behind him as the Chief eyed him up and down.

"This was the last place I thought I would find you, Special Agent Ranveer," smirked the Chief, pleased that he had another point against the roguish agent who he had come to despise. "How about we leave our geniuses to the DNAs and perhaps do something we're supposed to do?"

Sighing, he gave Aaliyah a deathly glare who stared back at him till he walked out. Truth was, she was not pleased with how he hadn't been bothered about the way Mallika touched him. But in the end, she shouldn't care, should she?

***

Walking home alone had never appealed Aaliyah not even when she was upset and like everybody would want to be left alone. She had found the teddy bear in the garbage shortly after she left and that was enough to make her decide to never ever speak a word to Ranveer again. He had never appreciated her efforts and when she had thought he would; he simply turned around and proved he wouldn't.

Feeling footsteps approach her, she swung around to punch whoever decided it was a good idea to break her personal inner discussion with herself. But the intruder ducked and raised his hands in submission.

"Whoa, whoa, Aaliyah!" said Dhruv, stepping a little away from her. "It's just me, relax!"

Huffing angrily, she turned on her heels and began to stomp away knowing he was going to annoy her till they reached her apartment. Hearing him talk about anything made her extremely angry and at this point, she was sure he wouldn't want to mess with her.

Stopping abruptly, Aaliyah glared at him. Dhruv wondered what suddenly happened. Does she not like computers? Oh man...

"Look here, nerd!" she started. "I'm not here to talk computers with you when I'm off my duty. In fact, I'm not here to talk to you about remotely anything so could you please..." she gestured her hand away from her. "...like leave me the hell alone?"

Dhruv had enough. This was the last time she would insult him and he would take it. His love for her was everlasting but his calm posture definitely was not! Stomping away, he vowed to make her feel hated and finally come to him and then she would realize who's been with her all along. He had already taken his first step... now he had to do something big. Something which will wipe off that pig's name from her life for forever...

***

"Chief, you can't put me off the case!" yelled Ranveer, bursting into the Chief's office while Mallika trailed behind urging him to shush down. If he went too far, there was a possibility that he would lose his job and there was no way she would stand that. They had come together and they would go together too.

"Special Agent, do not enter my office without-"

"Like hell I will knock!" he interrupted, shaking off Mallika's hand from his shoulder. He was extremely annoyed with Aaliyah till this morning but as soon as he had entered the precinct and heard the news, he had seen red. The case which he had been working on for months was going to be snatched away from him and handed over to a dog.

"I make the decisions here, not you," said the Chief, unaffected. Pulling out a leave letter from his drawer, he slid it forward to the fuming man. "Here you go! Sign this and go and enjoy the company of hot babes in Goa! Everyone's happy..."

"No deal!" He tore the paper and threw the pieces in the air. "You make me quit and I am outta' here, you hear?"

"Be my -"

"If you take him off the case, I'm off it too," piped Mallika, stepping from behind Ranveer's broad personality. She had been shocked at the standoffish behavior of the Chief and his way to bribe Ranveer out of the mission.

Moaning, as he saw a lost battle, he tried one last time. "Aw, Detective Mallika, we seriously do not need those blackmailing techniques -"

"Or those bribing attempts either, sir," she claimed as a matter of fact. Chief's behavior today had made her despise him even more and she knew that he was someone they would have to keep an eye on. He didn't seem so committed to abiding by the rules and had even once carelessly shot a man without him posing any harm to him.

Glaring angrily, he muttered a 'fine', dismissing the two detectives. There goes another failed attempt to bring his own son in the place of that crude detective, he thought, grimly. Damn you, Detective Mallika.

***

"Thanks, Mallika," said Ranveer, smiling kindly at his worrisome partner. She was still jittery after breaking out of her shell for the first time and that too in front of the Chief. He had to admit, he was extremely proud of her. "You brought him down, didn't you?"

"Don't remind me," she said, biting her lip nervously. "Boy, I need hot chocolate. You want something, Ranveer?" she asked, heading towards the cafe after he refused lightly. Truth was that him smiling at her so fondly and with pride had sent her to cloud nine but she was scared it would reveal her inner feelings therefore running away was the only option available.

Ranveer watched her go before sitting down at his desk staring seriously at the door. Aaliyah should be arriving by now, shouldn't she? Maybe he had said too much yesterday but it was the last straw of his and unfortunately he had lost control. Yes, he would apologize... if only she would come.

But instead of finding the source of his existence by the entrance, he heard her melodious voice explaining details about DNA to someone. He looked to find Mallika nodding her head in interest while Aaliyah droned on and on.

"And how will you crack the code, Aaliyah?"

"That data code can be opened from typing in numbers divisible by 3. It's simple, really," she said, feeling pleased that someone was remotely interested to know how she did her job. She didn't really care if Detective Mallika wasn't in her liking list, she still knew how to keep terms professional. And that would be exactly what she would do.

Seeing Ranveer approach them from the corner of her eye, she quickly stopped Mallika's question midair. "Oh, I am so sorry, Detective. I remembered that Dhruv needs me to examine some DNAs for him... he must be waiting,"

"Of course," came the reply before she ran off leaving a musky, beautiful scent behind her which Ranveer hungrily breathed in. Mallika eyed the heavy breathing of him and wondered if he was really out of breath or was simply doing an exercise of his.

"Damn," he cursed under his breath hearing the laboratory door slam shut. Ignoring the emptiness, he turned to Mallika earnestly. "Have you seen the teddy bear Aaliyah gave me yesterday?"

Quirking up, Mallika nodded. "Oh yes! I saw it in the trash yesterday... I thought you threw it and-"

"Don't be silly, Mallika!" he scolded, running off to the backyard where they kept their garbage. Him throwing away her present would never be a possibility and such idea was simply absurd. Surely Mallika knew him that well.

Feeling confused and absolutely rejected, Mallika ran off to the ladies to shed a few tears leaving the remaining detectives and police officers shocked at the exchange of conversation between the two. It was making sense now to them that Mallika had a soft corner for Ranveer whereas he seemed all Aaliyah. Chuckling to each other, they looked forward to seeing some romance quirk in after so many years...

Note: This idea of Aaliyah being in the police is not mine. I watched a movie and thought... hey why not? By the way, Aaliyah is Data Analyst. Hope you enjoyed!
