'Anjaan' is yet another tale of a husband, his wife and a stranger who come together in unusual circumstances to make way for some more unusual happenings. Yes, there is a wife-stranger love angle too hence raising suspicion about the movie being yet another take on infidelity. But going by numerous movies made on this subject post 'Murder' and knowing Hansal Mehta's movies in the past, one expects that 'Anjaan' would be a story with a difference. A movie that has an element of thrills associated with it, 'Anjaan' stars Aamir Ali Malik [Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hai?], Mahek Chhal [Nayee Padosan, Chameli] and Vipul Gupta. The movie has only two songs in it but they are of the kinds that deserve to be heard.
One feels sad when a melodious track like 'Bas Ek Zara' gets lost in the crowd of biggies that are promoted more extensively in spite of some average music. Sung by two new voices Vardan and Sunita, this is a soft romantic number that could get any candle light dinner alive. Composed by Vikesh Mehta who has been around for some time but looking for one BIG break, 'Bas Ek Zara' boasts of some innocent and lively lyrics by Amitabh Verma. Special mention is required for Vardan whose voice reminds of the early days of Udit Narayan, especially the number 'Ae Mere Humsafar' from 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak'. This guy deserves many more opportunities from hereon. Sunita makes a belated appearance and is there for a short duration but does well for her part. Hear the song in a 'Repeat' mode and you would want to hear it along entire night!
The other song in the movie is 'Gum Shuda Chain' by Kailash Kher that can find a place as the opening number of any upcoming Lounge album. There is a distinct 'Feroz Khan kind of music' to it from various angles and brings to light Viju Shah yet again who has been composing far too less these days. A painful song about being lonely and no support of any kind, what stands out in the end [in spite of thoughtful lyrics by Amitabh Verma and excellent singing by Kailash Kher] is Viju Shah's music. Even if one takes away the lyrics and the vocals from the song, one can still hear the tune in the isolation and still be entertained. Very good composition overall!
'Anjaan' is going to be yet another classical tale of an album going unnoticed due to zero publicity factor. Still, try grabbing a copy if you are able to get hold of one. There are just two tracks in 'Anjaan' but they are still much better than 8-10-12 average tracks stuffed together in a single album.
