@TM you are right to some extent but there is another way to record TRPs

this is the method we record TRPs in India..

Second technique is more reliable and relatively new to India. In picture matching technique people meter continuously records a small portion of the picture that is being watched on that particular television set. Along with this agency also records all the channels' data in the form of small picture portion. Data collected from the sample homes is later on matched with the main data bank to interpret the channel name. And this way national rating is produced.

Yes you are correct...But this is relatively new to Indian Television Industry...And We Indians are very slow to adopt these changes. 😆
Personally, I am not in favour of the TRP system specially the one which I Disussed.
I would have included your method of TRP reading too but then i thought to restrict myself on the old trp reading method which is still widely used...(moreover, its a boring topic and mymain motive was to make people aware that they are unfortunately not contributing to the trp of their fav. serial)

i want to add one more point...

have you done complete research before posting the TRP system... i am not mocking i just want to know thats all...

because TRPs is the gamble for advertisements, based on 4 cities the brands are not paying the channels to publicize there product... if they depend on one method which you have mentioned that brand products wonot pay much to the channel...

Every single person watching the show will contribute to the TRPs in one or the other way...

Every ad get displayed on the TV will be decided on the day and on the time based on the show recorded TRP in first 15 min...

I will explain you with HD itself.. if you observed initially HD use to show the episode for 5 minutes then ads use to come..
later the channel started showing 15min of the episode before showing the ads...
another change HD is showed @ 11.30 before now it is shifted to 11 this is another marketing stratergy to gain TRPS...

We least know about the marketing ways some times...

just a fun info: according to the servery LIFEBOY soap is the best selling soap in India... because most of the people in villages go for the soap...

Yes...I have actually done a project on it. But my motive was not to go in detail about different methods of counting trp's. I kept it simple by discussing just one topic.

I never mentioned about ads in my post but have a little idea about it. Recently, LG , Godrej and other companies withdrew their ads from IPL 5 because of low TRP. And the way TRP was calculated was the old method which i discussed. Actually, I saw a big article in the newspaper stating about "TRP's of IPL: Then and now". In this article BCCI officials said: '"We admit that trp's are very low this time but the widely used trp reading method i.e tam meter being installed in 8000 homes needs to be changed..."

Every single person watching the show will contribute to the TRPs in one or the other way...
With due respect Preethi ji, I disagree to this point.
forget about others...just tell me, how can I contribute to the TRP's...??? I don't think its possible unless TAM people meet me and do necessary arrangement or set up a device to record a TRP.

Yes, I have observed this. Infact I watch HD at 11 pm only. 😆

WE HARDLY KNOWS anything...Marketing people are known to be super genius and obviously they don't want to see their plans being leaked out.
