Hello Folks,
I have read no. of posts in many forums saying...'If I don't watch the show today then it will affect the trp of that serial and I don't want that etc etc...' Or
' Because some section of people (specially of the forum; Best e.g: SARA Fans) are not watching the show that's why the TRP have dipped.'
Let me tell you...Its a BIG misconception. š
To know why...you need to understand how the TRP system (specially TAM works). The following points may be not new to some people out here but for some it will be an eye opener for sure...
# TRP's are counted by TAM mostly and it is done by installing TAM Meters in the house.
# Tam Meter is a device which records every single detail about the person watching tv...(Like Which channel he is watching., What show is coming during that particular moment and the person saw that program for how many minutes etc...)
#Tam meter is basically installed by Tam people and at present it is installed in big societies of 4 cities like Bangalore (Most Imp TRP Reading come from this city), Kolkata , Mumbai and Delhi.
# In bangalore, Tam meter's are installed in nearly 8000 homes. The records/ratings are obtained from each household where TAM Meter is installed. Then the calculation work is done and reports are printed. Its a weekly process.
# People are paid for installing the TAM Metre in their house hold and more they spent the time on Tv...the more it is beneficial for TAM people.
So what I want To conclude from above points is that the common viewer who is sitting inside in his room watching his favorite program is somewhere not at all a contributor to the TRP ratings.
Even if he misses his tv show for a month also...Then also it won't affect the TRP's!!! Simply, Because his tv doesn't have a TAM meter attached with it.
And we live in 21st century not in 31st century where our TV will start sending back the signals (about what we are watching and for how much time etc etc...). Its impossible as of now.
Our TV has a simple job: To receive the signals through cables and convert it into pitcures and display it. š There is no reverse process.
And those people who are using Dish Tv, Airtel Digital Tv and Tata sky etc...Let me tell you that the dish installed in your home is STRICTLY meant for ONE WAY communication. It can receive signals only and Set top box can only receive and transform the signals (Getting software update, Messages or balance info is all a part of One way communication)
Two- way communication in India is strictly prohibited and research is still going on to prepare small tv dishes for Two-way communication.
It concludes that : Any person having Dish is not at at all contributing to the TRP system.!
Even if it started, I will be the first one to sue them for taking my RIGHT TO PRIVACY!!!š”
(if they pay me then that's a different thing š)
Some facts about TRP's:
1) The ongoing IPL 5 recorded the lowest opening TRP's w.r.t to last 4 seasons. A mere 1.19!!!
Yes you read it right...!!! Though in the last week, some nail-biting and tight closeup matches recorded a TRP of 5+ also but that happens quite rarely...š¤
BCCI is under complete shock because of TAM Ratings...ššš
Infact, Australian people are not watching IPL 5 because there is no one to telecast the matches whose ratings are below 1.5 in most cases...!!! š²
2) TRP of 1 stands approximately = 24-25 lacs people watching the show!!! (At present)
(its just an approximate value)
So our show HD getting TRP's of 2+ means atleast half a crore people are fan of HD.
Last Conclusion: TAM Ratings are not accurately reliable to some extent because how can you judge the TRP'S of a show on mere 8000 viewers...??? These 8000 viewers counts for 1 billion people and that is highly in-digestible to me.š”
In short, if everyone "who are having tam meter in their home" start watching HD at 8 pm then TRP's of HD will be very very high...(higher than Qutub Minaar š) doesn't matter whether the rest of India is not watching it or not... vice versa of the above case is unfortunately also true š„ŗ
I sincerely hope that this post must have cleared your some doubts regarding TRP's system and how we can't do anything as the power to increase/decrease the TRP are in the hands of people having TAM Meter installed.
