The Proposal

THE PROPOSAL

"The longest voyage you can take is perhaps deep within yourself.

The real sense of discovery is not in seeing new places but in seeing with new eyes.

You can travel far and wide, round the globe and back and still not find yourself.

It is the same with marriage.

It is a long and beautiful journey.

To travel across you need more than just someone who matches your religion, caste, culture or bank account.

You need a soul mate."

"I read these lines somewhere and I would like to tell you something." He said a bit nervously.

"Hmm...go on." She said eager to know what he would say next. Somehow she felt that something big was going to happen.

"I have realized that you are that soul mate for me, I want to find myself with you, I want to feel that real sense of discovery through your eyes, I want to feel the love with you. I want you to be my companion in this long and beautiful journey we call life. My life is incomplete without you."

She gasped as his heartfelt words touched her heart and tears of happiness came unannounced. She covered her mouth with her palm as she was speechless when she saw him go down on one knee.

"Will you...will you marry me? Will you be my forever?" He asked looking deep into her beautiful eyes and extended his right hand which held an open box encasing a diamond ring bejeweled with sapphires around it.

She gazed back into his intense eyes which only held an ocean of love for her. She could have never imagined that this man would come to mean so much to her. He was the most cherished person to her as she was for him. She knew what to do because there was... only one answer.

"I was, am and will forever be yours." She answered.

"And?" He asked extending his left palm towards her, his eyes urging her to answer the other question. Her words had shown her affirmation but he wanted no assumptions from his side.

She looked at him, waiting with bated breath, and her face broke into a smile, "Yes idiot, I will marry you." She said placing her right palm in his left one.

His face now beamed with a wide smile as he slowly got up and slipped the ring into her third finger and kissed her hand.

They looked at each other, their eyes shining with happiness and inched closer to treasure their 'kiss of love'.

After a few long moments, when they surfaced for breath, he held her close by her waist and she encircled her arms around his neck with their foreheads touching each other's.

"You took so long; I got scared for a moment." He confessed.

"Idiot" she mumbled.

"Hmmm...aren't you ashamed that you're calling your to-be-husband an idiot?" He asked feigning anger.

"No, not at all." She replied, now resting her head against his chest and continued, "And that is because he is an idiot and secondly because he is MY idiot. I'll call him whatever I wish to." She finished possessively.

"Really?" He asked her tipping her chin upwards.

She gently nodded before he again kissed her deeply and surely.

A few moments of silence ensued even after their kiss until she spoke again, "To-be-husband..." She called him.

He looked down at her and responded imitating her tone, "Yes, my to-be-wife."

"I love you." She whispered tenderly.

He smiled and whispered back, "I love you too, my to-be-wife, I love you too..." as he gathered her closer in his arms.

The two lovers lost in the warmth of each other's arms, uncaring of the world, rejoiced their special night as they gently swayed to the melodious symphony weaved by the silence of the night, the murmurs of the winds and the rhythm of their heartbeats. They had promised each other a lifetime of love, trust and togetherness. There was serenity and joy in their hearts as they knew that from now their lives and fate was entwined. The rising sun tomorrow would bring a new beginning to their lives and their love would bring only happiness in this long and beautiful journey we call life...

A/N: I had written this a long while back...and I posted this only because few ppl requested me to post something soon...I hope you weren't too disappointed

Well I am in 12^th...so you must be aware of the unending exams I have to give...My mind is more occupied with quantum no.s and chemical reactions right now than with story ideas...so I'm extremely sorry if I don't post anything anytime soon

If I do write something, I'll definitely PM everyone on my buddy list
