Chapter 18
(M POV)
The past two hours Uday spent planning on how to get rid of the spirit. To be honest, no one knows what we're actually going to do, Uday said it's best to keep it a secret until when the time is right. As the clock strikes 10pm, I decide to head back home. Everyone is to meet at mine at 10:30pm. This gives us an hour and a half for Uday to explain the plan, and for us to set up everything in place. I have a strange feeling that the others know the plan except me.
I sit on the bed, and think about how eventful my life has suddenly become. I don't know anyone who has been involved with spirits. When I was younger, I used to hear them all the time, but actually seeing an actual ghost is quite frightening. Coming to think of it, Aakash looked quite normal as a spirit form. I've heard that they're meant to be scary looking- spirits that looked like zombies. Aakash didn't look anything like a zombie version of himself, only his being quivered a bit, showing us that he was a supernatural. Also his voice had changed to somewhat calm to a very frighten voice which they usually have in horror films.
A knock at my bedroom door interrupts my thoughts. Must be Uday.
"Come in," I say, checking the time on the clock. It's 10:20pm now. The door creaks open, revealing Rahul.
"Hey Manyata," He says, walking in.
"Oh hi Rahul, has Uday told you the plan yet?" I ask him. He nods, and sits on a chair.
"Yup, he just sent me here to tell you something," He tells me, hesitantly. I don't say anything, allowing him to carry on. "He says that for his plan to work, he can't tell you the plan. But he says he's going to do everything he can to make sure you are safe though the whole process of the plan," He continues on.
"But why won't he tell me?" I ask.
"I guess you have to trust him Manyata. He knows what he's doing," He assures me. I nod, and soon he walks out of the room.
I take a moment to think about what Rahul has just said to me. Maybe Uday didn't want me to know, because I would act differently if I knew the plan. Wouldn't he at least drop in some clues though for me? Guess he thinks he knows what he's doing, unless he's planned to tell me everything at the very last minute.
Soon the other came into my room. We all have a small chat, until Uday asks everyone if he could speak to me alone. We walk into the kitchen, and I look at him, wanting to know what he wants to talk about.
"We're all going to hide, turn all the lights out. You're going to do whatever you did last night, which caused him to come in a form of a spirit," He quickly whispers to me, looking around to make sure no one else hears. I nod.
"After that?" I ask.
"You go to the living room; we'll all be hidden there. As soon as you're in, and so is the spirit, we shut all doors and windows. Guru Ji will be here soon to help us out," He tells me.
"Okay, that's it?" I ask.
"Yeah, and one more thing," He says, I look at him nervous. "I'll keep you safe, there's nothing to worry about."
We return to the others in my bedroom. They all stop talking as we walk in. Everyone sits around the bed, ready to have a group discussion.
"Manyata you ready?" Unniti asks me.
"Sure I am," I tell her.
"Lets go and prepare everything, Guru Ji should be here soon," Jay says, and as if on cue, the doorbell rings.
**
Guru Ji sets a small fire in the center of the living room, placing lit incense sticks around the room. All the lights are turned off, except for my bedroom's one. Everyone takes their places, waiting for me to do my part of the job.
"Good luck Manyata," Uday tells me, giving me a quick hug.
"You too," I tell him.
Taking a deep breath, I shut my bedroom door after he leaves. I repeat my steps I did the night before; changing into some pajamas and then slipping into bed. Only I don't hear the sounds reoccurring. I act that I'm sleeping, twisting around in bed every so often.
After what seems 20 minutes have pasted, I'm twisted in my duvet just like the day when I had my nightmare. I hear the faint murmurs again, footsteps getting louder and louder. Then I can just make out a door opening, which is probably Aakash's office. I start to get curious, wanting to know what actually happened in his office. I quietly walked out of my room, looking into his office.
I see the spirit holding up a gun. There's a girl about aged 18, standing in the middle of the room- looking frightened. He doesn't hesitate when he shoots the girl, she sends out a scream when the bullet gets in contact with her body. Blood splat everywhere across the room, reminding me of my mother's death.
Soon, the spirit fades away, along with the dead girl's body. The only evidence left is the blood stain on the cream carpets. I shudder, after witnessing another bloody death.
Suddenly there's a gust of wind coming from different directions. I start to shiver, knowing that it's Aakash's spirit moving around the place. Then there's a hand on my shoulder, making me turn to see who it is.
Aakash's bhoot smirks at me, "Nice seeing you here. How did you like watching that girl die?" I have realized what a true monster he was, all that time he was just hiding it. Now he has revealed his true colours.
"Why would I enjoy you killing an innocent girl? What had she ever done to you?" I tell him, trying not to yell at his face. He hesitates a moment, hovering down the corridor, he then turns to face me.
"Oh Jasmine... That was a couple of years ago. Anyways, that doesn't matter anymore. It's you who I want," He tells me, laughing in a scary voice.
"A-and what do you want with me?" I stammer, starting to move to a position where I'm facing the living room. He takes a step closer to me.
"You're different... very special," he answers back. I gulp, trying to question what he means by that. I start backing away from him, but he just takes another step forward. "Today's your last day; you have anything you want to say before I finish you?" He asks me.
"Yes, but you're going to have to catch me first!" I exclaim before breaking into a quick run into the living room. The door quickly opens for me, and just when I'm hidden behind the sofa, someone shuts the door.
Jay and Unniti are holding something that looks like a mirror, but Rahul goes behind it. Aakash gets terrified. "This isn't me! I'm a spirit not a human," he says. But he gets ingored. Then they take the mirror away. Rahul looks nothing like Aakash, they only have some simular features, like their lips and nose. But their eyes, and how they do their hair is completely different.
"Manyata kaha hai?" He yelled, looking around, after he recovers from seeing himself in the mirror. Then he tried to open the door, but it was locked. Guru Ji approached Aakash slowly. Uday starting whispering to me.
"Your going to have to trust me, you might not like it. But this is the only way we can kill him," he tells me quietly. I gulp.
"Why are you here? What's your reason for coming to haunt the people in this house?" Guru Ji asks clearly.
"Kya? I want to kill Manyata. If I can't have her then no one can!" He exclaims. I'm on the verge of crying soon. I decide to hold onto Uday's hands for comfort, he gives me a reassuring squeeze.
"I can help you kill her," Guru Ji says to the bhoot. I get shocked and look at Uday. He shrugs, but then nods at me.
"You will? Are you serious?" The bhoot asks, equally shocked as me.
"Of course I will," Guru Ji promises him. He gives a nod to Uday. Uday carefully helps me up, and walks me towards Aakash. Unniti and Jay are trying to hold back Aakash, whilst Rahul is trying to get something from behind the table. Guru Ji hands Aakash a gun, and then Aakash takes a step foward. Uday let's go off me, and I close my eyes.
This is it. I'm going to be dead in a couple of seconds.
I hear the gun go off, and someone pulls me down quickly. I open my eyes, to see a dummy in my place. Aakash has gone mad, sending loads of bullets which are targeted to the heart.
"That's enough now, she's dead. Now you will have to leave everyone in this house," Guru Ji instructs him. Uday pulls me behind the sofa again, so that the spirit doesn't see me.
"Nahi," Aakash tells him. Guru Ji then throws something at him, which makes him yell in pain.
"Why not? I have helped you, and you must do something in return for me," He replied back.
"Okay ok, I will leave this house forever and won't come back!" The spirit exclaims. Aakash looks around the whole room, and then disappears.
"Hogaya Guru Ji?" Uday asks.
"Haan hogaya hai. Now he won't ever disturb you," Guru Ji tells us. We all exchange looks and sigh in relief.
