| Dressed to kill The collection at the store is a fun Spring/Summer line that boasts couture garments like flowy skirts, maxis, gowns, abhayas, jalabiyas and shelas. Urmila gushes, "It's just brilliant. He has pushed himself beyond his potential. He has borrowed influences from the Middle East and the result is outstanding." Green with envy Manish and Urmila's association goes back to her Rangeela days. Manish's first big Bollywood assignment saw Filmfare instituting an award for the Best Costume Design and handing it to him. This was followed by his first ever fashion show, with Urmi walking the ramp. Says Urmila, "I can't say whether I'm lucky for him. You should ask Manish that. But the fact remains that he is one of my closest friends and both of us make a good team. Last year, I wasn't too sure about going for the IIFA awards in Amsterdam. I made up my mind at the last minute and gave him barely 24 hours to tailor an outfit. I had a vague design in mind and I insisted on the colour being emerald green. It turned out to be fabulous, and was one of the most talked about outfits." Adds Manish, "Yes, she is my lucky mascot. She has been there with me since the beginning, so naturally she had to be a part of this big event." The designer is set to open a store in Mumbai on September 10 and another in Delhi by early 2007. |
