We all know the differences between Democracy and Communism, but some of us dont know how each originated and what the original intention of each type of government was. Democracy is pretty self explanatory but communism was actually founded by Karl Marx, his theory formally known as "Marxism". He was often reffered to as the father of communism. However his ideas were very different than what our perception of it is today. He believed that the people would influence every decision (no representatives), and that social classes would be dissolved. He believed in giving women equal rights as men (remember this man lived around the 1700's so the idea of giving women equal rights was very radical at the time). According to him there would be no one supreme representative and all would participate in government. The majority would always influence everyone (meaning if most people agreed to something then it would happen, regardless of the few who oppossed it.) There would be no economy because everyone would work together to produce whatever they need.

Now my question is after hearing about democracy and Communism/Marxism, who do you think is better (theoretically) and what type of government would you like to live in?

Marx's plan was highly dependent on a Benevolent Social Planner (the Government) and this is not possible in practical life.

Moreover, this does not work economically as human nature is selfish. We work for our own happiness and satisfaction. That's why Adam Smith's capitalist outlook makes more sense to me.

However, we also can't depend on private enterprise to provide us with Public Goods such as roads, etc. We need the government for such investments.

I would like a democracy with a regulatory body taking care of day to day matters.

Communism can very quickly begin to resemble dictatorship in the hands of a bad ruler. E.g. Mao Zedong of China.

This is the time for me to complement with Tanaz in this topic as i missed a chance b4 😉

Communist system is a very imaginary system to me.. it looks pretty fragile and is totally "One-Person oriented".. I always ask :Wht is the guarantee that this person is able to run a country with justice??

On Capitalism, i totally agree with the Reason Tanaz is giving... the selfish and competitive human nature has helped to flourish the "Privatisation" against "Nationalization" of companies in the business sector.. which, when complied with other factors, results in economic booms..

As Tanaz mentioned abt the provision of public goods like street lights, roads, etc a government investment is sure needed.. In short, focusing just on Capitalism or just the govt won't help. We need a mixed economic system where Govt. plays its own part and the private sector excels in its field with less but appropriate restrictions (I don't wish govt to be tooooo strict on private sector and neither b too lenient with it... it needs balance)

But here is a change.. i wish to see an intellectual govt. system instead of those fuderals becoming politicians all the time for their own gains.. i think that the power holder people should perfectly know their job i.e. they should be able to cope with the changes/hurdles and must know abt handling the economy of a country properly... I don't want people to elect foolish people to run a country🤢
