When I was a kid, I read an exclusive interview (A transcribed version of what the journos recorded on their recorder) of his where he said his father's name was Mir Taj Muhammad. He didn't add Khan. That's all I know.
The Khan is left out often times, I think. For instance the Pathan brothers, their mother once lamented to the media people that they (the media) have taken the Khan out of her sons' names. I think this may be the case when some people have multiple or long names. Not just in one community but various communities do have some differing naming practices.
