I think the same. The biggest gift Gopi could get (from Gopi's persepective at this stage) is Ahem coming to pick her up and take her home with a positive reason, unlike the last time. It's too early for Ahem to give her a gift especially on valentines day. It would make sense if he is gifting everyone, like he did with the sarees.

As for her being a controlling mother, I think she is feeling thatn emptynest syndrrome. Most mother's suffers from this when their kids don't need their moms anymore. I can see it happening to me when my son grows up and gets married, because right now he doesn't do anything without me.
