Rakshanda wants someone who isn't a commitment phobe By Yasmeen Faruqi

You are playing a vamp again in Kasamh Se after Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin? Is there a certain thrill in playing an evil character?
It sure is. Somehow I find the bad girl very interesting with all her plotting and planning probably because I can't relate to being meek. As an actor I want to try a variety of roles. I have never differentiated between the main lead and other characters. I have come to understand that in a daily soap all the characters have their own importance, so it really doesn't matter whether you play the good girl or the vamp. In Saara Akaash I only had a role for six episodes but I went ahead because I was the important character there despite Sai and Shakti playing the main leads.

But Malika of Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin was the unconventional vamp…
And very popular too. It catapulted me to stardom. People loved to hate her. She was terrible when she tried to get her husband from the other girl but there was an emotional side to her, which people empathized with.
Your good girl act in Saas Bhi Kabhie Bahu Thi comes as a surprise especially since you are a modern girl doing a regressive show so to speak?
Well, that's the fun of it. People who see me as this ultra-modern girl because I was a model should turn around and say 'wow, she can play plain Jane too'. I will not stick to one kind of image. If there is a generation leap and I have to play a 65-year-old with wrinkles and grey hair I shall do it.
As for the show being regressive, I would beg to differ. Just because the show is centred around a woman, does not mean it's regressive. The women in the show are as progressive as they could be. The mother-in-law tells her daughter-in-law to work in the office with her husband. Is that regressive?
Describe your character Roshni in Kasamh Se?
My character of Roshni is completely grey. She is the bone of contention between Jai Walia and Bani and the reason for them being apart. She is the confidante of one Jai Walia's darkest secrets, which she uses to her advantage. There is no hope that she will ever turn positive because she has decided that she doesn't like Bani and will do anything to get Jai Walia.
You seem to work hard on your look in all your shows. Comment.
Yes, I am very finicky when it comes to putting my best foot forward. In Jassi... my look was appreciated. And thankfully, my stylist allowed me to help out with my look in Kasamh Se, as I didn't want to look like a clone of Malika. So we went shopping together. In my show Jodee Kamaal Ki, I gave my stylist the most grief (laughs).
You are said to be the most social and friendly actress around.
Oh really. Now that's a compliment for a girl who was said to be a loner in school. But I guess my college experience made me more chilled out and approachable. Earlier, men found me intimidating, they still do. But thankfully, I have worked with friends. Hiten Tejwani and Gauri are friends and so is Apurva Agnihotri. Ram with whom I am doing Kasamh Se is an old friend. So I have no problems with relating to my co-artistes on the sets.
Very little is known about your personal life?
That's because I like to keep it personal. But if you are asking me about anyone special in my life than the answer is no, I am not seeing anyone. I am a person who believes in 100 per cent commitment and the day I find the guy who is not commitment phobic then it will be for keeps.
