Niche programmes are here to stay. And this is rather evident from the many serials and game shows that blare out of the television screen. More and more TV channels are churning out serials revolving around youngsters. India Calling, Remix, Pyaar Vyaar And All That, Kittu Sab Jaanti Hai, Saath Rahega Always and Ye Dil Chahe More are already making waves across the country.
Says Nishant, a first year BBA student, "These serials are a welcome break from the boring and depressing world of family sagas. I can easily identify with the characters of the serials. The things they go through is similar to our everyday lives."
Ravinder Negi, a final year student of Delhi University says, "These serials reflect our lives! This has never been captured on any Indian TV show."
Karan Wahi or Ranvir says, "Since I am 19, I can relate to it in a much better way. These serials appeal to youngsters because this is exactly what's happening to them in schools and colleges today."
Mansi Parikh Dhir or Chandni says, "It is about call centres, which every youngster is aware of today. The theme of call centres in itself is very identifiable because a lot of the city's youngsters are working in the industry."
Shweta Gulati or Tia says, "I completely identify with my character and the serial Remix because this is what I went through when I was in my school and college. Many parents are also watching it because the serial is about much more than just teens."
Ajay Vidyasagar, VP, content and communication, Star India opines, "Youngsters comprise a large segment of our audience. So we have to cater to them as well."
