7.He stared at her as she licked her ice-cream. He couldn't help but notice that she had changed. Not only appearance wise, but it was the small things that shocked him. Sure the changes weren't drastic and she hadn't appeared like a completely new person over-night, but it was the steady process of her change that worried him.
For instance, she didn't profusely apologize for her late arrival. She didn't start jabbering away like usual about her hectic life, instead she was making unnecessary small talks that you did with a person you want to keep distant with. Sure she still ordered her favorite things which were mostly some junk food but the way she handled and ate them had changed. Like now while eating her favorite cone ice-cream, she didn't just held the ice-cream and let it drip over her hands but she wrapped it neatly with a tissue paper.
"Aise kya dekh rahe ho?" She asked with a smile as she took a small bite of her ice-cream. He blinked and came out of his deep thoughts and just shook his head.
"Tum ne kal milne se mana kyun kar diya?" He hadn't meant to ask her bluntly but her strange behavior made the question slip off his tongue.
"Oh! Kal! Main tou aana chahti thi per kya hai na, kal subah Uday chala aya." She shrugged her shoulders and kept concentrating on her now decreasing ice-cream.
"Wo tou roz hi ata hai."
"Haan na! Lekin kal wo mujhe apne saath apne ghore dikhane gaya tha." At the mention of it, her mind diverted away from the ice-cream. Her eyes sparkled at the memory of it. He couldn't help but feel a little anger boil inside of him.
"Really? Ghore?"
"Aur nahin tou kya? Sach bataoun Aakash, Uday ka itna bara horse stable hai aur wahan pe itne sare ghore hain! Main tou ginn bhi nahin payi." She giggled.
"Aur pata hai, Uday ne mujhe ghor-sawari bhi sikhayi. Pehle tou main ghabra rahi thi per usne kaha, 'Manyata, hum Rajwade hain. Ghore dorana tou hamare khoon mein shamil hain. Tum daro nahin aur char jao, ye ghore Rajwado ko pehchan jate hain.'" She said in a imitation of Uday's deep voice and once again giggled.
"Tum ek phone tou kar sakti thi ye batane ke liye?" He cut across her sharply before she could continue with her little adventure which she had with Uday.
"Time hi nahin mila! Uday ek jaga tikta thori hai! Kabhi yahan le kar jaraha tha, kabhi wahan. Main tou thak gayi thi, aise mein phone kahan se karti?" She rolled her eyes and took the last bite of her ice-cream. Aakash just stared at her as she gently cleaned her face with a napkin, not giving any special attention to him.
"Tum badal gayi ho..." he said in a quite whisper but she heard it just perfectly.
"Aur tum ye kaise keh sakte ho?" All the hints of friendliness in her voice disappeared. Her tone was serious and to-the-point. Just like a royal.
"Jab se tum ayi ho ya tou idhar udhar ki baatein kar rahi ho ya Uday ki! Aur mujhe in dono mein koi interest nahin hai!" His voice was low but the restrained anger was evident.
"Tou kis mein interest hai tumein?!" She said sharply. "Main tumse ek dost ki tarah milne ati hun taake main kuch waqt aram se guzar sakun. Aur yahan aake bhi sirf complains ke main badal gayi hun! Pagal hogayi hun main ye sun sun ke! Aur ab tumein agar yehi batein karni hain tou I'm sorry, mujhe jane do. Mujhe aur bhi bohat kaam hain!" She stood up and picked up her bag.
"Kaam? Zaroor Uday se milne jana hoga." He sneered at her but she only looked at him with a blank expression.
"Sahi samjhe tum. Usi ke paas ja rahi hun. Kyunke wo itne kam same mein wo ban gaya jo tum ab tak nahin ban paye, ek dost." And without giving him any chance to say anything else, she turned around and left. Although this time, he wasn't sure whether she was going to come back or not.
8.Fate. Yes, it was Fate! What else could bring him here?! So far away from his home in a strange city. But he was here and he wasn't dreaming.
There
she was.
She was as beautiful as ever. In fact, her beauty had increased. After months of not seeing her, his heart seemed to race just at the sight of her as she leaned against the car, a shawl wrapped around her arms, the wind playing gently with her hair. He just stood there in awe of her beauty.
"Monia..." he whispered, desperate to go to her and just hug her. He was hoping that his one little gesture would make her forget all her pain and worry that she hadn't shared with him these past months. Sure, the idea of leaving her and not meeting her was mainly his' and he had done everything to stand by his decision. He had walked away and not paid attention to anything else.
But now, seeing her so close to him he couldn't control his feelings. He wanted to rush to her and just say sorry. He just wanted to make her accept him again.
Aakash took one step to cross the road but a few cars passed by him. When the road cleared, he felt his whole world shatter around him.
She was still there...
...and she wasn't alone.
She was laughing as
he tilted his head and whispered something in her ear. She looked at him and gave his shoulder a gentle push. He wrapped his arms around her and Aakash saw as Uday gently planted a kiss on her forehead. And he saw as she hid her face shyly in his broad chest.
And Aakash knew that it really was Fate who brought him here to see this and to tell him that once you walk away, there's no turning back. She was gone...
...and he was alone...
