Chapter 2
The next morning, Kushi was up at dawn and got ready for work. Arnav was also up, but thought he would give her some room after what had happened last night. So he decided to wait around a extra half hour in his room before he decided to start his day.
She didn't want to see him that morning. So she got ready for work earlier than usual. She left him a cup of coffee knowing he would be looking for it and breakfast out on the table. She had managed to prepare his lunch and was about to leave the house when she heard him come out. She hurried to her room without making any eye contact whatsoever completely ignoring him to get her stuff before making a quick exit. As she emerged from her room and walked towards the door, she saw him sitting at the dining table having his coffee.
"Good morning" he said
"Good morning" she said as she rushed to the door
"Thanks for the coffee and food, much appreciated" he said refusing to make any eye contact with her.
They were both embarrassed about what had happened last night. It was the morning after and they were trying really hard to act naturally. She turned towards him and flashed her biggest fake smile
"No problem" she said
"By the way Kushi, I just wany to clear the air with you" he said knowing he was walking into the Lion's Den.
"For what?" she asked pretending like she did not know what he was talking about. Her smile did not leave her lips even for a moment.
"For what happened after dinner" he said casually shrugging his shoulders
"Oh.. Don't worry about it" she said politely
"I guess I just got caught up in the moment. I should have never done that to begin with.. I'm sorry." he said again trying to read her face. He knew she was very good at hiding her emotions and he wanted to get a reaction out of her.
"Uh huh" was all she said before walking out of the door.

Kushi was busy all day. Mr. Patel's son was in town from Canada for a few weeks while Mr. Patel himself was receiving treatment in Canada. He had come to make sure everything was settled with his father's estate and he was looking forward to meeting the infamous Kushi Kumar Gupta, the heir to KK Group. They had met when they were children and he had promised his father to check up on her.
"Hi, you must be Kushi?" he said as he stood at her office. It was open and he looked into see a beautiful young woman busy typing away at the computer.
"Yes I am. Can I help you?" she asked wondering who the stranger was.
"Rohith. My name is Rohith Patel" he said smiling at her.
"Your Mr. Patel's son from Canada?" she asked
"The one and only!" he ssaid
"Oh please come in Rohith!!" she said inviting him into her office.
"How is your father doing? I haven't seen him in the last few months and I miss him dearly" she said as he took a seat opposite her.
"He's doing better" he said knowing that in reality that was not the case. He didn't want to upset her for some reason. She had a radiant smile that instantly captured him. She was very pretty and she had a certain nature to her that made him feel at ease instantly. Not all what he had pictured.
"So how long are you here for?" she asked him.
"A few weeks really.. It's so nice to meet you Kushi! Papa has told me so much about you and he made me swear that I would meet you while I was in town" he said casually
"Of course you had to visit me. Your practically family!! Besides, according to your father we had already met when we were kids, but that's such a long time ago, so I must confess that I don't remember any of it" she said with a wide smile.
"Oh don't worry about it.. I hardly remember any of that either" he said
Kushi's phone rang at that moment and it was her PA informing her that she was running late for her next meeting. She politely excused herself but insisted that she and Rohith get together before he left for Canada. He promised to call her as they exchanged numbers and his bid her a good bye.

Arnav had stayed home all day and worked from his home office. He didn't want anyone to know where he was as he hadn't even told his own family where he intended to spend the next 3 months. Only his assistant was aware and he had decided that if there was a requirement for him to attend a meeting, he will fly in for it. If not, everyone else could take care of it while he figured out a way to spend some time with Kushi. After all, that's what he paid his staff for he thought.
It was 7 pm and there was no sign of Kushi. He had missed her all day. He spent the entire day trying to get some work done while being distracted by her absence. To distract himself, he had spent his afternoon snooping around her room. As he had opened it, he was surprised to see that all the white draping in her room had been replaced by several shawls in different colours making the place look very much her own. He smiled at how quickly Kushi can transform any thing to be more "Kushi Like".
He checked his watch again, it was 7.10 and looked at the door. A few minutes later, he finally heard the door being opened and knew she was home. She looked exhasuted and didn't even see him waiting for her on the sofa.
"Hi" she heard him say
"Oh hello" she said as she walked towards her room.
"How was work?" he asked
"It was ok.. Give me a few minutes to freshen up and I'll get dinner ready" she said
"Ok" he said not knowing what else to say to her.
She emerged from the room a few minutes later and walked towards the kitchen. He had turned the TV on for the sake of having some white noise. He stole a few glances at her as she cooked. It looked like she was in her own world. Once dinner was ready she laid it out on the table and told him that the food was ready. He walked over slowly and sat at the table. She finally sat down and started serving him almost as if they always eat that way. The both sat silently eating.
"So what did you do today?" he asked her
"Nothing interesting" she said. She did not want to talk to him. This small talk business was not her cup of tea.
They both finished eating and he cleaned up as promised. She went to her room right afterwards and shut the door behind her. She did not want to talk to him if she didn't need too, but she wanted to be civil to him since he was sharing the place with her. She knew his temper very well and what he would do if he was provoked, so she decided to treat him with polite indifference.

The next 4 days she did the same thing. They had been living under the same roof for almost a week and all he got out of her was a few words each day. He had tried everything he could, but it didn't work. He had finally resigned to sulking quietly. He knew that taking his frustration out on her would only make things worse, so he decided to give her some time.
It was the weekend though and he knew that she would be home. However when he had woken up on Saturday morning, she had already left the house. She had left him a note saying that she had to finish up some work and won't be back until later that day. After spending another morning of sulking around, he finally decided that he was going to see her at work and surprise her.
He arrived at her office 30 minutes later prepared to take her out for lunch. As he walked into the office, he realized that the place was deserted with the exception of the security guard. He managed to find her office and as he was about to knock on the door, he heard her laughing. There was someone else in the office with her and they had made her laugh. It made him angry knowing that he couldn't make her laugh like that. She seldom smiled at him at home and yet at work, she laughed open heartily.
"Oh Rohith!! That's too funny!!!! I can't believe you actually said that!!" he heard her voice.
"Rohith?" who the hell was that he thought..
"But Kushi, it had to be said don't you think?"
"Ha ha! I agreed! Anyway, thank you so much for coming to see me.. And you didn't have to make this trip you know.." she said
"Yes I know. But I invited you for lunch and you said you had to work, so I had to come by to see if you were really working or just avoiding me" Arnav heard the other voice in the room say. His blood had gone cold knowing that she was spending time with someone else. Someone that was not him..
"Hmmm.. I hope you are satisfied with knowing that I was telling you the truth" she said. Arnav heard the smile in her voice and clenched his fists.
"Well now that I'm here, you have to come for lunch with me. I'm starving" the other man said.
"But I have so much to do!!" she said.
"Well do it on Monday.. C'mon I even got you flowers Kushi!! And besides, if your not going to join me now, I'm just going to sit around and wait for you to get hungry. Your gonna have to eat sooner or later" he heard the man say.
Aranv couldn't bear it anymore. He knocked on her door and opened it.
Both Kushi and Rohith were surprised and they looked up to find Arnav standing their.
"Kushi, I thought I'd drop in to check up on you and take you out for lunch" Aranv said completely dismissing the other man in the room.
"Oh Hi, your here?? Umm.. I was thinking about going for lunch with Rohith.. By the way, Rohith, this is Arnav Singh Raizada. Rohith is Mr. Patel's son from Canada. He's visiting India for a few week. We were childhood friends" she said quickly introducing the two men. Rohith walked up to Arnav and gave him a firm hand shake.
"Why don't you join us for lunch Arnav?" Rohith said totally missing the tension in the room.
"No, that's fine" Arnav said firmly.
"Oh C'mon, why not?" Rohith asked.
"Well you two sound like your having a good time, so I don't want to intrude. Anyways, nice meeting you Rohith. Kushi I'll see you at home" Arnav said looking at Kushi.
"Oh you and Kushi live together?" Rohith suddenly asked wondering why Aranv told Kushi that he would see her at home.
"Yeah we have an arrangement of sorts" Kushi said looking uncomfortable.
"Yes we do. Is that a problem?" Arnav asked Rohith knowing that this whole thing was putting Kushi in the spot.
"No no not at all, I'm just surprised" Rohith said looking uneasy at Arnav's stone cold expression.
"My sister's married to his cousin and he's visiting from Delhi Rohit" Kushi said trying to conceal the truth.
"Oh ok" Rohith said relieved. As far as he knew, she was single. And he hadn't been able to stop thinking about her since their first meeting earlier that week. He had already made up his mind to win her heart and lunch was the first step to it..
"I'll see you at home then" Kushi said looking at Arnav again. Her eyes had gone cold and she was not happy with him.
"Fine" Aranv said as he stormed off to the car.
Kushi had refused Rohith's invitation for lunch after Arnav left and once she had finished her work, she had decided to that she need some clarity. She decided to go to the Mandir and hoped that she would feel a little better afterwards.
