I was shocked to read about the Rakhi Sawant-Mika episode.
More than what actually happened, the fact that such "news" could make it to page one of newspapers left me stunned! What's more, you have TV channels running silly polls and viewers frantically
sending text messages with their opinions. I don't think it deserved to be published/broadcast at all, considering the number of people who get molested and raped every day in our country.
Come to think of it, I don't know who's the culprit here — the media, for generating the hype, or the public, for wanting to lap up such stories.
The desire and desperation to get a peek into the lives of celebrities and starlets, indicates how voyeuristic we've become. And the fact that other deserving stories are pushed to the back pages only reflects how bored we are as a nation.
