The year 2011 has been full of ups and downs as whole. It was lucky for some, while unpropitious for some. In this, we lost some people who will ever be remembered in our hearts for their unforgettable works.
.Steve Jobs. [October 5, aged 56]
A visionary for many, Co-Founder of Apple in Silicon Valley Garage led forward the world's leading tech company and the mobile computing revolutions with some world wide popular devices one of them being iPhone, even though we hardly knew this person, it was one of the biggest losses of the year.
.Maqbool Fida Hussain. [June 9, aged 95]
'Picasso of India' as he was known by many, he influenced a whole new generation of Artists , he was one of the most eminent painters of India , despite many controversies. He died on June 5, following a heart attack.
.Jagjit Singh. [October 10, aged 70]
Known as the Ghazal King of India, one of the most prominent Ghazal singers, composer, music director and activist. His last concerts before his death being at Nehru Science Centre (Mumbai) , Siri Fort Auditorium (New Delhi) , Noor Mahal, and Indian Public School (Dehradun)
.Bhimsen Joshi. [January 24, aged 88]
Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, a renowned vocalist in Hindustani Classical tradition , he was famous for his khayal form of singing, and was the recipient of Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian honour (awarded in 2008).
.Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi. [September 22, aged 70]
The Tiger Pataudi, the former Indian Cricket team captain, he was the son of the eighth Nawab of Pataudi. Father of Saif and Soha Ali Khan, he died of an acute lung infection.
.Bhupen Hazarika. [November 5, aged 85]
Origin of Assam, he was an Indian singer, lyricist, film maker, his songs were marked by universal brotherhood and humanity. He died of multi organ failure.
.Shammi Kapoor. [August 79, aged 79]
One of the most famous Indian actors in the last 1950s and 1960s, he has given us hits such as Rajkumar, Junglee, An Evening in Paris. Along with acting, he was one of the dancing heroes known for his unique dancing moves.
.Dev Anand. [December 3, aged 88]
One of the eminent Indian actors, and film director, his hits include Aandhiyan , Taxi Driver and House Number 44. He was the recipient of Padma Bhusan.
.Kim Jong-il. [December 17, aged 70]
Supreme Leader of North Korea, in April 2009, North Korea's constitution was amended to refer to him implicitly as the "supreme leader".
.Elizabeth Taylor. [March 23, aged 79]
Dame Elizabeth Rosemond "Liz" Taylor, one of the well-known British-American actresses. National Velvet being her first success, she went on to star in films like Giant, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Suddenly, Last Summer and many others.
