Bollywood's Biggest Flops of 2011

We saw Bollywood's biggest hits of the year yesterday.

Here come the ones that failed to create magic at the box office. Stars and big banners don't necessarily ensure hits and some of the movies that figure on the list were proof of that.

Check out the top ten!

1. Patiala House

Patiala House was a story set in London about an Indian underdog fighting racism and identity issues.

While the theme was cliched, Nikhil Advani's poor screenplay and direction failed to bowl over the audience too. The only saving grace in the film was Akshay Kumar who came out of his comedy avatar to work in a serious role, which was worth a watch.

Anees Bazmee's Thank You seemed more like an extension of his earlier film No Entry.

Akshay Kumar, Irfaan Khan, Bobby Deol and Suneil Shetty formed the male cast of the film while Sonam Kapoor and Co. pranced around in the background.

The humour was in bad taste and the plot absurd enough to ensure that moviegoers stayed away from theatres.

Next

Pankaj Kapur's directorial debut had his son Shahid Kapoor paired opposite Sonam Kapoor in an outdated melodrama.

A never-ending love saga, disastrous performances by its lead actors and a half-baked idea landed the film in rough weather.

Next

Delhi Belly's director Abhinay Deo got off to a disastrous debut with a whodunit murder mystery film Game.

Abhishek Bachchan, along with Kangana Ranaut and a few others came together in a stupid film about murder, gambling, gangsters and their fight for survival.

An adaptation of Ruskin Bond's Susanna's Seven Husbands, Vishal Bhardwaj's 7 Khoon Maaf takes us into a dark, unexplored territory of a disturbed individual, highlighting the main protagonist's fetish for killing her husbands.

Priyanka Chopra looked convincing in her character but what could have been a gripping film about greed and lust turned out to be a damp squib.

Next

This odd comedy caper starring Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgn couldn't be salvaged even by relentless skin-show by leading ladies Kangna Ranaut and Lisa Hayden.

There's only so many laughs you can invoke at the expense of a popular author and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's films.

All the VFX and marketing jamboree didn't really help the most-awaited film of the year.

Made on a staggering budget, Shah Rukh Khan's superhero film Ra.One failed to take flight at the box office.

Movie poster of Desi Boyz
Next

It wasn't a good year for Akshay Kumar.

The actor, along with costar John Abraham, showed off his body while leading ladies Deepika Padukone and Chitrangada Singh smouldered in every frame in Desi Boyz.

But the film didn't do as well as the makers had hoped it would.

Movie poster of Aarakshan
Next

Prakash Jha's multi-starrer Aarakshan dealt with the follies of reservation in the Indian education system and attracted a lot of media attention for its controversial theme.

But the film turned out to be disappointing in terms of content and treatment.

Performances by Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone didn't stir the audience enough to take them to the theatres.

More

Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma followed up their impressive performances in last year's surprise hit Band Baja Baraat with another Yashraj film -- Ladies v/s Ricky Bahl.

But the team couldn't replicate the success of the previous film.

IMO Patiala House wasnt bad if they had completely removed Akshay's extended family. I didnt find Aarakshan all that bad either. The end was stupid and the director didnt take a proper stand.
Thank You was horrible. Rascals promos were pathetic and embarrassing to women. Not surprisingly it tanked as it deserved to. Rest of the movies seemed crap from the promos too. Ra1 will probably go down as the biggest mistake in SRK's career in many ways. He only got flak out of it. But economic-wise it wasnt as big a flop as the rest of the movies listed here. I think even Aarakshan and Desi Boys were able to break even.

Akshay Kumar paid the highest advance taxes this year too.

He will be the highest paid actor next year too..with 5 movies releasing next year.

His films are worth 400 crores next year about double the Khans accorrding to Midday and Hiren Kotwani is a pretty senior journalist(unlike Divya Unny who writes utter crap).

Akshay's last hit year was 2008 with Singh is King..since then it is a downward spiral..

Producers are making money..He gets an average of 23-25 from Satellite channels..Viewers enjoy his films on TV I guess..

He is laughing all the way to the bank..because he is disciplined, works hard and has a loyal group of people who stand by him..
