Part 26:
As Sheila left, Khushi noticed that Arnav looked really tired. She slowly got up and took his hand in both of hers, apprehension written all over her face, as she said, "Come. . . ."
Arnav looked away, but got up from his chair to follow her, and she took him to his apartment above his place. As he opened the door, and entered the place, they both stood and remembered all the good times they had had here.
"This is the first time I'm coming here after you. . . . ." Arnav trailed off.
"Left." Khushi completed it for him, and sighed as she turned to him, "Why don't you go and freshen up? I'll prepare some coffee..."
Arnav nodded and left. Khushi wandered throughout the apartment. Standing by the bed, she couldn't help but blush and smile to herself. She went to the living room to find Arnav resting his head against the couch, and one of his hands rubbed the nape of his neck. Khusi stood behind him, and helped him in that. Though Arnav stiffened at the first contact and removed his hand from below hers, he sat upright so that her hands had more access.
Khushi smiled as she started to massage the knotted muscles of his shoulder. She found him relaxing more and more into her hands, and finally he sighed and let go, as she bent and kissed the nape of his neck. "I'll get you your coffee. . . ." She said, as she left.
Inside the kitchen, she remembered all those moments when he used to follow her and hug her from behind, and a sad smile appeared on her face. She prepared coffee and sat next to him as they drank it in silence, Arnav's eyes on Khushi the whole while, and Khushi looking nowhere in particular.
As soon as they finished their coffee, they left. Arnav was about to get out of the car, after pulling up in the driveway, when Khushi called him. Arnav looked at her and Khushi took his face in her hands, and pulled him nearer to kiss his forehead, as she murmured "I love you. . ." against his forehead, before she got out of the car and walked into Shantivan.
Arnav stared at the retreating figure of Khushi and smiled, before he went in too.
Khushi's parents were there, and it was an emotional scene to watch, which Arnav thought would pass, as he sauntered to his study, thinking of designing the bridesmaid dresses for the Sheila Khanna wedding.
Within an hour or so, he had designed a perfect dress for Khushi, the Maid of Honor, and a more blander version of the same dress for the other Bridesmaids. It was easier to design a dress for his Khushi since he knew exactly what would look good on her, and what he'd like to see her in.
He quickly mailed the copies of all the dresses to Aman, and ordered him to get the dresses ready within two days.
As he stood at the door leading to his room, he turned towards Khushi's room, and decided to see her once, before going to sleep. The door was open a crack, so he entered to see Khushi sleeping in between her parents.
Arnav smiled as he came out of her room silently and entered his room. He changed into a trackpant, not bothering about a shirt. He came out of the washroom to find Khushi perched at the edge of his bed.
"Did you want to say something?" Khushi asked, as her eyes involuntarily roamed all over his chest and abs. "I just wanted to say good night." Arnav answered, as he smirked to himself at her reaction of seeing his bare torso.
"Haaan??" Khushi asked, as her dazed eyes returned to his eyes. Arnav walked towards her, and she got off the bed to stand up too.
Arnav ran the back of his hand on her cheek, as he said, "Good night, Khushi."
Khushi closed her eyes, as she swayed, and put her hand on his chest to support herself. Arnav all but groaned, when he saw this. But he simply took her hand and kissed it once. Khushi smiled and sighed as she wished him good night and left too.

She was about to leave, when Arnav called her. "Are you busy?" he asked. He had been restless the whole two days, as he hadn't seen her for almost 36 hours, what with him busy with the Khanna wedding. Now he decided it was a bad idea to avoid Khushi.
Khushi, without giving a second thought about her interview, said "Of course not. Why?"
"Can you come over?" He asked, his voice sounded hesitant, and Khushi smiled as she answered, "Sure. See you soon. . ." He told her to come to his apartment before ending the call.
Khushi stood at the door of his apartment, and watched him staring out of the window. As soon as he felt her, Arnav covered the distance between them in three long strides before he took her in his arms in a bear hug. Burying his head at her neck, and sweeping her off her feet. Khushi felt so happy, that tears sprang from her eyes, which she controlled with much difficulty.
As he let her go, she didn't even ask him what this sudden hug was about in a fear that she may spoil the moment! He stood with his arms around her waist and eyes on her, as she played with the buttons of his shirt, and refused to meet his eyes.
"Come. . . ." He took her to the bedroom, an arm still around her waist. He showed her Sheila's dress, which was neatly laid on the bed, and earned a gasp. The tears which were threatening her all along, came out as she stared at it.
"Hey Devi Maiyya!!" She gasped as she ran a hand across it. Arnav smiled as he stood next to her, by the bed, and realized she was still not ready to leave Devi Maiyya alone, even for the simplest of things!!
And he pulled out the dress which the Maid of Honor, that is, Khushi would wear for the wedding. Khushi put both her hands to cover her mouth, and after a second, complained, "I will catch everybody's attention now. What will poor Sheila think??!!"
Arnav frowned as he thought, 'If she feels inferior to you, which she should, its her problem to deal with!!' But he answered, "She can think whatever she wants!!"
Khushi smiled as she stood up on the bed, to put her arms around his neck. He took a step closer so that he had to lift his head just a little to look into her eyes. She bent forward, and murmured a thank you against his lips, before he started kissing her hungrily.
His ringing cell phone disturbed them, and they broke apart, "Yes Ms. Khanna. . . . . Yes they're all ready. If you could come over for the fitting. . . . ."
"She's coming. Will you help her with the dress?" he asked as he cut the call. And Khushi smiled as she nodded. "Why are you wearing such formal clothes??" Arnav asked, noticing for the first time, the clothes she was wearing. Khushi looked flustered for a second before she answered, "Just like that. . ." And she took the Bride's dress with her, downstairs.
Arnav noticed Khushi's bag and was about to take it downstairs with him, when her cell phone started ringing. He took it out of her bag and received the call, "Hello. Mrs. Khushi Singh Raizada?" asked a voice.
"Umm. . . No. . . This is her uhh. . . Husband. Arnav Singh Raizada. May I know who's speaking?" He asked, feeling smug about being called Khushi's husband by a complete stranger for the second time within the past three days. First the RJ, and now this lady on the phone.
"She had scheduled an interview with us, Sir. She had even confirmed it this morning. I just wanted to know whether she'd be coming or not." the lady asked him politely.
'She had an interview?! That is why she was dressed formally!' he thought and answered, "Let me just make her call you back, okay?"
He hurried downstairs to the dressing room, where she probably waited for Sheila. She was examining the gold patterns on the fabric when he said, "You lied to me!"
Khushi looked up at him in surprise, "When??" she asked.
"You had an interview! Why didn't you tell me so?!" Arnav asked, his voice showing his anger.
Khushi put aside the dress and stood up. Not at all liking to see him angry, she went to stand in front of him, and put a hand on his chest, "I can't work there Arnav. It requires continuous sitting, which I cannot do." she said calmly.
"Then why fix up the interview? Are you telling me, you hadn't thought of it before you called them??" Arnav challenged her.
"I had thought I'd just face the interview. . . . ." Khushi said in a small voice, as she traced the patterns on his tie. When she looked up to see his face, she saw that he was frowning.
Khushi looked at him curiously, and he replied, "This is not how its meant to be! You cannot let me come in between you and your career!!"
"Relax!! Earlier, I wanted a job because I wanted to help Babuji with my wedding!! Now I have loads of money, after I sold everything I got from my dad. . . . So it isn't like I HAVE to work anymore. . . ." Khushi tried to calm him down, as she hugged him.
They heard someone clear their throat and they pulled away to see Sheila standing near the door. "I hope I'm not interrupting anything!!" She said in her usual excited voice. "Oh! Go away!!" Arnav muttered, as he looked at Khushi irritatedly. Khushi barely stopped herself from smiling as she gave a stern "Behave!" to Arnav.
Khushi ushered Sheila to a changing room after bearing the Oohs and Aahs about the dress from her good-naturedly, and came back to Arnav who had been watching her all the time.
"What's with the sudden love towards Sheila Khanna?" Arnav whispered to her, looking genuinely curious.
"She's kinda good person. . . . More like a child. . . . ." Khushi said, a distant look entering her eyes, remembering how he hadn't still called her 'child' after they had got back together.
Arnav was about to say, "Look who's talking!!", when he bit the insides of his cheek to stop himself from telling that. Khushi looked at him, as if she was expecting something. When nothing happened, she sighed and went to the changing room to help Sheila.
As Arnav looked at the disappointed figure of Khushi moving away, he decided enough was enough. It was high time he moved to the present, forgetting the past. . . . . . . . . . . .
