Two years ago he wanted to be a singer and participated in 'Indian Idol'. He made it to the top ten finalists. But he was also the first contestant to be voted out by viewers. However, Ekta was pretty impressed with his looks, performance and presentation style, though not much with the quality of his voice. A call came from Balaji and Amit didn't waste any time in saying yes to play the second lead in Kaisa Yeh Pyaar Hai. After being in love with Kripa who is in love with Angad for one and half years, Amit has entered another Balaji daily, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. He is part of the fourth generation in the serial's time leap that happened last week. "If you are doing films then Yashraj Films is the right banner to work for. But if you are doing television then Balaji is the place to be in. The shows are grand and popular. Your work doesn't go unnoticed. After all, money talks," says Amit who plays Karan and Tanya's son Manthan in Kyunki. "Manthan is a spoilt brat, arrogant, smart and disrespectful to his cousins. He thinks he is different and believes that he stands out in the crowd. Ekta said this the best role in the new generation series." Certainly Amit has no reason to disbelieve her. "She knows what works and what doesn't and which character is important and the height of popularity it will reach." His dream of being a singer is part of the past now. But he has not snapped ties with singing. "I am a much better singer now," he smiles. And Ekta hasn't ignored his singing talent. "I have sung situational songs in Kya Hoga Nimmo Ka and Kavyanjali. And I also hope to sing for Balaji's other shows as well as Ekta's films in future," says Amit who feels his entry in Kyunki will bring him greater name and fame. "This is a big show and it is very popular. The new generation will bring in freshness to the story that will lead to more viewership." With Kaisa Yeh Pyaar Hai winding up in another two months he is looking forward to playing the lead in two Balaji shows over the next six months. "Kaisa Yeh Pyar Hai is a love story and a love story doesn't have a long life. Besides there were TRP problem that plague the serial," says Amit whose forthcoming serial is also a love story that has him playing a lover boy whose love doesn't go unreciprocated. But isn't he thinking big of working in films? After all, Balaji is also into film production. "Right now I am concentrating on television to consolidate my career. Doing films is every actor's dream. But everything has its own time. I don't want to rush and end up as a failure. It's better to go step by step," says Amit who calls himself a Balaji boy. |
