From the moment she first fell into his arms, he resisted. Deeply ingrained suspicion, and mistrust towards the world at large, born at a time when his heart had still been young, innocent, free, and had taken root over the years, twisting, coiling around that vital part of him, till it ensured he did nothing else except distrust, everyone and everything the world had to offer. But, he sensed immediately that this one girl, with the pretty smile, and trusting eyes, would test his resistance. And, she did not only that, she challenged it as well. Fate threw them together, with a force that baffled him, made his insides churn with rage, and resentment. And, he fought, with all he was worth, to resist, to reject, to refuse the gift she unknowingly kept on offering.
She taught him much, in that brief time they kept colliding. She taught with kindness and empathy, sometimes impatience, and many times with her tears. They were lessons of truth and justice, of respect and grace. She taught him to understand and accept, to smile and to give. She taught him to feel.
And, just as he began to feel, the coils snapped. He felt them recoiling, freeing him to enter a world he'd always been afraid of. He stepped into it, victorious, content, marveling. And, then she stepped away.
He was lost. Bewildered, he looked around, fearful, wondering why. Why she didn't still hold his hand, and walk alongside him, in this beautiful place she had led him to. And, the anger began to burn once more, till a lesson she had taught him, reminded him to try and understand. So, he looked beyond himself, and watched her, observing carefully. He saw that she was not done, that he had been just one more duty she must fulfil, and others waited for her. But, he could not allow her to go, because he needed her more than they did, more than they ever could, for they were of this world, and he was not. He needed his guide. He turned back, selfish in his purpose, at first, then understanding that there was more, much more for him to do here. She was why he was here, and she needed him too.
