Chapter 13 - Revealed

The doctor removed his hand from Amelia's forehead after checking her thoroughly He handed a small piece of paper to Madhuri.
Amelia lay in her small bed, unconscious but her fits had stopped. Geet stood beside Madhuri, who sat on a chair by Amelia's bed. Yash stood a few feet away from Geet, with Maan loitering in the doorway, his arms crossed.

"Administer her the medicine twice a day for her fever. Her epileptic fits aren't frequent from what you told me, so she should be fine for now. Any further problems, please do let me know."

"Thank you so much, doctor," Madhuri said. The doctor stood up, nodded at Maan who blinked once in return & headed out of the room.

Geet reached over to touch Amelia's forehead. She was burning with a fever so hot the heat was felt even before Geet had placed her hand on her head.

"Get well soon angel," Geet whispered. She turned back to Madhuri. "I want to stay with her."

"As you wish," Madhuri replied. She too looked worried, but was aware there was plenty of work to be done. Geet turned back to Amelia, not noticing the cold look Madhuri had shot Maan as he stepped inside the room to let her pass.

Yash meekly followed, avoiding Maan's gaze.

Geet was aware of his presence in the room yet she chose to ignore him.

"Geet, can we-"

"I think you should leave," she cut him off, her back still to him as she could feel his gaze bore into her. "I don't want Amelia to wake up. She needs to rest."

She waited, holding her breath until she heard his footsteps leave the room, before letting out a exasperated sigh.

It was time for Amelia to take her medicine. She had been asleep for the past 8 hours, & Geet decided it was time to wake her up.

She decided to get a glass of water for her. Geet made her way downstairs to the kitchen, a glass already in her hand, yet stopped when she heard slightly raised voices.

"...The way you behave is disgusting."

"Then ignore my behaviour."

Geet's breath caught in her mouth as she realised it was Madhuri & Maan in the midst of an argument. She stopped just outside of the door, making sure she wouldn't be seen.

"You treat her like she is something from the bottom of your shoe," Madhuri's tone was angry, hurt & accusatory.

"The way I treat her has nothing to do with you," Maan's tone was bitter, cold & annoyed.

"It had everything to do with me. I raised that little girl up. It breaks my heart when I see-"

"Don't go any further," Maan snapped, turning away from Madhuri. Geet shifted further into the shadows as she could see his gaze focused on the floor, his face contorted in anger.

"When I see her own father disowning her."

The glass from Geet's hand dropped.

"What was that?" Madhuri asked as Maan quickly made his way to the door. He stepped out of the kitchen to see Geet's figure disappear as she ran out of the doors & down the stairs.

"Geet!" he called as he ran after her. Madhuri rushed out of the kitchen, spoon in her hand as she realised Geet had overheard.

"Geet!"

Her legs weren't strong enough for her to escape the lithe Maan, who had easily caught up with her. She could sense him, feel his presence as he walked a few feet behind her. She carried on walking.

"Geet, wait!"

"Don't come near me!" she turned around, raising a finger in warning to him as she stormed off again.

Irritated by her lack of patience to hear him out, Maan ran past Geet & stopped right in front of her, grabbing her shoulders. Geet gasped as he pulled her closer to him, his face mere inches away from her own.

"Let. Me. Explain," he bit out.

"There is nothing to explain. Nothing apart from the fact that you're a cold hearted, weak, pathetic individual who can't even... you can't even acknowledge your own daughter."

"You don't know anything about this."

"And I don't want to know. I know enough already. Not even an animal would treat their own offspring the way you treat her. She trembles in terror when you walk into a room! I bet you threatened her. You must have threatened the girl, a poor helpless girl who is ill, both physically & emotionally. She just wants someone to love her. That someone should be you, Mr Khurana, but your ego & pride has been hurt too much for you to-"

"How do you expect me to consider that creature as my daughter when I'm not even certain if she is or not?"

Geet frowned. "What do you mean?"

A chill ran down her spine as Maan stepped even closer, dipping his head so that he whispered in her ear. "I meant it when I said you know nothing, nothing, about this."

Geet heard Madhuri and Maan's talk and she is shattered to know that Maan hates his daughter...when he will reveal his past then only it will be known that whether he is right in his actions or not...right now it is very pleasing to see that he went to clarify himself to Geet...
