Chapter 55
Maan simply walked to the balcony and handed over the phone to Geet and she said, "Kaun hain?"
Maan angrily yelled, "Teir hone waali saans. Karo karo baat karo".
Daadima smirked while Geet took the phone puzzled.
"Hello", she said, softly.
"Geet" came Daadima's voice.
"Ji aap Daadima", said Geet, smiling.
"Ji aap Daadima", mocked Maan, trying to imitiate her. She shot him a serious look and he made a face at her and walked away, into the bedroom.
"Geet, come and meet me before you go home", she told her.
"Sure Daadiji. How could I go without meeting you", she asked.
She hung up on the phone and looked for Maan, in the bedroom he was not around. She wondered where he had gone.
She walked out of the room, when she heard him open the door of his walk-in closet.
"Geet", he called out and she turned around to face him.
"Ji", she said.
"Ho gayi baat?", he asked.
"Ji nahin. Abhi humne break liya", she said, rolling her eyes, "Obviously ho gayi. Wouldn't my phone be closer to my ear if I were speaking?", she asked.
"How would I know how you women communicate?", he said.
"Yeah whatever", she said.
"Accha okay, whatever. Come in now", he said.
"No, I guess I should leave. Have to meet Daadima before I go home and I have to be on time for the pooja and may be a little in advance so that I could help Nihu with the arrangements too", she said.
"Ok Ok. I understand. But I swear I will not take more than a few minutes", he said, assuringly. She walked in, lazily and walked towards him.
Maan was standing with his hands folded across his chest. He smiled looking at her and she smiled back.
"Kya hua?", she asked.
He took a deep breath and showed her a small red box that was placed on his palm.
"Happy Diwali, Geet", he said, softly.
"Yeh mere liye?", she asked.
Maan rolled his eyes and said, "Geet, mujhe har baath pe taana marna accha nahin lagta. So please".
"Maan", she screamed.
"I have a box on my palm. Moreover, you are the only one here. So, obviously it has to be for you right?", he said, and Geet was about to say something, when he raised his tone, "I would not need your advice and comments if I were giving it to someone else, so that question does not arise".
"That confident about your choice, Mr. Khurana?", she asked, raising her eye-brow.
"Yes Ms. Handa. I, very carefully choose things and people", he said, with a lopsided smile.
"Alright", she said and took the box from him and opened it. She found a pair of "M" shaped diamond ear-rings and Maan looked at her changing expressions- first from being amazed to being happy and then a question mark.
"Do you like them?", he asked, softly. Geet blankly looked up at him.
"When did you get these?", she asked.
"Geet, you are expected to give an answer to my question, not question me back", he said, "And by the way, when I got these, is immaterial right now. So just tell me, do you like it or not?"
"I think these are amazing", she said, running to the mirror already to see how they would look on her. He walked to the mirror and stood behind her, to see how she would look. She wore them on, and looked at him, through the mirror.
"Perfect", he said.
"Yep, just like you", she said, smiling.
"Hmm, good you like them", he said, placing his hands on her shoulders and moving closer to her to get a better look. He pushed her hair to her left and saw the earring on the right.
"Nice", he said. She smiled and almost jumped up the next minute when he kissed her ear. He stood up straight, looked at her, and smirked. She composed herself and took some time to comprehend what had happened.
"Thanks", she said.
"For the earrings or the kiss?", he asked.
She turned towards him and his hands automatically went around her waist. She held him closer and rested her head on shoulder.
"I think for both", she said, softly.
"Geet don't blush. It gets harder for me", he said, softly.
"What is harder?", she asked, even softly.
He cupped her face in his palms; "To get away without hurting you" he said and winked. She looked away from him.
"I have to leave", she said, softly, "Im getting late".
Maan moved back immediately and she looked at him.
"You okay?", she asked.
"Ofcourse. What would happen to me?", he asked, sounding perfectly normal.
"I thought you were angry because I said I had to leave", she said.
"Nope. You have to come back to me, no matter where you go. So, its completely fine", he said, confidently. Geet was stunned at the confidence in his voice. She felt happy with the way he sounded.
"thanks once again", she said and hugged him. he hugged her back. "Bye", she said, softly.
"Bye", he said.
She walked out of his room and straight to Daadima's room. she spoke to Daadima for sometime and later told her that she would have to leave.
Daadima walked to her closet and came back with two bags.
"This is for you and your friend Niharika", she said, handing over the bags.
"Now what is this Daadiji?", she asked, and "why all this?"
"Ahaan , when Maan gave you a gift, you did not ask him why he was giving it to you. So why do you ask me?", she said, smiling.
"How do you I did not ask him?", she asked.
"I dunno. I feel there were no disputes about his gift as you are wearing them on", said Daadima, looking at her ears.
Geet felt her ears and realized she had left her old earrings on his table and had forgotten to put them back. She realized his kiss had done all this, and now she was wearing the new earrings.
"Woh actually", she said and paused.
"You don't have to explain sweetheart", said Daadima, smiling.
Geet looked into the bag and found a kurti and a bracelet that would match with the kurti. She looked into the other bag and found the same combination but with a different kurti and bracelet.
"Now you kids decide which one you want to take", said Daadima.
"Daadiji, thank you so much but'" and stopped again.
"Geet, I understand your question. I got Naintara, Kiara the same type of stuff, as I find out you girls like Kurti and accessories a lot. I had found these two really nice and different, and I remembered the both of you, so got them for you and Niharika", she explained.
Geet was still not convinced. She would not understand why Daadi would have to gift Niharika something when they had not even met each other formally. But since she did not have much time to argue and since she knew there would be no point arguing with Daadiji, she simply accepted the gift, took her blessings and went away home.
It was night and Niharika came into her bedroom. she found Geet, lying down on the bed and said, "Everything went well, know".
"Yeah", said Geet.
"GEEt, I still don't think I should take this gift. Why would Daadiji give me a gift? I think I should talk to her", she said.
"We'll go tomorrow", said Geet, not wanting to talk about it anymore.
"Yeah, if I cannot give it back atleast I should thank her, right", she said.
"Yeah", said Geet, staring at the ceiling.
"Tujhe kya hua? Har baath pe yeah yeah karti jaa rahin hain?", asked Niharika.
"Yaar pata nahin. So Jao na. Mujhe kuch bhi bolna ka mann nahin hain", she said.
"Theek hain madam. Good night", said Niharika and fell onto the bed. She put her earphones and started listening to the radio on her phone. Geet turned the other side and reminisced the moment Maan had kissed her.
"So gaye?", she texted him.
"No", he texted back.
"What you doing?", she asked.
"Do you want to know the truth or are you in a mood for a lie?", he asked.
"Lie", she replied.
"Want to have you in my arms right now", he replied.
"Mr. Khurana, is that a lie? Then what is the truth?", she texted back.
"The truth is that I lied about the lie and the lie is actually the truth", he typed and laughed at his statement. He sent the message and Geet read it. She re-read it again and texted him back.
"Thanks for confusing me and making me use my brain at his time of night".
"Geet, don't talk about the night. Gives me weird ideas you know ;-)", he replied.
Geet blushed and bit her tongue and asked mischievously,"What ideas?"
"I'm sorry Im too lazy to type it all out. I don't believe in words you see, I believe in actions", he replied.
Geet almost fell off the bed. She did not know what to reply for quite sometime. she closed her eyes and held the phone close to her heart and Maan did the same thing too.
Luckily, for them, the next day was a Sunday.
Maan walked to the breakfast table at around 8am.
Kiara pounced at him with questions, "Bro what are your plans? All of us are going to the farmhouse. DO you wanna join us? We'll leave now and come back in the night after dinner", she said.
"I have a couple of phone calls, darling. Why dint you tell me before?", he said, picking up a toast, from the plate in front of him.
"Oh veerji, you can take them later", she said.
"Nope. Have been postponing them for quite some time now, because of other work. I have to take them today", he said.
"Ohhh", sighed Kiara., "Now what?"
"What can be done? Lets leave Maan here and go", said Daadima, "May be he can join us after he finishes the calls", she added.
"Yep that s a good idea", said Maan.
"Par Bro, aap baad mein nahin aayenge. You're too lazy that way, bro", she cribbed.
"Baby, I promise. I will be there once if I finish my calls by 2pm", he said.
"Ok lets see", she said, and all of them had breakfast. they got ready and headed off to the farmhouse. Geet came to the mansion for Daadima, but Nakul told her that she had gone out. Maan was sitting in the living room and asked, "Kaun hain?"
"JI, geet madam", said Nakul.
Maan gestured him to ask her to come in.
"Maan", she said, "Mujhe Daadiji se milni thi".
"Hmmm, farmhouse gaye hain sab", he said, looking though some files in his laptop.
"I see, aap nahin gaye, kyun?"
"Kaam hain Geet. Had some calls to make", he said.
"Oh ok", she said. "Niharika was supposed to come to meet Daadiji too, in sometime. I guess I'll call her and tell her that she should just get back home and that I'd meet her there".
"Yeah", came Maan's answer, still looking busy. Geet called Niharika and informed her that Daadiji was not in the mansion.
"SO how come she did not come along?", he asked, looking into some papers now.
"Niharika had to meet one of her cousins, who came from B'lore unexpectedly for Diwali. She asked me to come, but I told her I would go and spend that time with Daadiji ", she said.
"Ok", he said.
"You do your work Maan. You sound busy", she said.
"No, you can sit here for some time. I'll be done with this mess"
Geet sat and watched TV for sometime, in the guest bedroom that was once supposed to her bedroom during her stay at the mansion. She switched off the TV and decided to sleep, since the heavy breakfast she had was making her feel drowsy.
She texted Maan, "Let me know once you're done. I'm sleeping for sometime".
It was almost 30 mins past 4.
Geet turned around to the other side of the bed and felt something hard. She then felt being pulled into someone, and inhaled the cologne. Her eyes opened slowly and she found Maan sleeping beside her, with a gap of just a few centimeters between the both of them.
He looked at her and she rubbed her eyes. She moved away a little and said, "I'll be back".
He nodded and she got off the bed. She then came back after fifteen minutes, looking fresh.
"Calls done?", she asked, sitting on the bed. Maan pulled her back to their previous position.
"Haan, just a few minutes back", he said.
"Going to the farmhouse?", she asked.
"Nope, its too late now", he said. Maan pushed her hair behind her eyes and kissed her forehead.
"Mr. Khurana you're closeness, is disturbing me", she said, softly, breathing hard.
"Don't get worried", he said, "I know my limits".
She hid her face in his shirt and kissed his neck. He pulled her closer and held her by her waist. His hands rested on her bare waist and that sent electric jitters down her spine.
"Maan", she said, very softly, wondering if he even heard her.
"Geet, I'm starting to like you way too much", he said.
"And you are starting to scare me a little too much", she said.
"Geet are you the same Geet who stood courageously in front of me and told me you loved me?", he asked.
"I think so. But that situation is different from this", she said, gesturing with her eyes, how close they were.
"Geet, face the situation, no matter how different it is", he said.
She did not say anything. She only held him and he felt her uneasiness.
He backed off immediately and said, "If you're not okay with the proximity that's fine".
He moved away from her and slept a little away from her on the bed. She smiled. She was about to tell him something when he got a call. He answered the call and continued talking for quite sometime. She continued to stare at him and suddenly got up and bent towards him.
He looked at her bent over him and she quickly brushed her lips against his and fell back on the bed. Maan did not react too much. He simply finished his call and turned to look at her. She looked back bravely into his eyes.
"What was that?", he asked.
"I dunno", she said.
"You're confusing Geet", he said.
"You're right Maan. I'm so stupid in being uneasy with your closeness. Shouldn't I be trusting you more?", she asked.
"Its going to take some time", he said, calmly.
"I realized it is dangerous for me to shift back to the mansion", she said, winking.
"Oh yes, you're going to have a tough time trying to resist me", he said, with a lopsided smile. "You lose your control pretty soon".
"Maan", she said, angrily but started laughing. He laughed too.
She took a deep breath and pulled him closer. He did not waste anytime, from the look of her eye. He simply took her lips into his.

ALright, that's it for now. Now I'm off to bed. And you guys dont dream too much. Continue doing your work. 😆
