really? that is really amazing varshini. I am just writing it as it comes to my mind. my friend did have an inter religion marriage but they did not have any twist, it was smooth and I was not with her to know the details. I wish everyone has a happy ending to their love story. it is sad that social norms seem more important than love between two people. I wish whoever you are talking about to have a happy ending as well 😛. wish them luck :).
Part 7 .
Both Arohi and Arjun experienced a never ending night. As the clock struck 12 Arohi cried some more, while arjun left out a sigh. For good or bad they had taken a decision and they would stick by it. He knew for arohi it will be tougher. He put his hands behind his head and rested on the pillow. The way she buttoned up his shirt earlier, the way she asked him not to look at any girl, the way she kissed before going in , he had a smile, that was what he will remember about their meet. If only she was next to him now, he would have told her what all that meant to him, how cute she looked all the time.
She had cried herself to sleep and woke up when the sun was high. Her dad had left already. It was just her mom and her. She wanted to talk to her brother, but still did not call him. He was supposed to come in couple of days, she can talk with him then. Somehow she felt all alone, that noone was there for her. and the one person who would die to be with her was forced to be away. It was going to be a long day, a long year.
She had a dream that arjun came to tell her something, he told her something, all she could remember was that he looked like he was going somewhere and she was waving goodbye.
He had a dream as well . 'yeah sneekers aur yeh bags?' she asked looking at him all ready to leave . 'haan US jaa raha hoon, yeh mera address aur number' he put his hand across that held some unique kind of paper. 'utna dur' 'lekin tumse dur nahi' 'main bhi aati hoon tumhare sath' 'iss baar nahi, next time' 'next time kab hoga' 'bahut jald, hmmm 365 days ke baad' 'utne din' 'main kal bolne wala hu office mein ki jaaunga' 'toh? main jaane nai dongi' she grabbed his bag and walked in opposite direction he had no choice but to go with her, sapne mein bhi mujh par roph chalati hai , he thought still in the dream.
Arjun told his boss he was willing to go to US for the 2 year project but he will complete one year and will be back and then will decide if he wants to go back. Everything was settled, since he had told them at last minute and he already had the visa, he had to leave the next day along with Prakash. He came home early to make sure he had everything. His mother was busy making snacks and stuff and packing for him so he doesnt have to worry for a few months and miss her food. He really didnot know if he will be able to eat and drink properly, without her everything would seem bland. But not wanting to discourage his mother he silently let her pack the way she wanted. He wrote down Arohi's number and address and kept it under the telephone. 'Yeh agar bahut zaroorat padi, ya phir ek saal baad mein vapas nai aa saka kisi bhi vajah se , toh arohi ka number aur address isme hai' before his mother could question what he meant by 'nai aa saka toh' rehan had come 'arjun bhai suna ki kal US ku ja re aap, kuch madad karana, luggage vuggage leke jana, main mustaq ki taxi bulaku laatu, kitte baje jaa re?'. Arjun went out with him, leaving his mom worried.
Arohi felt a strange fear all day. She prayed that arjun should be safe all the time. When she took his name a flower from the idol fell to the right, earlier she took such superstitions lightly, and thot it is just coincidence that good things will happen etc. but now she felt happy, suddenly she felt calm. A day had started only 364 more to go , she wrote the number down in her book .
Arjun was ready to leave. He took his parents blessings and left to the airport. He saw a city bus going towards Dilsukhnagar, where she lived, how he wished he went along with it. 'jaake aata hoon' he told her silently, visualising her waving her hand to him. Last time too when he had gone they could not say goodbye, this time also they could not. only 364 more days to go he thot , as he walked towards checkin. Prakash was already there, his family had come to see him off. He had asked his parents not to come since it was a long ride outside the city. Both of them went towards security and then to the gate and then into the flight. and then up it went in the sky.
Arohi used to watch , wave and say happy journey at flights ,trains buses as a kid but had stopped as she grew older. For some reason today she just watched the sky as long a flight was visible, she felt a strange feeling, for some reason she just wished happy journey, just like her childhood habit. She shook her head and smiled, 'see without you I am turning crazy watching flights and saying goodbye like a kid , by the way what are you doing now' she wondered.
He was looking down at the city at that time going far away from it every passing minute. Soon it flew over the borders, over countries and sea , away fron his land his home his love whom he dearly wished to see. How nice it would have been if he was really able to tell her where he was going, if only he was allowed to contact her. may be she will come to know through prakash's family, if she talks to them anytime that will give him so much relief that she knows he is allright.
The flight finally landed in Chicago's O'hare airpot, after more than 20 hrs of travel. Arrangements had been made for their stay, as a collegue drove them to the apartments Arjun looked at 'the windy city'. It was still fall season , the trees displayed various vibrant colours ranging from pale green to bright orange to brown, on the way he observed allmost all houses had carved pumpkins , scarecrows in the front yard, some had put up wierd creatures, webs, to mark the halloween month. There were seasonal flowers blooming everywhere, he could see greenary as far as he could see. The complex his aparment was looked decent. They went around a pond that had two swans, several ducks and geese , along side a walking trail that had benches to sit. Taking another turn the car stopped. They each had a single bedroom apartment so had enough privacy. He made sure he was up until nightfall so he could get over the jetlag quickly. Time had shifted, her days were going to be his nights. They were miles apart, not able to contact still he felt she was just next to him. what would she be doing now. he wondered.
It was her morning, early morning and first thing she did was strike of the number and write a new number, 362 more days to go.
He slowly drifted into sleep. 'pata hai aaj kya hua' he heard her voice. 'kya hua' 'accha pehle yeh batao flight kaisi thi' 'tumhe kaise pata ki main yaha par aaya' 'are tumhine bataya tha ki tum ja rahe ho, bhul gaye?' 'hmm bataya toh tha, aur tumne sath aane ki jidd ki' 'aur tum lekar nai gaye' 'next time' 'okay, accha suno toh phir aaj kya hua' 'sun raha hoon na' 'subah se tumhare baare mien sochte baith gayi thi. pata hai abhi 362 days baaki hai?. Baad mein newspaper mein ek ad dekha , apna resume mail kar diya' 'good , phir follow up karna theek se' 'theek hai, aur tumne kya kiya' 'kuch nai , itne der flight mein tha ab apartment mein so gaya hoon' 'meri yaad nai aayi' 'kab karu' 'matlab' 'matlab airhostess ko dekhne mein busy tha tumhe kab yaad karu' 'maine kaha tha na kisiko dekhna nai' she frowned angrily. 'arey main jungle mein thodi hoon, kitna rude lagega nai dekha toh, woh itni sundar thi' 'accha sundar bhi thi, mujhse jyada?' she asked turning green . 'hmm ek minute phele yaad toh karlu tum kaise dikhti ho, 2-3 din hogaye , bhul gaya hoon' 'koi zaroorat nai, usi airhostess ko yaad karte baithna' 'ha haa, rooth gayi?' 'aur nai toh' 'sach batau' ' ' 'kisiko bhi kaise dekh sakta hoon , jab sabme sirf tum dikhti ho' 'lekin tumne toh bola woh bahut sundar thi' 'tum dikh rahi thi matlab, tum sundar thi' 'sach' 'sach sach' 'toh mujhe kyun sataya' 'aise hi bore ho raha tha isliye' 'hamesha mujhe tease karte rehte ho' she pouted, it continued for a while until he could remember.
Arohi had spent most of her day outside, she had got a call from the company she had applied few weeks back, about which she was telling arjun during their last meet. The interview went well. It was not too far from her house. Once done with that , she just took whichever bus that came and went with it, just to be alone for a while. Her eyes teared up instantly when she saw familiar areas, she was in his area, what if she sees him. May be he is in one of the shops. She narrowed her eyes to take a good look outside. She cannot miss him he stood out in the crowd. As the bus moved along, her hope to see him faded. At one point she thought she saw Rehan, she knew he was arjun's friend, before she confirmed and got up he disappeared into a galli. Someone was sitting behind rehan on the scooter, was that arjun, nah he looked slim, but may be arjun has gone down, may be he is not eating so well, it could have been him. She just sat in the bus until it reached the last destination and turned around again to go back to her place. All this while he was having that dream about her.
