Vaarali, welcome back!!!
The opening scene - the various scenes on earth - a pretty pristine earth @ that - was a beautiful representation of Bhumi Devi. Incidentally, I wondered whether she's unchanged from the actress that played her role during the Narakasura war. At any rate, they showed her pain by showing incidents like Sudama being beaten up by his ruler, the ruler being a drunken despot and flashbacks of Narakasura abducting women. And the way they showed her leave the earth and approach Brahma was awesome.
I was somewhat surprised @ Krishna telling JS that the Mahabharata war is going to happen soon. Also, ain't it a tad early to be talking about the Mahabharata war? Draupadi's not yet married, the game of dice has yet to happen, the house of lac is about to happen and so on.
After all, Yudhisthir ruled Indraprastha for some 16 years, if I recall right, then had 13 years of exile, and
after that there was the war. If the Pandavas have just returned from Gurukul, the Ekachakra incidents are yet to occur. Maybe now might be the time that Satrajit gets murdered. But then again, the CVs may not want to make Akrura a villain, even though for this incident, he was. At any rate, given where the story is now, there's plenty of time b4 they get to the war.
At
this stage, did Krishna do any of these things @ the behest of Kunti? I know that after the Pandava exile, he did, but not @ this stage. His first meeting w/ the Pandavas was @ Draupadi's swayamvara, and if they want to show him visit Hastinapur, then the timeline for it has already passed, since that happened after his marriage to Satyabhama, but b4 his other marriages. Anyway, so they've started it w/ Kunti brooding over who's going to rule Hastinapur?
One pun I noticed in the description of Bhumi Devi - embed naraka into her? 😆 I know she meant implant hell into her, but Naraka was also the son that was implanted into her by Hiranyaksha. So that seemed a double entendre on her part, particularly given that they had shown him 😆
They dramatized Kunti's writing of the letter, and Krishna's reading it. Devanagiri? Tut, tut! Also, was 'bua' the term used for father's sister in shudh hindi (yeah, yeah, I remember that BRC used that word only to describe how Krishna addressed Kunti) Also, Rukmini used a red fabric w/ gold ink, but Kunti, who too is from a royal family, could only manage a parchment like roll of paper? 😆
Shakuni's conversation w/ Dhritarashtra was strange, if he thinks that by bringing Krishna down, Kunti could have changed the balance of power. Dhritarashtra had on his side Bheeshma, Drona, Kripa, Ashwatthama, Bhurishrava and a whole host of allies within Hastinapur alone. And Krishna was not unrivalled - Jarasandha was still the paramount emperor, whom even Bheeshma hadn't been able to unseat. One thing - despite Gufi playing this role, this time it seems very different. The bizarre diamond shaped tilak that he wears, plus that huge black ring on his finger, make it very typically DBSK rather than BRC. 😆
So wonder whether Balarama would also go to Hastinapur w/ Krishna, and teach Duryodhan gada-yugh? In the original SB version, after Krishna resolved the syamantaka gem issue, Balarama went to Mithila and taught Duryodhan gada-yudh there.
P.S. Personally - and I think myself to be an overwhelmed minority on this - I happen to have a very strong distaste for Kunti. On one hand, she wanted her sons to be secure and succeed their father, but on the other, she did nothing short of ensuring that they were in mortal danger by not confessing early on who Karna really was. In those times, the chastity of women was put on a premium, and one of the potential reasons was that if a woman had a son from someone other than who her husband accepted (in this peculiar case), such a son could be a threat to the family. That's precisely what Karna turned out to be, and the sole reason for that was Kunti. After covering up Karna's identity, it was disingenuous of Kunti to want Krishna to secure her sons' future. I also have a real beef w/ her serving Dhritarashtra & Gandhari after the war, to the piont of accompanying them into exile: she should have spent her last days totally isolated b'cos of what she did to Karna.
