Story:
Tony (NTR) is a typical character who changes moods and colors as per the situation. He meets Niharika (Tamanna) in an awkward situation which leads to love. He falls in love with her and chases her day and night. He gets to know that she is already in love with someone, but chases her down till she falls in love with him. At this point the other side of him is revealed which gives us the answers for the unanswered. Actually he is on a mission to kill an entire mafia empire. Why does he do that? For whom does he work for? Watch the movie for answers.

Analysis:
Oosaravelli starts off on a high note with excellent intro scene of hero. The hero character is introduced in such a way that audience expects him to play mind games and wise tricks all the time. But the film turns out to be a love story after that hyped introduction. This part is dealt in an entertaining with NTR, Raghubabu, MS Narayana and Jayaprakash Reddy doing the honors of filling in fun moments. The real story will only start before interval and the interval scene has really come out well. The graph picks up suddenly and sets high expectations on the second half.

Second half will reveal about the hero's mission and why he has been under disguise. This part mostly deals with the heroine and it may not be liked by hardcore NTR fans. He goes missing for more than ten minutes and the film considerably slows down. Movie takes a serious turn and comedy takes the backseat. Director tried to force comedy in bits and pieces in the second hour but it didn't gel well.

Script wise, Oosaravelli is good barring few plot holes. But where it fails is with balancing NTR's mass image with the hero's characterization. Director had to sacrifice mind games and intelligent play for the sake of satisfying NTR fans, which didn't help the film much. On a whole Oosaravelli can be watched once for its entertaining first half, interesting plot and performances of the lead star cast.

Commercially it may suffer because of going against NTR image. NTR city based fans and youth may be satisfied to see him in a new avatar, but his core audience from the B and C centers will have too many complaints with the film.

Performances:
It is good to see NTR switching genres. He did a completely different role in this movie which is more of a lover boy and less of an action hero. He also tried comedy and underplayed the emotions. It is refreshing to see him in this movie. He has to keep a check on the weight as he is gaining few kilos. His dances in Dandia India are good.

Tamanna got a very good role and she excelled in it. Generally heroines don't get much scope in star heroes films. But this film is an exception and Tamanna lapped it up. She is gorgeous in few scenes.

Prakash Raj is routine. Jayaprakash and Raghubabu are funny. MS Narayana shared few laughs. Kick Shyam is brief and Rehaman is Okay. Sayaji Shinde's role is half baked. Harika (Payal Ghosh) gives a neat performance.

Technicalities:
Koratala Siva dialogues worked in places. On a whole lacked the necessary punch. Devi Sri Prasad's background score is fabulous. Two songs are very good. Rasool camera is one of the highlights of the movie. Action part is dealt well. There are few action scenes but are shot in an exciting fashion. Production values are rich.

Surender Reddy did well as a director to handle the script well. However, he is off balance at times as he is 'confused' to stick with the content or to go with NTR's mass image. He should have opted for a small hero instead of choosing a star for this script, which would have done wonders for him.

Final Word:

Don't expect a brand NTR film!

Oosaravelli Movie Rating: 3/5

Banner: Sri Venkateswara Cini Chitra

Review

Story

oosaravelli Tony (NTR) is a wily youngster who does illegal things for money. He falls in love with Niharika (Tamanna) during a freak incident. He keeps following her and proposing to her. But she is engaged to some other rich guy. Tony has a secret mission and he is in hot pursuit of somebody. The rest of the story is all about the love story between the lead pair and how Tony achieved his mission.

Artists Performance

oosaravelliNTR: NTR has shown inclination and flair to venture into the path less travelled with the character of Tony. He is very good in entertainment episodes where his fear turns into nightmare for the others (credit should be given for writing team as well). His dialogues are different in this movie. He gave the much needed massy dialogue in the climax episode. His performance in the flashback episode is excellent.

oosaravelliOthers: Tamanna has done an important role in the movie. Her performance in the flashback with short haircut is superb. Prakash Raj has done the role of main villain who makes an entrance only in the second half. Jaya Prakash Reddy entertains as a don who is used by NTR. The sidekicks of JP (especially Raghu Babu and Karumanchi Raghu) are excellent. Payal Ghosh (heroine of Prayanam film) did heroine's friend and she is nice. Sayaji Shinde, Tanikella Bharani, Kick Shyam, Rehman etc have done other prominent roles.

Technical departments

oosaravelliStory - screenplay - direction: The basic story line is inspired by a Chinese film titled Vengeance (2009). It is a straight narration flick, the script writers have used non-linear format to script the screenplay of Oosaravelli. There are also a few shades of The Departed movie for an episode. Surender Reddy has always made sure that there is stylized content in his movies and this film is no exception. The content and presentation is suave and stylish. The screenplay is sophisticated. Direction is good in parts. However there are a couple of glitches in the basic arch of the story. The basic foundation point that comes in the flashback should have been more emphatic and forceful. When we have terrorist content as hero intro scene in the movie, we expect a heavy fight. But the director dealt it with novelty (see on the screen to know what I am referring to). The back and forth narration is used for the most of the time.

oosaravelliOther departments: Music by Devi Sri Prasad is an asset. The best song of the movie in my opinion is Sri Anjaneyam that comes in the flashback. There is lot of force and emotion in that song. Cinematography by Rasool Ellore is slick. Dialogues by Koratala Shiva are good. Fights composed by Ram - Laxman are good. S Ravinder's art director is apt. This movie is mounted on a big production scale.

oosaravelliAnalysis: First half of the film is nice with decent entertainment. The foundation of the story which comes in the second half should have been stronger. However, the Tamanna's story in the flashback episode is heartt-touching and emotional. The climax should have been crisp. The plus points of the movie are NTR and different screenplay. On the flipside, better care in terms of commercial elements would have done a world of good. On a whole, Oosaravelli is a different movie for NTR.

Oosaravelli - Is full of shades and shoddy:
IndiaGlitz [Wednesday, October 05, 2011]

It all begins well with a sidekick narrating the different traits of Tony to a thug who is in search of a heroic henchman in Mumbai. Tony, for one, is a gutsy bod with deadly eyes, a Napoleanic heart and a never-wracking viscera. For another, Tony is a remarkable lover who would go to any extent for the sake of a promise he made to his sweetheart. Who is Tony? He is a well-built youth with a penchant for eliminating everyone in sight. Like everybody else in this incongruent film, who kill ruthlessly. Oosaravelli begins on a high note, falters mid-way and descends into chaos later.

The film keeps switching locations before you can take notice. Cut to Kashmir, where Tony (NTR) is on a death row, along with a beautiful stranger, Niharika (Tamanna Bhatia). Apparently, some terrorists (and they behave as if they are executing actors in a drama play) are butchering ten innocents one after the other because some Indian Mujahideen leader was murdered by the army. Next in row are the two birds. The girl shares some tense moments but the guy remains unruffled, feigning a resignation from the rough and tumble of life. (Why so?) All of a sudden, the girl plants a life-giving kiss on his lips, which reignites a string of emotions in him. He saves himself and the girl in a jiffy and breaks into a song. (By the way, NTR seems to be grooving like Devi Sri Prasad in a stage performance in this song).

Cut to Dubai, where a ridiculous scene in the middle of an ocean involving two-three gangsters and a politician (Tanikella Bharani) leaves you gasping. Tony follows the girl in Hyderabad (don't lose the count of the places). The film takes the shade of a rom-com from this point. Niharika, unfortunately, loves one Rakesh, Tanikella's son. Nevertheless, Tony decides to make her fall in love with him while Raks flies to the US on a 15-day camp.

Before it is interval time, the NTR-Tamanna track gives you some moments to enjoy. These are few but they add to the fun factor. Just when you are thinking 'so far, so good,' a Tony-Rakesh showdown raises the curtain for routine fare. All that Tony had been looking for was an opportunity to eliminate a dreaded mafia leader (called Irrfan bhai), Rakesh and his wily father-politician, and scores of thugs.

Why is Tony after them? Who is next on his radar? How is his destiny intertwined to that of Niharika? The second half answers these questions in a predictable fashion.

The script has got some gaping flaws. The Rakesh-Niharika element doesn't seem imperative. Ridiculous violence and mindless killings, all seem quite pointless and out of context. Songs are extremely intrusive. (The vaudevillian Mongolia number after the flashback is an assault on our senses).

In the absence of intensity in the proceedings, even sentimental scenes seem superficial. At times, things border on the eccentric. At one point, the dreaded Prakash Raj looks on as if he is watching a romantic thriller while the girl takes her sweet time to administer an oath to the hero.

Performance-wise, NTR looks just about okay. Tamanna's performance is good but inconsistent. Prakash Raj as Azju bhai is wasted. (He looks to be fed up with donning the greasepaint for a low brow role and delivering a forced output here).

On the positive side, the oddball wit involving JP (Jaya Prakash as Jaya Prada), who is made into an accidental don through design by NTR, is enjoyable.

All in all, Oosaravelli is an opportunity wasted. It's a character-based story, but a shoddy screenplay leaves you asking for help

i was looking forward for this movie 😭
