Saumya Tandon was the third choice for Manish Goswami's Aisa Des Hai Mera, aired on Sony.
After Nauheed Cyrusi opted out at the last minute, Shaheen Khan (the girl from the Pepsi ad with Shah Rukh Khan) had been roped in and even shot with Goswami's unit in Chandigarh. But Shaheen, too, was out of the show.
When contacted, Shaheen was forthcoming. "There is no point in lying. Yes, I did Aisa Des Hai Mera for a couple of days. I finished my Chandi-garh schedule, where most of my scenes were with Ranjeet and Kanwaljeet," she says.
Honeymoon in Italy
Shaheen says she dropped out of the show because she got married. "I got married in the second half of April.
They wanted to shoot in London, at the same time." Soon after marriage, Shaheen left for her honeymoon in Italy. "My husband, Sajed Abdullah, will shuttle between India and the US for work. Soon, he will settle in India."
Was the marriage, a sudden decision? "No, it was planned. Actually, the London shoot was scheduled for an earlier date, but due to bad weather, it got postponed, and the delayed date clashed with the date of my wedding. So, I dropped out."
Was that the only reason? Wasn't Shaheen unhappy with the show, and weren't producers Siddhant Cinevision unhappy with her, either? "I am not looking back," says the actress. "I certainly don't regret doing ADHM. I have a contract with Sony."
Is she looking at films? "Why not? But I will not wear bikinis and do heavy-duty love scenes. I have been offered such stuff and turned it down," says Shaheen. "I would love to do films that are not heavy on skin show. Also, I am looking forward to doing some more television." |
