I RECENTLY READ A STORY CALLED " THE EYES ARE NOT HERE " BY RUSKIN BOND

I THOUGHT OF PENNING IT DOWN AS A MAANEET OS

PLS LET ME KNOW UR COMMENTS AND LIKES

P.S : THIS IS MY FIRST WORK

I HAVE NOT COME ACROSS ANY WORK WHICH IS SIMILAR TO THIS STORY

THOSE PAIR OF EYES

Part - 1

I don't know how the world looks now , I don't know how people look at me . I don't even know whether the people know that I don't have the one which they have . I the FORMER CAPTIAN MAAN SINGH KHURANA , has lost the mirrors of my soul . Yes , I'm BLIND now .

I was the Captian of INDIAN AIR FORCE . I realized my patriotism when I acted as a soldier in the school play . I decided that I must become a battalion in the INDIAN AIRFORCE . My dadi , my only shoulder left me forever when I was 18 . I was made a lonely tree and then I decided to fulfill my passion . I became the CAPTIAN of INDIAN AIRFORCE at the age of 22 . I was acknowledged as a brilliant and I young official in my clan . I was praised by some and even envied by some but I gave a damn to these . On a war with the neighbours I was shot and I later found that I became blind . Unfortunately , my eyes cannot be replaced and I was compelled to quit the AIRFORCE by the situation . I 'm now travelling on a vacation to relieve myself for somedays from the busy world .

I had the compartment for myself till Rohana until a girl got in . I heard the girl being instructed by a lady whom I assume to be her mom and the lady was accompanied by a man who looked like he has crossed his 50's .

LADY : Geet beta , take care of yourself . Don't pay heed to the strangers . Keep the luggages under the berth .

"GEET " I said to myself . Wow, that sounds so musical !!!!! I chuckled not too hard to reach others

THE MAN WHO ACOMPANIED THE LADY : Beta avoid talking to strangers especially guys , they are jobless people who try to flirt wit girls . avoid them okay ?????? and the most important thing is Don't peep your head out of the window unnecessarily.

I heard to the man's talk and told myself that he must be her father , the way he speaks about the guys shows that .

The couple said their good-byes and the train pulled out of the station .

As I am totally blind , my eyes are sensitive only to brightness and darkness .I m not able to tell how she looked like . By hearing the way her heels tapped against the floor I felt that she wore slippers . I liked the sound of her slippers .

I thought of starting a decent conversation with her and hence asked ,

Are you going all way to Dehra ?

I must have been sitting in a dark corner ,as I felt that she was startled by my voice.

She exclaimed , " I didn't know that there is someone near me "

I knew that people with good eyesight fail to notice things or people around them but people with poor or no vision like ME register all the happenings around them .

I replied " I didn't see u either , I heard you coming "

I wondered to myself whether I will be able to keep her not guessing that I was blind.

She told me , " Im getting down at Sarhanpur . I m gonna meet my aunt who resides there "

She asked me " Where are you going ?"

I replied " To Dehra and then to Mussoorie "

She replied " Wow that sounds cool . I love the hills at Mussoorie . Especially in the month of October "

" Yes , it's a beautiful place .At night you can make a bon-fire and sit near it enjoying beer or any drink " I said recalling my last visit to Mussoorie when I had a good eyesight .

She suddenly became silent

I wondered whether she felt that im a romantic pool after listening to my description about Mussoorie.

I cleared my throat to gain her attention answer that's when I did a big mistake

I asked her " What does it look like ? "

But it seemed like she did not find my question strange . I feared whether she found out that im blind .

Beautiful work...Maan Singh Khurana - Blind... Wow, I could not imagine him like that...until I read your OS..I love the works of Ruskin Bond...By the way why bother about being similar to other OS... Aren't there similar things on earth yet both beautiful in their own ways...Please do continue soon...It is as beautiful...As beautiful...As Maan's beautiful pair of eyes...

Part ' 2 ( LAST PART )

But her question relieved me from my fear

" Why don't you yourself look out of the window "

A tiny happiness leapt inside me as I heard her question . I moved along the bed and I felt for the window . Finally I touched the window. I faced the window and pretended like studying the landscape . I heard the moving sound of the train and I picturized telephone posts running in my mind .

I put on my next question " Have you noticed ? These trees look like they are moving and we feel like we are stationary .

She replied " It happens always . Do you see any animals in Dehradun ?"

I recollected my past times and gave back my answer , " There are hardly any animals in Dehradun "

I then turned from the window and sat facing her .

Silence prevailed in the atmosphere for a minute and I broke the silence

"You have an interesting face "

Well that was a safe move hopefully !

She laughed a pleasant laugh and told " Well its nice to hear to your remark . I'm tired of being told that I have a beautiful face" .

Oh! So she does has a beautiful face !!!!

And again I made a safe remark that " Well interesting faces can be pretty "

She spoke her thanks for my compliment and told " You seem to be a decent man yet a serious person .Why are u serious ?"

I thought of laughing at her comment but I felt that it may lead to any other verbal danger .

So I diverted her by changing the topic "I think we'll soon be at your station "

She replied " Thank god !!!!!!! It is a short journey !!!! I cant bear a train journey more than three hours "

But I was prepared to any longer train journey just listening to her talks . Her voice had a spark which I have noticed rarely in girls . But I know that it was impossible . I know that she might forget our brief encounter in this train and I prepared myself for a spending the rest of my journey alone .

The carriage wheels were about to come to a halt and she got up and collected her bags . I wondered whether she tied her hair into a bun or she plaited her hair or she left her hair loose ? I wondered whether she wore a saree or a salwar or jeans ?

I heard porters shouting and realized that she's gonna leave .

I heard her voice telling " Nice meeting you .. good bye "

She was standing so close to me that I can smell her perfume . I wanna touch her hair and feel them under my hands but I stopped myself . She moved away with her luggages but her aroma still lingered around me

I let out a sad sigh and sat back on my seat . Just then I heard a man walking toward the seat where she sat . I felt him arranging his things .

The train gathered speed and left the station . I faced the window and felt the brightness and stared at the daylight which was never meant for me '..

The man who sat opposite to me stated

"You must be disappointed "

I turned my head towards him and looked at him with a confused face

Looking at my confused face he added " I'm sorry as I'm not as attractive as the girl who sat near you before"

I replied " She's an interesting girl . Can you pls tell me whether she had long hair or short hair ? Did she wear a salwar or a western clothing ?"

He replied with a puzzled tone " I don't remember that . All I noticed was not her hair or clothing but her BEAUTIFUL EYES which were of no use to her as she is BLIND. Didn't you notice that ?"

I THOUGHT THAT YOU ARE UNLIKE ME

WHO CAN SEE THE BEAUTIFUL AND BRIGHT WORLD

BUT I WAS PROVEN WRONG

COZ U SEE THE SAME DARK WORLD WHICH I SEE

This is just an attempt to show that all relations do not end in love . The way maan felt for geet may not be defined as love .It was just a train journey of 2 hrs which left an impact on him '''.

It just encouraged maan to see the world with positivity and it made him feel that there are people who see not through their eyes but through their soul

I know there are many jutiis , chappal, tomatoes, eggs being thrown on me . I am sorry but this is not a story with a neither happy nor a sad ending. I know it's a kind of an incomplete story

If u feel that it must be given a proper ending then I m ready to do that

I'm just feeling too happy coz I just finished my first creation
